Euro 2020

the80sweregreat · 09/06/2021 22:43

.. it should be 2021?

I know it's rolled over from last year .. etc etc
it's just wrong on so many levels calling it 2020?
Plus it's football so doubly annoying and on for a whole month as well.
Just shoot me now.

Probably because it's been held every 4 years since 1960. Also don't watch it then, it's only a month.

This.

Yabu, it is the Euro 2020 tournament, its just being held in 2021 because it has been delayed not because the tournament was intentionally moved.

Plus all of the graphics, merch, branding, kits etc was already created for Euro 2020 last year, why would they spend ££££ to change it to 2021 when everyone knows why it is branded 2020?

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/06/2021 01:31

Cost too much to change it.

Ginuwine · 10/06/2021 05:48

Wow.

The same as the Olympics.

SuperstoreFan · 10/06/2021 05:55

It's only on for a month and nobody is propping your eyes open with matchsticks and forcing you to watch it.

KindergartenKop · 10/06/2021 06:02

They've already printed the mugs.

See also Tokyo 2020.

the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 06:15

Yes, I just was a bit meh about it , but it does make sense I suppose.

Other tv channels and streaming services are available. Just because I will watch it doesn't mean I recognise some people don't. I won't complain about the level of coverage of Wimbledon tennis, nor the annual snookerthon, nor much of the Olympics coverage, even though it is not for me.

Shade17 · 10/06/2021 07:42

The sooner we get knocked out the better!

ilovesooty · 10/06/2021 08:41

Just watch something else then.

AgeLikeWine · 10/06/2021 08:44

I’m really looking forward to this. It’s a year overdue, England have our strongest squad in years and we’re going to hammer Scotland at Wembley!

What’s not to enjoy? Smile

Yeah, it was Euro-2020 and that is technically the official name, but it is being done in 2021 now, so it is kind of irksome that they keep calling it 2020. (The less I hear anyone mention THAT chuffing year, the better!) Hmm

Oh hell to the yeah! Grin
the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 09:03

Chrisonthebeach, finally someone understands what I'm saying here!
I don't like football , but millions do and it is on only a month and shared on the channels and other channels and services are available on tv ( or I could read a book, go out etc) but calling it 'Euro 2020 'did throw me a bit as it was such a shit year and even Gareth Southgate looked a bit unconvinced about their prospects I thought (but then he is the only one of the English squad I can actually name and he is normally a bit like that anyway. )

Just watch something else then.

Tell that to the poor women who get a smack from their drunken Neanderthal every time England lose. The fewer games we play the better.

InnaBun · 10/06/2021 10:03

Yeah I think they should call it Euro 2021. 2020 wasn't exactly a great year. But I get PP's points about the mugs etc having already been printed

the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 10:13

It'll be a teaser on quizzes in thirty years time for the new generation ' when were the 2020 Euros held' ?
I agree that the domestic violence aspect is a worry around these big tournaments and just bad behavior in general abroad with the fans ( which makes me sad to be a brit)
Maybe the corona restrictions generally will dampen a lot of that though? Less fans able to go along? People not bothering as much ?
I looked up the groups and England's one isn't easy ( so I'm told)

OP posts:
ghostyslovesheets · 10/06/2021 10:39

Ah all football fans are violent thugs - it’s that time again 😀

I’ve never smacked anyone in 50 years of fan ship or been smacked

I hate tennis but I don’t moan about it on tv every year for Wimbledon- get over it OP

the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 10:41

There has been bad behavior in the past with England fans. You can't deny this.
Something you don't get at the Olympics or Wimbledon or the Rugby. It does bring out the worst in some people.

OP posts:
ghostyslovesheets · 10/06/2021 10:54

Yeah rugby fans are golden - for the record I’ve never rioted either - please don’t label all footy fans as thugs it’s not true

The blame lies with the violent men, not with the football.

Sadly Wales and Scotland qualified too, so beatings will be taking place up and down the land.

The England v Scotland game kicks of at 2000 on a Friday night - there will be plenty of sore heads in Glasgow on Saturday morning, and not just those of the football fans who had too many drinks - their partners will be sore too, for different reasons.

Come on, you must know by now that according to many on MN we must be beer swilling, rioting, racist thugs if we watch football!
