To not buy Scentsy?

LongDuckDong · 27/06/2021 17:53

A friend of mine has quite a few scentsy wax burners that light up and look very warm and snuggly. So this weekend I was able to borrow so items from a local consultant and try them out. I really like them but I am bowled over by how much the burners (the ones I like) cost along with the cost of the wax melts.

I have searched the web and there are other less expensive options out there so I am wondering if I went for a cheaper version am I selling myself short, is it that in this case spending more is actually the better choice?

Scentsy, as far as I'm aware, is an MLM. I couldn't buy from them for that reason. Don't know anything about the product unfortunately.

PurpleyBlue · 27/06/2021 17:58

If you've searched the web then maybe search for more info about Scentsy. It's an MLM. Up to you if you avoid them or not.

Lockheart · 27/06/2021 17:59

You're obviously not unreasonable not to buy something.

Trudij123 · 27/06/2021 18:00

Scentsy is indeed an MLM - nice products, they do last a long time but yes - bloody expensive to buy the burners. They do come up second hand though, so it’s worth keeping an eye out if there’s one in particular you like :)

JellyTumble · 27/06/2021 18:00

Scentsy is a scam - it’s an MLM.

So no, you shouldn’t be buying anything from them.

IARTNS · 27/06/2021 18:00

Plenty of similar options available from places like Etsy Smile

Soubriquet · 27/06/2021 18:02

I’ve seen several scentsy buyers on fb and I wouldn’t dream of buying a thing

I refuse to buy from any MLM.

I did see them selling a Stitch wax burner that looked really nice but then I saw it was £60 and I was Shock not that nice

iduno · 27/06/2021 18:08

I've got my own burner (from Amazon) for about £25 that's basically same as the nice light up ones they sell.

I've had the scentsy wax melts and they are really nice and smell so strong they do last lots of times but they are expensive.

I wouldn't buy the burner but I'd maybe buy some melts if I was feeling guilty for testing it and not buying.

oohmyback · 27/06/2021 18:08

My sil sells scentsy, I have bought exactly nothing from her although I did accept a freebie to use as a prize for a raffle. Bit rude I know lol. It's not her first mlm and won't be her last. She does also sell books and I have bought some because they're great deals.

MrsToothyBitch · 27/06/2021 18:35

YANBU, they're an mlm and very expensive. You can find nice alternatives at prices you like if you look.

The anti-mlm page MLM Truth has a cautionary tale from an ex-Scentsy bot - (it's called Tiff's Scentsy Shenanigans, I think) and it's quite the read. Put me off having anything to do with them.

forfucksakenett · 27/06/2021 20:29

How is it a scam?

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 27/06/2021 20:32

They're a MLM so I'd never support them

Seesawmummadaw · 27/06/2021 20:35

I’ve not heard of them. Is it just wax melts?

aurea · 27/06/2021 20:37

I would avoid these for health reasons in any case.

I buy my cosmetics from an MLM company. I have always struggled to understand what harm I am doing when people say they refuse to buy from one,

They have invested a lot of money into their own company yes, but they try to recover their costs by recruiting people to their company which has what carries on the scam

The products are usually not as good quality as they could be for the price they charge, and people feel pressured to buy more from them because they are friends/family which means you spend more than you want

monkeysox · 27/06/2021 20:47

Yanbu. They're a fortune

BobMortimersPetOwl · 27/06/2021 20:57

The wax melts are OK, but are about 4 times as expensive as an equivalent from a small seller, and aren't any better.

The burners are fairly poor quality.

ForestYeti · 27/06/2021 21:07

I have a few scentsy warmers, a couple bought from a friend who does it but others from eBay as the prices of them new are ridiculous, I do find their waxes are superior to other shop bought or handmade ones though

JellyTumble · 27/06/2021 21:07

The harm you are doing is allowing the people you’re buying from to sink further into debt.

You are not helping them, you’re hindering them.

This really funny because I have woken up today feeling very ill, no reason why etc and now that I have read that article it makes sense. Thanks.

I dont think they wax melts actually smell of much. I prefer a tealught burner, £2.50 in Asda!

ChargingBuck · 27/06/2021 21:16

No.
The Scentsy product are more expensive because MLM's apply a huge mark up, not because they are better quality.

Chickychoccyegg · 27/06/2021 21:17

The small plug in ones are £24, I have a couple of those, and they're lovely, I dont buy their wax melts though, think their about £7 a bar which is expensive.

Aprilx · 27/06/2021 21:20

@Jellytumble

But I am not trying to help anyone, I am buying some products. I go online and order myself when I need some, I am aware that my purchases are “linked” to an agent or whatever term they use, but this was a person I met once in a commercial capacity about seven years ago. I have continued to order because I like the product, I know nothing about the individuals debts, whether or if they have any and I have never been approached to sell anything myself. Hence why I didn’t understand or perhaps my experience is abnormal.
