Been given a quote for two bedroom carpets for smallish bedrooms. £500! Is this unreasonably high or I am just out of date?

Carpet varies massively in cost and quality. Plus there's underlay and fitting. How long is a piece of string basically!

If it's just carpets then it's expensive. If it's carpets, underlay, grippers, bar and fitting then seems decent price. Obvs depends on the quality of the carpet.

Underlay can be bought online (eBay) a lot cheaper than in carpet places.

I've just paid for our carpets and underlay etc in 2 doubles and a single it was just under £900. We did get a few quotes but they were all about the same.

We just paid for one room 14ft by 12ft. It was about £700. but we picked a very nice carpet.

How big is the room? what sort of quality is the carpet?

£500 for carpet fitted in 2 rooms with underlay etc seems cheap end to me! The local self employed carpet guy round here advertises £400 per room for a room up to 3x4m, and he's way cheaper than local shops, so £500 for 2 rooms seems a bargain to me!

For carpeting two bedrooms it sounds OK, if a bit on the cheap side to me! That's only £250 per room.

What were you expecting to pay?

Cheap compared to my recent experience which was £900 for the playroom. We did get a more robust carpet but £500 for two rooms is at the low end.

How much did you think?

If it includes underlay and fitting etc. it sounds perfectly reasonable.

The price is meaningless without knowing the quality of the carpet. I think I paid £2-300 for a mid range? small double bedroom (about 3 m x 3 m) about 5+ years ago, so it's obviously in that ballpark.

And I do remember it was £900 from the same place for similar carpet for a large living room and the hall/stairs and landing but that was about 15 years ago and the carpet is still in decent condition considering how badly it's been treated.

But you could probably pay less for really cheap carpet that will wear, or probably massively more, because the sky's the limit with these sorts of things.

Where are you getting it from? A lot of the places that do 'free' fitting really inflate the cost of the underlay and grippers to make up for it.

I go to a local place that seems to be cheaper than the big names.

If that includes underlay and fitting, I'd have their hand off. If not, it's still pretty reasonable for a good quality carpet.

@BirdsandBeesmakinghay You're out of date sorry. Even a medium quality carpet will cost around £250 to £300 for an average sized bedroom.

My friend just paid £1300 to carpet a small 2-bed bungalow. One 15 X 14 ft lounge-diner, two 5 x 7 ft halls, and 2 bedrooms (both 12 x 10 foot.) Average quality carpet. Not awful but not fancy.

That sounds about right to me for a mid-range carpet.

It’s a local shop and includes underlay

We had a small study 200m x 300m done last year. It was £560 for carpet & underlay.
Fitting was extra.
It was nice quality though & was on sale.

Is there a carpet right near you? They have lots of cheaper, but still okay quality, options.

It's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question though. Depends on size of room (from boxroom to ballroom and quality of carpet (from pure wool to pure nylon).

We've just sourced 15' x 13' good quality carpet (remnant so we got it cheap), underlay and fitting for £240. That's for a small double bedroom, so your quote for £500 for two rooms doesn't sound outrageous if that includes underlay and fitting?

Sorry, just seen it's each. Hmm, for a mid range carpet that does sound at the upper end of pricing to me.

Like other say it varies hugely. We recently had a double bedroom recarpeted and it was £300. I know someone who had their master bedroom done for 35k! They do live in a 16 bedroom stately home however.
