To feel a bit annoyed about dp new YouTube obsession?

For context I've been a fan of ASMR for about a year. I've tried to get dp to listen/watch but he just wouldn't give it a chance. Said it was stupid and annoying.

Anyway, last week a recommendation came up on his YouTube. The thumbnail was of a young, pretty woman with a revealing top on. Dp joked and said ' oh maybe I will watch ASMR vids now' .

He watched it and said he actually really enjoyed it. Found it very relaxing.

Now he watches it all the time. He's subscribed to 4 ASMR channels all young, pretty women who look similar.

He joked that one of them looked like me when I was younger Thanks for that!

He still won't listen to my favorite ones even though the sounds are better than on his videos.

Would this annoy you or am I being stupid to feel annoyed?

It sounds like you did more than mention it once or twice. Now he likes it and you're still annoyed because you don't like those channels, is he only allowed to like the same channels you do?

Four channels isn't that many, I'm subscribed to way more than that in certain subjects.

You'll probably get replies now that he's out of order because it's a pretty woman.

Totally natural to bristle a bit at the 'she looks like you when you were younger' comment. I like some ASMR (the really lo-fi sort) but a lot of the 'performers' are all about being breathy and sexy. Wouldn't be thrilled to see my partner glued to them every evening.

What on earth is ASMR?! I think people in general spend too much time on Youtube..

I feel more sorry for him tbh because it sounds pretty damn suffocating if he's only allowed to like the exact same things you do.

People are allowed to like different things. It's odd that you kept insisting he should try something he said no to. Yes asking him to try something you think he might like is one thing but it sounds like you kept trying. It's also odd that you're now trying to insist that your preferences are better and trying to make him watch them.

I can not stand the fluttering of hands, rattling of marbles in a bowl, breathy whisper throat clicking thing, eating noises and rubbing things on sandpaper and tapping nails on every fucking surface. And role play whispering is so cringe to me but I wouldn't be angry or annoyed if my husband liked it. Once I learnt that isn't what all ASMR is at all I actually found out I do like some but not the staged intentional click bait stuff. I like a soft male voice talking about random shit, or the sounds of a handmade leather wallet being made, accidental asmr is my fave channel.

Subbing to four people isn't really a lot either. Like any hobby, if one person starts opting out of family life or not pulling their weight around the home then it's an issue but that's not what you're complaining about, you're complaining he's watching attractive women and listen to your favourite youtubers instead. If he has a habit of making sexual comments about women or is sleazy in general then I can understand why you'd feel insecure, could his comment about one looking like you come from him feeling like he has to reassure you because he knows you're pissed off?

Unless you've missed a lot of info about him being untrustworthy then I kind of think YABU

People react differently to ASMR but his comment about them looking like you was dickish

He doesn't have to. Nothing worse than people insisting that you'll enjoy something that you have no interest in.

The only ASMR videos I like are those ones which aren't designed as ASMR at all. My faves are ones where there's a guy cleaning a watercooler, another where there's a woman cleaning library computers. I clearly find watching people cleaning to be highly relaxing.

Most actual ASMR makes me want to remove my own ears though. Whispery sounds and long tapping nails make me all misophonia-y.

I just went and had a look at a couple of asmr videos and they just put my teeth on edge (misses point, sorry OP!)

develop an obsession with yt channels featuring hot fit young men, joke that one of them looks like the younger him, and go on about how much you enjoy watching them.

How do you get to that conclusion? OP wasn't exactly shy about trying to get him to do what she wanted before.

There are a couple of male ASMRtists that I enjoy watching. Dp will seem enthusiastic to watch it when I say how good it is, but as soon as I mention it's a man, he doesn't want to know.
