.. it should be 2021?

I know it's rolled over from last year .. etc etc
it's just wrong on so many levels calling it 2020?
Plus it's football so doubly annoying and on for a whole month as well.
Just shoot me now.

Ah all football fans are violent thugs - it’s that time again

Of course not, but there will be women out there getting a beating because some scumbag can’t handle his national team losing a game.

ghostyslovesheets · 10/06/2021 12:18

That down to the man not the football

@ChainJane is there a reason you chose Glasgow as an example or just a lazy generalisation?

JudgeJ · 10/06/2021 12:40

@Shade17

The sooner we get knocked out the better!
Are you a Scot?
JudgeJ · 10/06/2021 12:43

@Shade17

Just watch something else then.

Tell that to the poor women who get a smack from their drunken Neanderthal every time England lose. The fewer games we play the better.

You really need a better class of acquantances if that's your perception not to mention your glaring sexism in assuming it's only men who watch and their partners are timid punchbags.
JudgeJ · 10/06/2021 12:44

@ghostyslovesheets

Ah all football fans are violent thugs - it’s that time again 😀

I’ve never smacked anyone in 50 years of fan ship or been smacked

I hate tennis but I don’t moan about it on tv every year for Wimbledon- get over it OP

Same here, I'm 73 and have only felt violent once, when Germany equalised in the 1966 World Cup!
the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 12:45

All the men in my family have never hit anyone! They are not thugs or wife beaters, but do enjoy watching and following football.
My original post wasn't about football related violence anyway , but there is no denying the fact that it is this particular sport which brings out the worst in people, mainly men sadly :(

A man who is going to abuse his partner is not doing so because of the football, he is is doing it because he is an abuser who will use the football loss as an excuse to abuse his partner in the same way he will use any other reasonable to justify his abuse.

Normal people don't become abusers just because their football team have lost a game, these kinds of attitudes and stereotypes are actually harmful for DV victims as it perpetuates the idea that their partners behaviour has a justifiable cause rather than it being part of their abusive behaviour

melj1213 · 10/06/2021 12:48

*other reason, not "other reasonable"

It’s obviously just another trigger and not a fault of football itself. Studies suggest that DV cases do increase in the event of an England loss and the vast majority of those will be assaults on women by men. I’m not suggesting for one moment that all football fans are male and violent.

the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 15:30

Of course not all men are violent.
This is not what I meant in my opening post at all!!
I have hated the violence I have seen on tv by English fans ( in the past ) as it makes me sad to be a Brit. I hope we don't see any of that this year.
I want to go off well and I appreciate that many women like football too and will be happy to see a summer of sport back on this year too after last years lack of any big sporting events being shown. It'll help the economy too , if nothing else.

Any violence seen at or around football matches is usually down to over indulging alcohol, so are you going to ban drink?

Football is a great sport it is played at grass roots and is a great social leveller, Other sports require a lot of financial backing when you are starting up, but not football,

This thread is all over the place

the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 15:52

It was honestly just a whinge about it being called ' 2020' when it's being played in 2021.
I know why this is the case. I understand it and it makes sense , but I was just querying the logic. I'm sure many will enjoy the football and being shared amongst the tv stations is good.
I'll do other things when it's on or watch other programmes etc.

Noting like some sweeping generalisations eh?

While yes DV cases do increase during football tournaments- it's not football's fault.
It's violent men and alcohol.

Let's not brand all football fans violent thugs.

The problem is that by using statements like

"there will be women out there getting a beating because some scumbag can’t handle his national team losing a game.

It infers causality in that the only reason they are being abused is due to the football, when in fact the reason they are abused is because their partner is an abuser and their team losing provides another trigger point for their behaviour (especially if there is alcohol involved, which is usually the case).
