I've used them. I like them. Takes up some space for sure, but AIBU?

When we built our house it was a priority to me to have a bidet in every bathroom. Like someone else said, I always feel manky when I can have a quick wash after using the toilet Grin

@MyDcAreMarvel we inherited our bidet.

I love it. It means I can freshen up easily in the day.
Especially when the weather is hot.

DulseSeaweed · 28/06/2021 07:19

Love a bidet. Both my parents and in laws have them so I didn't realise they were rare. We will be getting a Japanese toilet put in our ensuite as otherwise we can't fit in a separate bath (and I really want my own bath) and shower. Go for it!

DulseSeaweed · 28/06/2021 07:21

@MyDcAreMarvel pooing more than once a day is perfectly healthy especially if you eat loads of fruit and veg!

DulseSeaweed · 28/06/2021 07:21

@babychange which Japanese toilet do you have? Was the plumber pretty unfazed by it?

Overdueanamechange · 28/06/2021 07:28

I always fancied a bidet - mil has one and everyone uses it as a foot washer 🤣. Laughing at the idea of suuuuuurley everyone showers after a bowel movement - not you are vegetarian you don't!

You usually need an electrician as well. I got one priced for a wet room style bathroom I wanted. It put £1000 on top of the price, but now I've seen them, I want one.
@floppybit Well dh and I could I suppose as both wfh, but as I said it’s a morning routine. You can train your body to “go” at a certain time of day.
Haha this just wins the internet 🤣

We had bidets in our family bathroom & en-suite, we choose not to replace them when we had the bathrooms changed, as we never used them. But if you like a bidet, go for it.

Maunderingdrunkenly · 28/06/2021 07:45

I had one on hols in turkey where the water jet was just in the back of the toilet pan

Cheaper than Japanese and doesn’t require an electrician

Would recommend and will be buying one for my bathroom!

@DulseSeaweed we got it as part of a bathroom remodel so they weren't too phased by it
The builder tried to get me to buy a European brand of a Japanese toilet but I figured the Japanese probably know what they're doing so I insisted on a Toto Grin

It's brilliant, has heated seats, and sprays a nice jet up your bum and you don't have to use as much toilet roll, maybe a little to dry your bottom.

During the big Covid loo roll shortage, dh and I felt rather smug for having a nice toilet that washes our bottom!

Now whenever I go away, I really really miss my toilet Blush

I'm trying to convey DH we should have a Japanese toilet ...he doesn't realise that a heated seat and bidet would be AMAZING

dudsville · 28/06/2021 21:27

We had shower hoses installed when we did ours. The water is temperature controlled and the force of the water can be gentle and adjusted up to deep clean mode. It's also handy for cleaning the toilet.

I used to often struggle with itch, since using this and less loo roll the itch has gone away completely. I also bought a lot of wash cloths, all of the same colour so they don't get mixed in with the usual flannels, and pat dry and it goes straight in a special bin for washing.

I will say though, the Japanese toilet is nice but expensive, these are cheap BUT YOU DO HAVE TO work out your position so that you don't jet the water up and out. That's just technique, easy to learn! Enjoy being proper clean!!!
