To love the 2p machines

Honestly, it’s monotonous, you gain nothing and is low level gambling but they incredibly exciting to me. I might win a tacky key chain, some cheap chocolate or if I’m really lucky - a bunch of tickets I’ll never ‘cash in’ because you need a million before you can actually buy anything with them.

I’m planning a weekend trip away with DP and DS3 to the seaside soon and I’ve asked that I can dropped off in the nearest arcade for 2 hours with my ever-growing stash of 2p whilst he takes DS out to swim and get ice cream. He’s agreed (reluctantly) but he thinks I’m mad. But I can’t be alone, right, as they still have them in arcades?!

(For reference, I do like other more ‘cultural’ and nature things too, but this is one of those frivolous, wasteful things I like to do - but honestly, in 2 hours the most I’m likely to spend is £10-£15).

Am I U, and more importantly am I alone in this?

You are not alone in this! Bloody love them. And I love tipping point!

bigbluebus · 09/06/2021 18:09

I was brought up at the seaside and spent many happy hours playing on these machines. DH on the other hand had never played on them until I introduced him to them. My DS has also had many happy hours playing on them. We don't save up our 2ps - we just have a £1 worth each from the change machine in our plastic tubs and see who is last to run out of money. We always leave with nothing but have had probably 1/2 hrs entertainment for £3. None of us have turned into gamblers and we've never touched the fruit machines - even though I played the one arm bandits as a child.

AnAwesomePossum · 09/06/2021 18:10

I feel like I have found my people!

It’s that joy when you see it coming and after so many fruitless attempts it suddenly happens; it all falls down and you get £1 worth of 2ps and a weird metal lizard keyring and you know you’ve hit the jackpot!

I’m in Brighton for the night and just been playing them on the pier!

Love them! The push penny ones are great!

I love the 2p machines i could stand and spend hours on them. There is something therapeutic about them. And ahhh when a big chunk of 2p's fall off. WOW that feels amazing lol winner winner

OldTinHat · 09/06/2021 18:16

2p machines are the best thing ever!!

Isolemnlyscare · 09/06/2021 18:17

We love the 2p machines. DS won a pair of ipods with a fiver stuck to the box last year. He probably put a fivers worth of 2p's in but he's still gotta be quids in coz ipods must cost a fair bit!!!

Noshowlomo · 09/06/2021 18:17

God I love them soooo much !

mogsrus · 09/06/2021 18:18

Warning !! You can spend a huge amount in 2hours,don't forget you only get 50 2 pence pieces for a quid & that's gone in what? 20 seconds,I work in an arcade, you would be amazed how much pushers make a week, she watering.

LubaLuca · 09/06/2021 18:18

I'm disappointed if we go to the seaside and there are no amusement arcades.

I won three Ty cuddly toys from the 2p slots in Looe a few years ago. That's dedication for you.

The machine gun technique is quite effective ( not that myself and a friend where competing for the most amount of tat during one holiday, honest)

JE17 · 09/06/2021 18:21

Yanbu, I'm more excited than the kids when I've got my tub full of coppers. Sometimes I drift over to the bingo too in the hope of winning a box of Matchmakers.

ultrablue · 09/06/2021 18:27

@CeeJay81

Yep me too!! I esp love them when we go to Have, "Winner Winner". Can be really addictive. I'll go round looking at them all and trying to find the best ones to get something out of.
Me too, always look for the best one to play, oh and checking machines for the odd 2p which might have dropped through... Free plays..
Cally62 · 09/06/2021 18:31

Machine gun technique Hahaha

I have adult children and we all go to the arcades when they're home with their dp's.

The best thing playing as an adult is having an unlimited amount of money. OMG the competition is fierce between us all.

I have a box of giant monopoly pieces in a box upstairs that must have cost a fortune to win....

Bloody love it....

helpfulperson · 09/06/2021 18:35

I think @hunterangel sums it up best.

Love them.

JeremyIronsBenFolds · 09/06/2021 18:36

Ah, the arcade machines. Love them, can happily waste and hour or so playing them. I’ll never forget the thrill I got hooking a Tamagochi out of the claw machine as a student Grin. Fake tamagochi of course...

gingercat02 · 09/06/2021 18:37

Love love love them. We call them penny falls. I won £5 in our local one. I was beyond excited (I'm 50!)

AnAwesomePossum · 09/06/2021 18:41

I also won a fake tamagotchi many moons ago. Now I would look at that as a double win (hours wasted winning, hours wasted keeping a fake virtual pet alive!)

Yes, I love them! I'm not a big fan of the beach so if we go to the seaside I can happily spend hours in the amusements.

BanTheMLMScam · 09/06/2021 18:47

You are NOT being unreasonable and you are NOT alone!

You can't beat the feeling of absolute elation when you win 56p after putting £10 in the machine 🤣🤣

I love them!

PineappleTart · 09/06/2021 18:48

I love them too much

TidyDancer · 09/06/2021 18:52

Oh yes, this is one of my favourites things about a trip to the seaside! Traipsing into the arcade for a break in the afternoon when it's too hot to stay on the beach for too long, hours of fun have been had there!

GameSetMatch · 09/06/2021 19:10

The Arcade we visit still has 1p machines and the kiddie rides are only 30p! I love a 2p machine but YABVU not letting your DS enjoy the 2p fun! It’s great for finger manipulation skills

Snowbeau · 09/06/2021 19:13

If you love them, try penny push game app...apologies in advance!
