To be inwardly cringing for Matt Handcock

I'm no fan of the man, but the 'explanations' are so cringey to watch.

Just say you got it wrong and say sorry.

DrManhattan · 10/06/2021 12:32

He can't. Proper weasel

Orf1abc · 10/06/2021 12:39

I used to feel sorry for him, I thought he was inept but well meaning. Now he's just coming across as an utter liar (as well as inept). He's attempting to rewrite history.

MouseyTheVampireSlayer · 10/06/2021 12:45

It's actually painful to watch. The stuttering, the weasel words. I'm so embarrassed on his behalf.

OP posts:
Serpenta · 10/06/2021 12:47

The lies he's spouted that there was no shortage of PPE. Gross and offensive.

Just another revolting worm in a government of thieving, revolting worms.

tornadosequins · 10/06/2021 12:47

Just say you got it wrong and say sorry.

That would require integrity.

WinstonsWeirdVole · 10/06/2021 12:51

Agree they are cringe-making beyond belief but YABU to have any sympathy whatsoever for that lying scumbag!

MouseyTheVampireSlayer · 10/06/2021 12:52

Yes, but I think the public would be much more accepting of saying they got it wrong, they underestimated how much PPE to get, or went through the wrong channels. I think it'd be more accepted to say that they panicked with no beds in hospitals and so sent people back into care homes because of that and will look at hospital capacity and increasing funding as a result.

I'm not sure how much longer the public will accept lying. It's not just him either. No one in politics seems to be be able to tell hard truths.

OP posts:
ChoccyJules · 10/06/2021 12:53

When he said there was no shortage of PPE I shouted bollocks at the radio with all the windows wide open Blush what does he have over Boris I wonder?!

MouseyTheVampireSlayer · 10/06/2021 12:55

How could anyone have anything on Boris?
He's deplorable nature is public knowledge. Short of actual bodied, any revelations would get shrugged off.

OP posts:
ChoccyJules · 10/06/2021 13:01

Well yes, I was actually going to say he knows where the bodies are buried (as is often said about Steve Wright still being on R1) but it didn’t feel appropriate.

You’re right, after all, this week a court ruled the Govt broke the law. Is anyone being arrested? No.

the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 13:02

Jeremy Hunt is enjoying himself today ( from the very tiny bit I did hear )

CovidCorvid · 10/06/2021 13:04

I saw a bit where he pretty much said there was a shortage of PPE, that that was the reason for not insisting on mask wearing earlier because they had to prioritise PPE. So is he not contradicting himself?

Serpenta · 10/06/2021 13:06

This government can break all the rules and all the laws. Nothing happens.

I can't imagine anything taking any of them down, unless it involves an actual body being found in their home.

Bunnyfuller · 10/06/2021 13:07

Boris’ govt never says they were wrong, and therefore no need to say sorry. And saying sorry implies you know you got something wrong,

Emilyontmoor · 10/06/2021 13:12

Choccy Nothing, he is there to do as he is told and take the fall.

The one that had me shouting at the screen was that they didn’t know it was asymptomatic. The science coming out of China got lost in translation. It was printed by the Wuhan doctors in the Lancet in January in ENGLISH.

As to his ambitious targets being taught in Business Schools, but he got there in sheer brain power? Well I went to business school and I was definitely not there if there was a lecture that said that when embarking in a project like expanding testing you ignore your existing resources (and actually pay the people with the skills and experience to stay at home), requisition all their equipment , employ expensive people with no skills or experience to manage it who then set up an operation from scratch, somewhere nobody with any skills and experience lives so they have to be put up in Travelodges, that takes a long time to work out what to do with that equipment and is unsafe, badly managed and has a high staff turnover as a result. Then set it a totally unrealistic target which you loudly publicise to the electorate and then have to cook the books to falsely claim you achieved it even though all the above problems persist with nobody learning the lessons from their mistakes or from all those scientists who do know how to run a safe effective operation, some of whom decided not to sit at home twiddling their fingers and worked with Cancer Research U.K. to do exactly that. Nope not a strategy and tactics you will encounter in a business school where instead you got taught the boring processes of effective project planning and logistics management that clearly Dido Harding never learnt!

It’s gaslighting on an epic scale.

Theunamedcat · 10/06/2021 13:14

Although "handcock" is probably a better way to describe him (ie wanker) his name is Hancock?

placemats · 10/06/2021 13:16

I don't feel sorry at all for a minister who lied about the care home situation at the start of the pandemic.

the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 13:26

My sons ex girlfriend was working in the local hospital to us at the start of the pandemic as a newly qualified nurse and she told me there was a shortage of ppe and hoped it would be sorted out. They got it eventually, but it wasn't great for weeks apparently.
We were all told that masks don't work. Even 'celeb ' doctors came on tv shows saying they ' were a waste of time' as people wouldn't wear them properly. Obviously all that changed?
Maybe they are hoping we will forget all this?

Orf1abc · 10/06/2021 13:36

Maybe they are hoping we will forget all this?

Many already have. All this posturing about the England team, Harry and Meghan, it's all to distract people from what they've done.

If I walked into any local pub today, you'd hear more people ranting about 'woke' than about government negligence.

Lampzade · 10/06/2021 13:39

I feel second hand embarrassment on his behalf
Totally inept

Ha ha

Autocorrect ☺️
Perhaps phone is biased. Who knows?

OP posts:
CustardSquirrel · 10/06/2021 13:53

It is like watching an episode of The Thick of It.

the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 14:09

Sadly people have forgotten how bad it was at first. It is true.
The vaccine roll out has saved the day and distraction about other people has worked :(
I won't forget though.

FrankDarko · 10/06/2021 14:10

Where can I see this? Is it from today?
