To cancel the milk as delivery is too early?

I have had a milk delivery for about 13 years.fine for years. Since covid we have had 3 new milkmen. The latest one has taken to delivering the milk at 12.30pm. Our bedroom is at the front.,He doesn't appear to have an electric float, so he's noisy and I hear him crunching up the drive and get woken up, then have to get up because I can't bear the milk being out all night. I have been trying to reduce single use plastic and also reducing dairy as they now do oatmilk in reuseable bottles.

But I have trouble sleeping anyway as perimenopausal. Would you complain? shall I cancel (no other milk deliveries where I live). I am cream crackered.
would I be unreasonable to cancel?

Wouldn’t it still wake you at 5am or whatever though?

If you're going for oat milk anyway, don't bother with the milkman. Oat milk that doesn't need chilling before opening is indistinguishable so you can put 6 cartons at the back of a cupboard, and I think tetrapacks recycle well.

I cancelled mine for exactly the same reason. It did wake me more than the later deliveries as I probably wasn’t in a deep sleep. There were times I just had gone to bed and they would turn up so I’d end up getting out of bed to get it!
It was also pre-children and I remember getting up late and the milk was completely off from sitting in the sun (we don’t have somewhere for a box, we asked them to put it behind the bins in the shade and they said they wouldn’t remember).

They were really angry when I cancelled (I think they were starting the business on the side of other work but it was a total waste of money for me).

We had a milkman during the first lockdown who used to come around 4 and set the dog off, waking us all up.
As soon as it was easier to get to the shops we stopped it. I actually would have preferred 12.30 am

I tried a milkman. They came at 11.30pm. I was in bed dozing off but the noise woke me. It was a very hot evening, so definitely wouldn't of wanted it out all night. I cancelled based on that reason.

I cancelled mine because he came too late in the morning so the milk was potentially left outside for hours if I had gone out - which was fine in winter but not in summer.
I know what you mean about the sound on gravel though. MIL has a newspaper delivered at 5.30 am. They come by car, crunch on the gravel drive and let the gate slam right outside the bedroom where we sleep. Thank goodness we only stay there twice a year.
If an arrangement doesn't suit your circumstances then of course you can cancel it.

We had to cancel ours as it often wasn’t turning up until gone 8.30, by which point we usually didn’t need it and were often out. Then it would sit in our South facing porch all day 🤢 Sometimes it didn’t even turn up!

Golden2021 · 26/06/2021 09:11

Please cancel. Especially if you are our neighbours. So fucking loud in the middle of the night. It's just milk. Sounded like the recycling being emptied at the back of a nightclub. So inconsiderate.

nembrotha · 26/06/2021 09:11

If its annoying you its probably annoying your neighbours too. So please cancel.

My neighbours delivery used to wake me up every time, was about 4am.

AddisonMontgomeryShepherd · 26/06/2021 09:15

I cancelled mines recently because they were waking me up, and the dog who in turn woke the whole house up!

They were really nice when I phoned and asked if there was anything they could do before I cancelled so if you called they might give you the option of a later delivery.

We live in the country so not sure how common these are but milk vending machine type things are popping up all over the place here and you can take your reusable glass bottles. Something like that might be an option if you are concerned about the plastic.

If everyone does this there will be mo milkman next time you need him

I’d pop a cool box or bag at the end of the drive and ask that they deliver there from now on. We cancelled our milkman as he wouldn’t turn up for days then deliver almost a weeks worth of milk. It went bad by the time we used it up. He used to be very reliable, if he had stayed that way we’d of kept him.

Golden2021 · 26/06/2021 09:37

We have a milk vending machine locally. It's 24/7. No need for noisy deliveries.
