I've used them. I like them. Takes up some space for sure, but AIBU?

I would have one, I regret not doing this when we had the bathroom done.

Thislittlefinger123 · 27/06/2021 23:16

Go for a Japanese toilet instead?

lookoutmama · 27/06/2021 23:17

It’s not essential, and I’d expect it’s fairly rare in UK. But go for it! Very practical if you have the space.

lookoutmama · 27/06/2021 23:19

…going to google Japanese toilet… hoping it’s not some porn thing…

Permanentlygrumpy · 27/06/2021 23:20

My friend got a middle Eastern style toilet with a small shower hose by the side of the loo. You just give yourself a quick hose down after using the loo, leaves you very clean & fresh. Very useful if you have grubby children who don't wipe themselves thoroughly.

ClarasZoo · 27/06/2021 23:22

Shattaf. Will be in my new bathroom as no room for bidet/children’s toilet😂

Tippytaps · 27/06/2021 23:22

This is the way! Separate bidets take up space and require you to manoeuvre from the toilet to the bidet.

Get a Japanese toilet, a hose with a trigger or a combination bidet-toilet.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 27/06/2021 23:23

I've always dreamed of having a bidet - it was the acme of sophistication when I was little.

RadioWASP · 27/06/2021 23:24

@lookoutmama, just did the same :) it’s a real thing, I was expecting it to be something like buka

That makes more sense with respect to space required. Might be more complex with plumbing and electrical stuff too?

Permanentlygrumpy · 27/06/2021 23:25

Middle Eastern toilet hose

RadioWASP · 27/06/2021 23:27

Japanese toilet is a thing! Can you get them easily in the UK though?

Wonder how strong the water jet is? Asking for a friend Grin

Seriously, seems like a good idea if you have the space.

These are cold water and 'refreshing' at best.

Some other people have referred to 'Japanese' toilets - which are actually Korean and are (almost) like an automatic car wash

nicecoffeecup · 27/06/2021 23:39

Haha, I'd tried the water pressure thing and it never worked for me Blush just re doing ensuite after some water leak damage, so a bit if money and thoughts to spare. Thanks for the Japanese tip, seems a bit complicated though. But will checkout

Water pressure worked for me a long time ago. But that OTT for a bidet. Have not seen one in the UK, so likely fairly new for tradesman? Something to check out if they've done that before. Good idea though.

MyDcAreMarvel · 27/06/2021 23:50

Surely everyone showers after they have a bowel movement anyway. Why would you need a hose on the toilet , only time I can see it would be useful is if you had a stomach bug.

Surely most people don't shower after having a poo? What if you you go more than once per day? What if you shower then have to go 10 minutes later? Do you shower again?
SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 27/06/2021 23:59

@MyDcAreMarvel You’re kidding, right?

We have a bidet. It was non-negotiable when redoing the en suite.

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/06/2021 00:03

No my family only have bowel movements once a day or less and pretty much first thing. Unless a baby or a health condition/randomly unwell that’s normal. I can see one would be useful if you had say IBS.

floppybit · 28/06/2021 00:16

@MyDcAreMarvel what if you have a shit in the afternoon or whenever and are supposed to be working, you can't just drop everything to have a shower?!

babychange · 28/06/2021 00:18

We have a Japanese toilet and we love it. Was a bit sceptical at first but now it feels disgusting when we poo somewhere else and not have a nice water jet clearning our arse Grin

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/06/2021 00:35

@floppybit Well dh and I could I suppose as both wfh, but as I said it’s a morning routine. You can train your body to “go” at a certain time of day.

Maggiesfarm · 28/06/2021 02:05

Lovely. I think all bathrooms should have one.

Wish we had got one - or a japanese toilet or a hose. Bathrooms just gone in though so it'll be years before we get anything changed!
