To make noise in the garden

BrilliantBetty · 12/06/2021 15:01

AIBU to use noisy jet wash at 3pm on a Saturday.

Neighbours are probably happily enjoying the sunshine in peace. I can hear some low volume classical music so they must be out.

... but i'd like to Jet my decking and garden furniture, so we can eat at the outdoor table this evening.

Go for it. It's the sort of background noise I'd expect on a day like today. Just be careful not to splash them.

EmeraldShamrock · 12/06/2021 15:02

Work away, Saturdays are fine.

Chihuahuacat · 12/06/2021 15:08

Yup I’d be fine with this as well. Much better than loud obnoxious music / dogs barking / people smoking.

Jet washing expected and normal

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 12/06/2021 15:08

It'll only be for a few minutes, surely?

OldTinHat · 12/06/2021 15:09

When else are you going to do it?! 2am on a Tuesday? Stop faffing about and get on with it! Atm I can hear a strimmer, a radio, kids playing and an idiot with a motorbike that he's preferring to rev instead of ride! It's not offensive noise, just weekend noise.

Mavisisnotmyname · 12/06/2021 15:09

Go go it, Saturday afternoon is perfectly acceptable.

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 12/06/2021 15:09

Our next door but one neighbour has just started using a very noisy power tool - I can smell sawdust, so think he’s using some kind of circular saw.

So a power washer would be nothing at the side of that!

I don’t see a problem with doing it. Unless you come back and say your deck is 50m x 50m and you have 100 chairs and tables.

Just make sure you don’t get the dirt and water on your neighbors side.

TheChosenTwo · 12/06/2021 15:11

Oh jeez, this is a sign you’ve been on MN too long!!
On MN a garden is a thing to look at from inside thus not making a single sound.
In real life, people use their garden to do what they want and need unless it’s ridiculously early/late.
Crack on, jet wash!

BrilliantBetty · 12/06/2021 15:15

No Grin luckily just four chairs, table, small bench and small deck.

Probably take half an hour.

You could be half way through by now!
AlternativePerspective · 12/06/2021 15:19

Why on earth would anyone think this was a problem? Seriously.

Pinkblueberry · 12/06/2021 15:20

We’re out in our garden chilling, DH watching the football on his phone - I can hear the neighbours doing the same, cheering every now and then I think they’ve got family round. Others playing music and kids in another garden splashing in a pool - you’d come across as an absolute dick around here tbh. Jet washing could have been done at 10/11 this morning. You get it out the way in the morning and then enjoy the weekend and let everyone else enjoy theirs...

burritofan · 12/06/2021 15:26

Jet washing, mowing, DIY = Saturday morning jobs round here. Saturday afternoons for not having to hear everyone’s noise. Mind you listening to other people’s music and tv on their phones would annoy me more.

Pinkblueberry · 12/06/2021 15:26

By that I don’t mean don’t do it though - I’m just saying maybe judge the room. If you hear everyone around you having a nice time and smell bbq I’d say best leave it.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 12/06/2021 15:28

Hope you do a better job than our neighbours... their paved area is just manky black with white squiggles all over it. If you are going to do a job, it’s worth doing it well...

AlternativePerspective · 12/06/2021 15:33

What a load of crap.

For some people other people’s children playing in the garden is inconsiderate.

There have been threads on here complaining that people play music in their gardens

We’re talking about a jet washer not a bloody excavator.

OP, pay no attention, people are only this twattish on MN.

TheChosenTwo · 12/06/2021 15:44

@Pinkblueberry you’ve obviously not read the threads where people are dragged over hot coals for daring to have a bbq and stinking out the neighbourhood Confused
Basically OP, you can’t win.
Most normal people accept that people do stuff in their gardens. It’s not like you’re going to be jetwashing for 3 hours, using a firefighter’s hose.

crimsonlake · 12/06/2021 15:51

Tbh honest my neighbour powerwashed his pation last week and it lasted for hours. I did not initially mind, but it ruined the afternoon as you could still hear it from indoors.
I am loaning one soon to do quite a big job, I am usually off on Friday's so I will do it then as I do not want it to impact so much on neighbours who hopefully wont be around.

obvsnotasecretgarden · 12/06/2021 15:57

Or in true MN style, be annoyed that your neighbours are having a bbq and passive aggressively jetwash their bbq 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Pinkblueberry · 12/06/2021 16:07

To be fair that’s true, I usually steer clear of garden noise threads... but I’m literally in the garden right now and when OP mentioned jet wash I couldn’t help but imagine everyone’s chill time round here being ruined so had to say my bit Grin they could live just down the road for all I know!
But yes I guess it’s all down to personal preference - I’m enjoying the sounds of kids playing and music and smell BBQ smoke - it’s all very summery - but clearly that’s another person’s idea of hell!

StoneofDestiny · 12/06/2021 16:08

Perfectly reasonable.

denverRegina · 12/06/2021 16:10

The football on the phone is worse. Hate phone noise.

HyacynthBucket · 12/06/2021 16:11

PinkBlueBerry
You are so right. I have just had to come in from garden where DH and were sitting in sun with paperbacks - first time to relax at all, let alone in sunshine, for ages. We did strimming, mowing at 10.30 this morning, but next door neighbour for last hour and a half has been using jet wash to rinse down their ginormous deck - it is unbelievably loud, and he is using it more as a toy than something he needs to do. He has a collection of high powered, extremely noisy gadgets - you name it he has got it the louder the better. Just being able to relax in our back garden for the first time in the weekend sunshine this summer? - No. Not only that but he doesn't work, so could have done this on one of the dry but cloudier days this week. I am fuming.

EveningOverRooftops · 12/06/2021 16:18

Yes do it though I’ve be been half tempted to yell out to my neighbour he needs more lube when drilling metal. Ouch the screeching noise has been doing my head in today.

HelpMeh · 12/06/2021 16:19

People are so weird on here...

So because some people choose to do their noise making at 10am, no one else should do theirs in the afternoon? How ridiculous. If it's daylight hours you can jetwash when you like.
