Do you still have it? My friend looked at me in disgust when I said I removed the app.

I have it - makes it easier to enter pubs and restaurants etc. Have heard it is possible to switch off the track and trace function

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 18/06/2021 22:41

It's Test and Trace!! Track and Trace is a royal mail parcel tracking service!

XenoBitch · 18/06/2021 22:42

Never had it to start with.

This is one of my major pet hates too! TEST and TRACE ffs! I don't have the app, never have and never will. You check in somewhere and it doesn't check you out until midnight so you could 'ping' from someone who was there hours after you left.
Rainydayss · 18/06/2021 22:46

Test and trace! Oops, I'm oblivious.
Just wondered if if was in the minority of not having it.
My friend is obsessed with all things covid so the conversation wears thin

The trick or treat function will send an alert if you enter a pub at lunchtime then go home and someone covid positive goes there in the evening or that you are on the other side of a window to someone who is positive. The design is clumsy

DeathByWalkies · 18/06/2021 22:50

Never had it - couldn't afford to self isolate if it told me to, thus rendering the whole thing totally pointless, plus I live in a flat and there's been cases of people being told to isolate because their neighbour had Covid and Bluetooth transmits through solid walls

VeniVidiWeeWee · 18/06/2021 22:51

If every supermarket worker had this app I suspect all supermarkets would have been closed within 2 weeks.

BarefootHippieChick · 18/06/2021 22:55

I have it but I keep the contact tracing permanently switched off

KurtWilde · 18/06/2021 22:56

Never had it.

PurpleyBlue · 18/06/2021 22:56

I used it today for the first time in months to check in somewhere but only becusse they asked me to

goddessofmischief · 18/06/2021 22:59

I have the NHS app but only have my Bluetooth turned on when using my headphones.

TentTalk · 18/06/2021 22:59

I've never had it. I work in a hospital so would have to have it turned off at work anyway and I don't see the point elsewhere, If I go to a cafe etc I just fill in the slip.

LoopTheLoops · 18/06/2021 23:08

Never had it

Supermarkets should have been treated same as NHS but they’ve not been The app would go off when it was in someone’s locker then the. The full shift would have to isolate This DID happen and supermarkets were really short staffed and it was never really talked about
Hemsbyboc · 18/06/2021 23:13

Never had it, never been asked to have it or sign in anywhere. I'm never out of pubs and bars tbh. Can't see why I'd need it

If you just used the app to check in, but had contact tracing switched off, it will alert you that you might have been in contact with a positive case, but it won't tell you to self isolate.

Info on the different between contact tracing and venue check in are here:

You have to turn off the contact tracing part of the app when at work, but you can continue to use the check in part of it for restaurants/cafes etc

If you want to avoid being told to self isolate due to a neighbour testing positive, just turn off the contact tracing part of the app when at home. If you want to avoid it ever telling to to self isolate just turn off the contact tracing all the time.
BackforGood · 18/06/2021 23:17

Once I found out that anyone working in an environment where they were likely to come into contact with lots of people (hospitals, Universities, Nurseries, supermarkets, schools, etc) had been told very early on to switch it off at work, it became pretty pointless.

Frazzled2207 · 18/06/2021 23:18

I switched off the contact tracing function but you need the app to actually check in to places

RichardMarxisinnocent · 18/06/2021 23:19

If by ping you mean tell you to self isolate, it won't do that as a result of a venue check in, so you won't be told to self isolate because of someone being at a venue hours after you.

It's the contact tracing part of the app which can detect close contact with someone else's phone. and if that person then tells the app they tested positive you may be told to self isolate if you were in close enough contact for long enough.

Looks like the link didn't work

Not the experience of a very significant number of people I know or work with over the last year.
roarfeckingroarr · 18/06/2021 23:42

I have it for easy entry but I have turned off the trace part
