A cat is coming into my home and urinating

I am so upset that a cat is coming into my house that I don't know and urinating.

I've noticed a random cat keeps being in my garden all the time and I noticed when getting home I keep smelling cat urine.

At first I thought it was my own cat urinating around the house but tonight whilst out I saw on my cameras it a cat walking around my house I don't know!!!

So now it makes sense - a random cat is coming into my home and urinating.

I'm so upset I could cry. Has this happened to anyone? I don't want to get rid of a flap as I hate litter trays but this is too much for me and now put me on a real downer.

I'm so upset.

@ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn

You really dislike cats but you have a cat.

How strange.

And vets don't check chips for routine visits.

Might be worth checking as my local vet did check the male I had coming in for a chip.

People do lots of things for love. The OP said it’s her husband’s cat.

They don't chip check your own cat though.

MilesOfSand · 16/06/2021 01:09

Has your cat been spayed? But yes I agree, clean the areas with an enzymatic cleaner (Natures Miracle is really effective) but definitely do not use bleach as the ammonia smell can confuse cats as it can smell like wee. You’ll really need to let the cleaner soak through flooring like carpet or wood to make sure it gets to the under layers. If it’s on fabric you might consider getting rid of them.

Why wouldn’t they if you told them the chip was possibly faulty?? Confused If the chip possibly needs to be replaced, of course they’d check it for you.

Why the nitpicking?

Of course, who needs to check if their own cat has a chip?

I explained to my vet that this male cat was looking rough (he was because he was attacking my cat a lot) and he was a danger to my cat.

The vet has a duty of care for the cats on their register (vets words not mine) and so they checked this male for a chip. He didn't have one. So I put a collar on him to see if he had a home and they got in touch with me and had him neutered. If I didn't hear back the vet was going to neuter him for me so he would hopefully stop attacking my cat

musthavebeenlove · 16/06/2021 01:36

Microchip catflap.

Is the cat neutered? Spraying is more common in ahum’intact’ male cats. Definitely get hold of the owners and ask them to pay for the damage. You did not invite that cat into your home, they let it wander around and damage to people’s houses and gardens is a possible outcome of that. Mine is an indoors cat for this reason alone but if I let her wander and she caused damage I would feel the responsibility to pay for the damage as the owner.

We clean cat poop and urine stains on the floor using bleach and use baking soda spray in other areas where bleach is not safe to use.

HappyDays40 · 16/06/2021 02:26

As disgusting as it is the owner of the cat can't be found liable for OPs cleaning and damages. It just doesn't work that way.
You just need to sort out the cat flap so it can't get in.

musthavebeenlove · 16/06/2021 02:29

Maybe not legally @HappyDays40 but I’d like to think that if the OP knows who the owners are, they’d be willing to pay for the damage because they feel a moral obligation.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 07:46

Neutering doesn't always stop spraying, a fixed cat male or female can still spray to mark its territory.

Very bizarre thread anyway- cat coming into my house ,reminds me of my boyfriend's cat ,don't know how anyone can have such a disgusting thing in their house. Errrr,ok Confused

Do you own a tazer? I feel this will effectively sort out the problem

😂😂😂

BarbarianMum · 16/06/2021 07:52
@Sloelydoesit it's absolutely disgusting. If I get hold of the owners of this one I'll give them what for and tell them to keep their dirty cat out of my house
Seriously? Because you leave your cat free to wander too... And you dont like litter trays so presumably it uses the entire neighbourhood as its toilet.

Why not cat proof your garden? Then your cat can use that for a loo and no other cats can get near your house.

misskatamari · 16/06/2021 07:59

Is it urinating or spraying? I’ve never known a cat to enter another home to urinate, but we did have a cat come in through our flap years ago who used to spray. Omg it was horrible, so I feel your pain. It’s stinks!!

Rug doctor do a good “urine eliminator” spray which contains enzymes which work on bodily fluids. Also agree with microchip cat flap, it’s what solved out problem. I also got a water pistol so if I spotted him in the garden I gave him a squirt as a deterrent (doesn’t hurt them, but can help deter them from wanting to be in your space). It’s so horrible, and probably very distressing for your cat. If it is urine you’re smelling are you sure it isn’t from your own cat? I’ve known our cat to wee inside on the odd occasion when neighbourhood cats have been trying to take over our garden, as it can be a stress response to them feeling threatened. Also, do you confine your cat? As that could surely be quite stressful for her? Not sure what you mean when you say she can only go in two rooms, can she still come and go freely?

InglouriousBasterd · 16/06/2021 08:02
@NakedNugget my overreaction is probably because I really dislike cats. My DH has had one and I've never understood why anyone wants a cat - I've never understood them.

Therefore - when something like this happens it's just a stark reminder of why anyone would keep something so disgusting in their home.

I felt sorry for you until this point...amazingly enough, not all cats are ‘disgusting’ Hmm

But do enjoy giving the owner ‘what for’ Grin

Namechangeme1 · 16/06/2021 08:07

@misskatamari it has been urinating too but yesterday it did a spray.

I was very angry yesterday have calmed down a bit now and will be cleaning everything too to bottom inside and out.

Maybe I was overreacting but things like this really upset me, I love my home and some random cat comes in and effectively partly destroys it - we all know cat piss does not go away fully so it disheartening.

OP posts:
Namechangeme1 · 16/06/2021 08:09

@misskatamari yes our cat can come and go freely through the flap but we try and fail on some occasions to shit the doors to rest of the house. When we do she is confided to two rooms but also the outdoors as the flap always gives her access from these rooms if that makes sense

OP posts:
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/06/2021 08:10

You let your cat wander - for all you know they go into other peoples homes and piss.

Namechangeme1 · 16/06/2021 08:11

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I'm not sure what is bizarre about it? We have a cat but if it were up to me I wouldn't have it - it's my DH cat. I never had a choice in it. I stay out of its way and that works fine. But when another cat comes in I find it more distressing.

What I find bizarre is when people get offended that someone may not like cats.

OP posts:
Namechangeme1 · 16/06/2021 08:13

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz she's not a Tom cat and has been spayed so I'm highly doubtful this is the case but if I found out it were I'd be equally annoyed and embarrassed yes. I'd feel bad in the owner of the house especially if she had urinated.

OP posts:
shouldistop · 16/06/2021 08:15

Honestly, it's a bit ironic that you're so upset about cat pee when you don't have litter trays.
Where do you think your cats are pissing and shitting?
So glad I got another dog as it keeps the neighbourhood cats from shitting in my garden.

Namechangeme1 · 16/06/2021 08:17

@shouldistop honestly. I don't think my cat is pissing and shitting in peoples home. We live by lots of fields so presumably there. But my rant was never about cats and dogs pissing in my garden. Coming into someone's house is an entirely different matter, which I am highly doubtful my cat does

OP posts:
shouldistop · 16/06/2021 08:18

The owner of that cat probably doesn't think their cat is doing it either.
If you don't have a litter tray then your cat is likely shitting in peoples gardens for their kids to get covered in.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 08:18

Coming into someone's house is an entirely different matter, which I am highly doubtful my cat does

Bet it does Grin

Get enzyme spray,it'll be sorted in no time.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/06/2021 08:19

But how can you possibly know?! The other cat comes into your home even though they have plenty fields around.

Namechangeme1 · 16/06/2021 08:19

And like I said - if it were up to me I wouldn't be involved with cats at all. I have no input to the cat I have. It's not mine. Some people may find that bizarre but it's how it is.

ME and DH do not share a love of pets. I put up with it because there is little choice really and I'm not going to leave him because he owns a cat!
