To cancel the milk as delivery is too early?

I have had a milk delivery for about 13 years.fine for years. Since covid we have had 3 new milkmen. The latest one has taken to delivering the milk at 12.30pm. Our bedroom is at the front.,He doesn't appear to have an electric float, so he's noisy and I hear him crunching up the drive and get woken up, then have to get up because I can't bear the milk being out all night. I have been trying to reduce single use plastic and also reducing dairy as they now do oatmilk in reuseable bottles.

But I have trouble sleeping anyway as perimenopausal. Would you complain? shall I cancel (no other milk deliveries where I live). I am cream crackered.
would I be unreasonable to cancel?

Do you mean 12.30 am? 12.30 pm is in the middle of the day.

Sargass0 · 26/06/2021 08:09

You can cancel for any reason at all.

Overthebow · 26/06/2021 08:10

Are you a vampire Grin

yomellamoHelly · 26/06/2021 08:10

This was why I stopped our milk deliveries. Was fed up of the milk being out all night and relatively warm in the morning (like my milk cold) and in the summer it would go bad quite quickly - south facing front door. Don't think complaining will change when you receive it tbh.

DinosaurDiana · 26/06/2021 08:10

I’d cancel and get your milk from the shop

StayCalmX · 26/06/2021 08:10

Milk lasts 5 days so its not that hard to get to a shop once every 5 days. Id cancel it!

SoddingWeddings · 26/06/2021 08:11

I certainly wouldn't complain. Cancel if the service doesn't work for you, but they can't change an entire milk round to suit one customer.

Ours arrives anytime between 11pm and 3am, but I also have have a chill container at the door for it.

TacoSunday · 26/06/2021 08:11

This would annoy me too. I don’t think you’re unreasonable and it would probably help them if you told them why you’re cancelling.

Overthebow · 26/06/2021 08:11

Seriously though, midnight doesn’t sound great, like you say wakes everyone up and the milk would be left out all night.

milkandnomore · 26/06/2021 08:12

@BritWifeInUSA. sorry of course I mean 12.30 am! so tired.

You can cancel for whatever reason you want but I wouldn’t complain.

JaninaDuszejko · 26/06/2021 08:15

We have deliveries around this time. I'm up at 5am so I'd rather that than not have milk at breakfast time (which I've had previously with milk deliveries at 6-7am). It's rarely warm enough at night for it to go off in that time.

Pottedpalm · 26/06/2021 08:15

This is why we stopped having milk delivered; it would arrive about 2am and be warm by the time we brought it in. It took a while to get used to as the nearest shop was a mile away, but we adjusted. Can only presume milkman liked to work very late mights and then sleep rather than getting up early.

NewPapaGuinea · 26/06/2021 08:15

Ask if they can deliver later and cancel if not.

ASpoonfulofDust · 26/06/2021 08:15

Leave a cooler by the door for him to put it into? Or request a later slot?

milkandnomore · 26/06/2021 08:15

@SoddingWeddings. true but I know others in the village are annoyed as I have seen some fb posts

I just really want to reduce plastic. ,but at the expense of my sleep.I don't know

TwoLeftElbows · 26/06/2021 08:17

Yes just cancel. Ours used to come at 2am and a few times in the summer it was on the turn by 8am.

worktrip · 26/06/2021 08:25

It's the reason I don't have milk deliveries. The milkman comes around at 4 am and my bedroom is front facing and I always have the window open. Also no electric float so it's so noisy.

Backhills · 26/06/2021 08:26

Ours comes about 2am, I used to hear him but I don't anymore, I think you just get used to it. I have a little cooler box (bought from the milkman) and it's still cold when I bring it in, despite an East facing front door.

I cancelled the old milkman because he sometimes came after we'd gone to work so the milk was out all day.

Cancel if it doesn't suit you, but they can't deliver everyone's milk at exactly the perfect time. Personally I'm hanging on to my milkman for dear life, a godsend during Covid and if you're housebound, or even just busy, especially as I can include most basic weekly shop items if needed. I'd hate to see them disappear.

TheoMeo · 26/06/2021 08:27

Could you leave a cool box out - maybe at the bottom of the drive?

DinosaurDiana · 26/06/2021 08:27

There was something on the TV this week that supermarkets are bringing back glass bottles, but they didn’t say about returns. I’m not sure if you put them in recycling or not.

KihoBebiluPute · 26/06/2021 08:32

Yanbu to cancel.

There are other ways to get non-plastic-container milk. I have 3 shops near me that will dispense milk into customers own containers.

I agree the milk delivery person preferred to work a late evening and then sleep in the morning is the issue, and if that doesn't work for you then you are under no obligation to subscribe to a service that doesn't do what you want.

Ughmaybenot · 26/06/2021 08:36

The cool box at the end of the drive is a good idea, depending on area/how likely it is to still be there in the morning Grin but have you also looked into whether there’s a milk ‘vending machine’ set up anywhere near you? Glass bottles, local produce/v v low food miles and supporting local farmers directly. It’s a win win Smile some are located on the farms themselves but I know a few farm shops and country-type stores around here have them too.

milkandnomore · 26/06/2021 08:46

@Backhills....I agree I would hate to see the milkman disappear.
yes of course there is no perfect time for the delivery. .also I have looked into refills in my area and currently cannot find one near.
I am going to buy a cooler and see if we can leave somewhere in front garden as drive slops as per suggestions!

That time is ridiculous
I would cancel
