Why does the England team appropriate the British national anthem?

Why on earth is this still happening?

England uses Jerusalem for the Commonwealth Games, why can't it use it for other occasions too?

I'm English, but I envy the Scots their choice of National Anthem especially when sung at Murrayfield
I don't think Jerusalem is appropriate as not enough people know the words.

I think Jerusalem would be great. It’s used in association with the England cricket team. People would soon learn the words.

Im not 100% clear. Do you believe that if the English team used Jerusalem the Scottish team might use GSTQ? Or is it more a case that you think none of the home nations should use GSTQ unless representing the UK?

The official National Anthem of Scotland is God Save The Queen. Apparently the Scottish Executive have the power to change the Anthem but have not chosen to do so.

England hasn't appropriated it. The others have rejected it. There's a difference.

God Save the Queen is the official national anthem of all the home countries together as the UK or separately, so technically they "should" play it twice on Friday.

GTSQ is the English national anthem. Not sure why they shouldn't use it?

The national anthem should be used for GB teams.

When the home nations play separately they should each have their own.

Settling on one for England is long overdue.

Scotland could use it if they wanted to. There's no rule saying they have to have different tunes.

It's much more that Scotland don't want to use the British anthem than that England have appropriated it.

I propose England adopt Vindaloo or Footballs Coming Home- at least for the Footie.

As there's zero agreement in existing songs, I think we need someone to write rousing words to The Archers theme tune, or perhaps the DamBusters

There are words to the Dambusters song! But it’s a hymn so might not work.

Actually thinking about it, I think we should scrap GSTQ and just have Vindaloo as our national anthem. Much more upbeat.

I've just had a google - there are a lot of different lyrics set to Dambusters - not just hymns. I had no idea! Scrub that one then

Tbh - pretty much anything is more upbeat. It’s a bit of a dirge.
