To get rid of my facial hair?

Cherrychocchip · 24/06/2021 19:56

I'm in my 40's and have noticed more and more how many soft blonde hairs I have on my face. If I feel it it's dead furry Blush
Doesn't look atrocious to look at me (imo) but if I look closely in the mirror it's a shock!
So to be natural and ignore it or get rid?

This fine blonde hair is really hard to get rid of, and it’s hardly worth it - honestly, nobody cares or notices. Anything you do to take it off at the surface will leave it with blunt ends and that will mean stubble as it grows back - with sharp ends you’ll be able to feel. Lumea or laser won’t kill off blonde hairs.

Love your downy face. It’s soft and nobody will be upset by it.

Cherrychocchip · 24/06/2021 22:02

Oh god yes good point! Definitely don't want to feel stubble. Keep seeing that JML thing advertised and thought is this the norm?!

I use the jml thing and the hair grows back soft. I have to do it a couple of times a week, but I feel better with it gone. If you don't mind yours, don't bother

@Cherrychocchip

Get eflornithine/ eflora cream from Gp.

Problem solved

Sarahlou63 · 24/06/2021 22:08

It's nonsense that hair grows back with "blunt ends" and becomes stubble. I've been (gently) removing my soft facial hair with a dry razor every couple of weeks for years and I've never had a five o'clock shadow!

Stichintime · 24/06/2021 22:10

I'm just about to have mine waxed off for first time. Had treading recently but it didn't catch the tiny ones on chin.

LunaNorth · 24/06/2021 22:10

You’ve got peach fuzz like Marilyn Monroe and me.

I read a photographer saying it was why she photographed so well - it was as if she was carrying around her own soft focus lens.

Embrace it!

ButItRingsAndIRise · 24/06/2021 22:15

I’ve contemplated waxing mine, especially when DSis was sat in front of a sunny window a couple of years ago and at a certain angle she looked like she had a full on beard!
However, I have to wax my dark upper lip weekly and I just can’t bear to add extra pain so, stuff it, I say.

idontlikealdi · 24/06/2021 22:18

You can 'dermaplane' or just shave it.

PurpleyBlue · 24/06/2021 22:20

Have you looked into threading? It's great before events etc, make up goes on so much better

Duskydai · 24/06/2021 22:29

I’m Asian with very dark black hair and have been removing hair from my face since I was 13 either by waxing in the early years and more recently dermaplaning with those little facial razors. Not once has the hair grown back thicker or darker so that’s complete rubbish. Top tip - rub a little facial oil on your skin before dermaplaning, makes it come off so much smoother than doing it dry!

SamanthaJayne4 · 24/06/2021 23:00

I have dark hair and shave the sides of my face about once a week. Post menopause I have started to get facial hair where men get a beard on the side of the cheeks. I sometimes use one of those lipstick shape hair removers. It is the same as shaving. I don't get a five o'clock shadow. I pluck eyebrows and upper lip hair. It's a constant war on unwanted hair!

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/06/2021 23:02

I get rid of mine.

I dermaplane my face, can't recommend it enough.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 25/06/2021 00:07

I dermaplane with the jml tool. Absolute bollocks that it grows back with blunt ends or darker or whatever.

I believe their are cheaper tools off amazon or whatever, but the jml has an led light on it so you can see everything.

I usually allow my peach fuzz to grow back unless I'm going somewhere.

Skin feels so lovely and make up goes on really nicely after a sesh with the jml haha.

Fab tip!! Thank you. I will do this next time!

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 25/06/2021 00:11

I definitely didn’t say it came back darker or thicker - just that by cutting it off the ends will be blunt and thus feelable.

I have a lot of experience in this area!

Bunnybaubles · 25/06/2021 00:16

@MrsTulipTattsyrup maybe you're doing it wrong 🤷‍♀️

Just started dermaplaning with the JML tool. No blunt regrowth Confused

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/06/2021 01:35

Ooh, I've never heard of it, can someone link me please.

Xanadu7 · 25/06/2021 05:15

I wish I had soft blonde again! Early 30s I got hirsutism and have thick black beard now…nothing can be done on nhs (they checked hormone levels that’s all) as it’s “cosmetic” yet I bet if men suddenly grew boobs something would be done!! I cannot afford the cost of lumea and live nowhere near a laser surgery (which I can’t afford anyway). It’s affected me hugely, I’ve become a recluse and piled on weight as I feel so ugly and so humiliated.

I can’t imagine asking for epilatory assistance from the GP. Are they receptive to those requests?

Oh @Xanadu7 that’s rough.

Sorry, I hadn’t seen your post. You should definitely get NHS help. That’s harsh of them.

Mistyplanet · 25/06/2021 06:24

@Xanadu7 something will be able to be done. Even something like Yasmin the contraceptive pill can help. I have pcos and have thick black hair around the chin area. I just shave it every morning as a man would do. Can't you do this ? I spent years plucking and fiddling round with waxing etc but there was too much hair in the end. The shaving works much better. Go back to your GP though explain how its effecting your life. There will be something you can do x

ufucoffee · 25/06/2021 07:06

I shave my face once every few weeks to get rid of it using a Gillette Mach 3 razor. Never any stubble. Easy, effective and cheap
