Dogs in cars again

FuckyouCovid21 · 14/06/2021 14:34

Seriously when will people learn?! On our local FB group today, another dog had to rescued from a car because the owner had gone to the hairdressers. Why oh why would you take a dog out in the car in hot weather unless you really need to but to leave it in a car when you go to the hairdressers/shopping etc.? Beggars beliefs

When the fuck will people learn?

This makes me so angry.

I agree that thoughtless owners are the pits and it's horrendous to leave a dog in a car in such hot weather.

(You may want to ask MN to reword your thread title though..)

Brings new meaning to the term 'dogging'!

Yeah I'll ask them to reword Grin

Interesting thread title!

YANBU but I can't imagine anyone will disagree with you

quizqueen · 14/06/2021 14:59

Anyone found leaving a dog in a car in the heat should be banned from owning dogs forever. Also, I'd like to see them losing their car too as the fine.

Soubriquet · 14/06/2021 15:04

It’s ridiculous

You honestly would think in this day and age, people would know not to leave dogs (and children) in a hot car. But every year it happens.

People also stupidly walk their dog on concrete in the middle of a hot day too.

If you wouldn’t walk on it barefoot whilst wearing a fur coat, don’t make your dog do it!

KillerFlamingo · 14/06/2021 15:08

Tbh, fucking dogs in cars once is bad enough, let alone again! Pack it in!

TheQueef · 14/06/2021 15:10

There is a vid in the mail today.
Police breaking the window and some woman shouted at them.

How can anyone not know now?

@FuckyouCovid21

YANBU. The sentence should be much more than a crappy fine, and a ban from keeping pets for a bloody year or whatever. Should be a mandatory 6 month jail sentence for leaving a dog in a car, and a 2 year sentence if the dog dies. (Or any other animal obvs.)

BluebellsareBlue · 14/06/2021 15:16

It's too hot for fucking in cars!! Seriously though, I agree it's neglect and it infuriates me no end!

TheGumption · 14/06/2021 15:18

It disgusts me. Should be banned from keeping pets for life.

fashionablefennel · 14/06/2021 15:19

I don't know.

Add the number of utter morons who "park in the shade" and are flabbergasted the car doesn't stay in the fucking shade.

It's beyond stupidity, it's physical torture of the animals, there should be a lot more than a fine.

SlothMama · 14/06/2021 15:24

It's disgusting, these people cannot claim to not know the fact that dogs die in hot cars. They should have their animals removed from them

newnortherner111 · 14/06/2021 15:24

The law should be changed. You should not be allowed to leave a dog unattended in a car at any time, for more than say 2 or 3 minutes (the length of time to pay at a petrol station). Even in the depths of winter, no exceptions, so no judgment as to shade etc. Anyone should be allowed to break into a car to rescue an animal and not face any charge of criminal damage.

The person who left the car with the dog inside should face a driving ban, not a token fine.

poppycat10 · 14/06/2021 15:25

Also the idiots who take their dogs for walks in the heat of lunchtime! I am not a dog fan but even I know that's cruel. So called dog-lovers, eh?

LoveMySituation · 14/06/2021 15:26

My landlady did this regularly. Apparently there was no alternative. She was just being selfish. Even in the shade, with water etc, I thought it was so unfair on the dog. I used to beg her to leave the dog with me on hot days. He was old, had an awful cough, I moved out, but I wouldn't have been surprised if she ended up killing him because of it. She wasn't nice to me either. Never walked the poor thing either. Unfortunately, tiny town, so often see her around

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/06/2021 15:33

This would be good. I have a glass-breaker thingy. I could carry it around.

Saddlesore · 14/06/2021 15:39

I agree that it is cruel and thoughtless. But... I was shouted at by a judgy person just the other day because I popped into a corner shop briefly, leaving my two dogs in the boot of the SUV. Before you too jump to attack me, I can leave the car with the climate control running remotely, even when the (electric) engine isn't on. So the dogs were happy in the 16C interior while outside was baking. I tried to explain to Mrs Judgy, but she would no doubt have had someone smash in before realising that the dogs were in a more comfortable climate than she was. So, don't be too quick to assume...

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/06/2021 15:49

You do find this level of thoughtlessness frequently with dog owners.

No idea why.

I’ve noticed with the young ones who move in around here they soon have a puppy left on its own howling all day. Only one couple had a dog walker. The other couple left their PUPPY on it’s own all fireworks night and returned about 10am the next day. He’d cried all night. Broke my heart listening to him, neighbours were out on the road trying to find an open window Angry

HelloViroids · 14/06/2021 15:54

@Saddlesore I was going to point this out, newer cars now have a “dog mode” that keeps the temp perfect,l - a relative was using this but when she returned to the car got loudly criticised by a circle of people who had formed and didn’t let her explain until she drove off in tears.

OrangeRug · 14/06/2021 16:00

It's a shame people don't get so upset about farm animals crammed into factory farms and trucks headed to the slaughterhouse in the scorching heat eh?

Ooh that is interesting, I've never heard of a 'dog mode'. Perhaps a rear window sticker that explains the Dog Mode is active would be a good idea?

Not to be confused with the 'dogging mode'
