A cat is coming into my home and urinating

I am so upset that a cat is coming into my house that I don't know and urinating.

I've noticed a random cat keeps being in my garden all the time and I noticed when getting home I keep smelling cat urine.

At first I thought it was my own cat urinating around the house but tonight whilst out I saw on my cameras it a cat walking around my house I don't know!!!

So now it makes sense - a random cat is coming into my home and urinating.

I'm so upset I could cry. Has this happened to anyone? I don't want to get rid of a flap as I hate litter trays but this is too much for me and now put me on a real downer.

I'm so upset.

Get a microchip catflap and chip your cat so only your cat can come in the flap

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 15/06/2021 23:27

Yep, microchip flap will sort this.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/06/2021 23:28

Microchip cat flap and get some enzyme spray ,Wilkos do a great one for a couple of quid and it'll get rid of the smell.

Namechangeme1 · 15/06/2021 23:33

I ca no believe this it's been in my bedroom and urinated. I'm honestly really cut up about this it's mad me so sad. I don't understand why it's upset me this badly.

Yep microchip cat flap.

Sounds like the random cat is trying dominate your house and mark it as his territory over your cat.

Also if you can’t get enzyme spray immediately then biological washing powder/detergent will break down the enzymes in the pee to get rid of the smell

Namechangeme1 · 15/06/2021 23:39

Thank you so much. I can't even think straight this has just made me physically sick. The other cat smells so bad generally too I've been smelling a horrible smells for months and just thought I was going crazy

Apparently DH says we already have a microchip and he needs to check the settings as somehow it isn't working the way it should 🙄

Ok so tell yourself that you now know what the issue is and how to stop it. Take action and clean up where it has urinated and decide how to stop it now before you can get the kit to control access to the cat flap.
Get going with bio washing detergent if you haven’t got any enzyme spray.
I’m No cat expert but it sounds like this cat is trying to take over your cat’s territory.

I have this problem. Except it's a local Tom that wanders in and sprays.
It's summer. I have my back doors open
I feel bad for the Tom - he's mega sexually frustrated!
Hoping to grab him and affix a message asking his owners to get him neutered

Namechangeme1 · 16/06/2021 00:06

@Sloelydoesit it's absolutely disgusting. If I get hold of the owners of this one I'll give them what for and tell them to keep their dirty cat out of my house

Calmyertits · 16/06/2021 00:10

As gross as it is, theres little the owners can do. I mean i get it, id be furious too, but short of following the cat round, theres not much they can do. Get some simple solution and pop it in a spray bottle and drown all soft surfaces in it

VeniVidiWeeWee · 16/06/2021 00:12

@Namechangeme1

Course you will.

Namechangeme1 · 16/06/2021 00:16

@VeniVidiWeeWee yes course I will

It's annoying and disgusting but you do seem like you're overreacting. You sound like you've been betrayed... the cat isn't targeting you personally, he's just claiming your house as his territory. Do you have cats yourself? We had an unwanted male spraying everywhere when we got a female kitten

This is what I had to do. He didn't have a collar so I got one and taped a message to it saying if you don't get this cat done I will... they got it done within a couple of weeks. He was attacking my male cat and making his life a misery.

@Namechangeme1 another thing is can you shut the doors in your house so he can't access past a certain point?

Namechangeme1 · 16/06/2021 00:21

@NakedNugget my overreaction is probably because I really dislike cats. My DH has had one and I've never understood why anyone wants a cat - I've never understood them.

Therefore - when something like this happens it's just a stark reminder of why anyone would keep something so disgusting in their home.

OP posts:
Namechangeme1 · 16/06/2021 00:22

@NakedNugget yes that means confining our cat to only two rooms (more than enough IMO) but DH says it's mean as she should have the whole house to roam even when we are not in as she doesn't cause any harm apparently.

But I'll have to put my foot down after this and get the flap sorted as suggested

Also grateful to the enzyme recommendations i didn't know about that

But you have one ?Confused

I have 3 and they don't urinate or spray in our home. The one coming into yours is clearly needing to have his bits chopped

NakedNugget · 16/06/2021 00:36

He's coming by for your female. He won't go away until he's 'been done'

Does he have a collar? If not, do as I mentioned previously and put one on him with a message to contact you. If he's still got the collar on in a few days time it's likely he's homeless. At which point take him to the vet to get tested for chip and take it from there.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 16/06/2021 00:39

@Namechangeme1

Please tell us when you're "going to give them what for."

I could sell tickets.

John69 · 16/06/2021 00:39

Do you own a tazer? I feel this will effectively sort out the problem

Do come back and let us know how that went.

It's annoying that your cat flap has meant he can access your home but really the onus is on you to sort that out.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 16/06/2021 00:41

You really dislike cats but you have a cat.

How strange.

And vets don't check chips for routine visits.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 16/06/2021 00:49

@John69

A Taser?

No, you need one of these:
