Do you think my husbands toe needs checking out?

I'll attach the photo below this post just in case anyone doesn't want to see!

My husband had an ingrown toenail, he kept trying to sort it out himself, I told him to cut a V in the middle with nail clippers etc, he didn't listen. This has been going on about 5 months anyway, picture below. It's hot to touch and painful.

I'll just add that he does keep his feet clean, always washes them in shower twice a day, clean socks etc...

That's infected

Theboywiththearabstrap · 23/06/2021 20:57

That’s infected. He should get it seen by a podiatrist asap

Paddybare · 23/06/2021 20:57

Get him to a doctor to get it sorted. I had mine done under local anaesthetic and it was all over in about 5 minutes.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 23/06/2021 20:57

He needs antibiotics (I'm a practice nurse).

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 23/06/2021 20:57

Omg yes!
I sounds/ looks infected.
Def needs medical attention

BashfulClam · 23/06/2021 20:58

Yeah that’s infected. Go to a podiatrist, I went to the gp and they really hurt me the podiatrist sorted it out easily and said he does it several times a day but the gp does it once every so often.

Longdistance · 23/06/2021 20:58

Yes, he has an ingrown toenail. It needs to be seen to. Especially as it’s red and looks infected.
I had one sorted and it worked a treat.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 23/06/2021 20:58

And a podiatrist.

helterskelter3 · 23/06/2021 20:58

This is infected and needs sorting quickly. I would be after an urgent GP appointment for that first thing tomorrow morning!

switswoo81 · 23/06/2021 20:58

Ouch definitely needs to be looked at. Is there any yellow gunk coming out.I have had many nails removed due to ingrown toenails but the only thing that worked was surgery to remove a wedge of the side of each toe. I just couldn't get rid of them .

BashfulClam · 23/06/2021 20:59

@Paddybare

Get him to a doctor to get it sorted. I had mine done under local anaesthetic and it was all over in about 5 minutes.
I had local at the gp but none at the podiatrist as he is a bit more skilled at sorting it. They also train the nail to grow in correctly.
DonLewis · 23/06/2021 20:59

Fuck me, that looks sore.

It's obviously infected. A very warm, salty foot bath for now, but that needs a doctor.

Poor chap.

PurpleyBlue · 23/06/2021 21:01

It will feel so much better after the surgery.

Landslidelife · 23/06/2021 21:03

As a nurse I'd say definitely need to see a medical practitioner. Draw a line around where the redness finishes so you can keep an eye on if the infection is tracking.

Clymene · 23/06/2021 21:04

Antibiotics and podiatrist. Will cost about £200 to have the bit of the nail that's sticking into his foot removed.

edie89 · 23/06/2021 21:21

Thanks everyone.

He's probably gone to the doctors twice in his whole life so looks like I'll be booking him an appt tomorrow!

He's currently rubbing savlon into it 😐 what are some men like!

Turtles4543 · 23/06/2021 21:25

That looks so painful. Maybe try the salt water in a bowl of not too hot water, but yes I’m sure something stronger is needed!

thedarkling · 23/06/2021 21:28

Ow!! Get it on sporner corner ASAP.

Clymene · 23/06/2021 21:32

Bear in mind that he NHS won't sort it out for months. You'll have to go private

EishetChayil · 23/06/2021 21:44

Cripes. I'm no doctor but I can tell that it's infected.

Jengnr · 23/06/2021 21:49

Yeah that needs sorting. Get a marker and draw round the redness.

ivykaty44 · 23/06/2021 21:56

He’s been cutting his nails to short or has torn the nail as he was cutting it.

It’s better to cut longer, straight across and the file with board to get shorter

Hope he gets it sorted

It’ll need packing when infection xleared

Faffertea · 23/06/2021 22:40

Yep needs antibiotics. Bathing in salty water and leaving socks/shoes off at home will help but ultimately will need at least part of nail off. I do these as a minor surgery procedure but not all practices have someone who does.

I don't think it look too bad I was expecting worse. Personally I'd get it seen to though it looks painful. My dh always has ingrown toenails, went to gp once to get a bit cut out and it was agony so he does his own "surgery" on them if required 😂 he's not had any infections for years now. I maybe think it doesn't look too bad as I know how bad dh toenail got!
