AIBU to want to eat all the desserts?

ElleDubloo · 08/06/2021 19:22

Lately I have become obsessed with the desire to watch someone slave away at making a ridiculously complicated delicious dessert (a la Bake Off: The Professionals) and then I get to eat it.

I’m picturing a restaurant where the chefs make the desserts in an open area and people can come in and watch them, maybe sit at a counter, then get to buy the desserts. A bit like a sushi belt? And this would involve eating several desserts. Minimum 5-7. More if they’re small.

Does somewhere like this exist?

I live in the South East. Happy to pay £££££ but it’s got to be top notch.

Wow. Never heard of it but I’m coming too.

stackemhigh · 08/06/2021 19:24

I'm too impatient, I just want to buy the cake and eat it.

Sound slime a great business idea

There is the pudding shop in St Albans but I do t know if it's still open. Just does puddings but not in the way you describe

You're welcome! 😊

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/06/2021 19:26

The blurb:

Enjoy a whole evening’s entertainment starting with a glass of Bucks Fizz and a jovial introduction by The Pudding Master followed by a light main course and then the Parade of Seven Traditional Puddings, with all its noise and ceremony, the aim is to taste them all and then to vote for your favourite pudding of the night over coffee. Guests depart certificates in hand!

During June July and August we change it up a bit and host our summer pudding clubs. For three months we do a combination of 3 hot puddings and 4 cold puddings which include puddings such as Gooseberry Fool, Summer Pudding and Eton Mess. The hot puddings are such as favourites like Syrup Sponge and Sticky Toffee.

You don't get to watch them make stuff, but it is a dessert shop:

ElleDubloo · 08/06/2021 19:35

Thanks for the suggestions, but I’m afraid the watching is absolutely essential Halo

And not ordinary cakes or puddings, please. I’m sorry. I need Michelin-starred shit like this Grin

Am I being weird? Blush

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/06/2021 19:49

@ElleDubloo hmm. How about Chef's Table in Bristol? You could warn them in advance that you plan to order only all of the dessert options.

@JesusInTheCabbageVan Oh my goodness this sounds amazing and there's one close enough to justify me going to with DH. Never heard of it but it's genuinely made my day to know it exists.

Also OP, brilliant idea and no you're not BU, I feel the same 😆

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/06/2021 19:54

@GalaxyGirl24 I knoooow, I've never been but I really want to! Bristolians are spoiled bloody rotten when it comes to restaurants. Angry

GalaxyGirl24 · 08/06/2021 19:57

@JesusInTheCabbageVan
They've got one touring in Yorkshire! Genuinely amazed it exists.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/06/2021 19:59

I know what you mean, you can't beat a Wall's Family Vanilla Brick and ONE spoon!

SomewhereInbetween1 · 08/06/2021 19:59

The way you wrote it almost makes it sound like a kink 😂

I made this for a wedding this weekend… happy for you to pay me for a ring side seat for the next one!! I love watching baking shows (and actual baking), I’m obsessed so can totally get where you’re coming from Grin

@GalaxyGirl24 I'm in Cardiff so could make it to the Bristol one.. problem is I've got a to-do list of restaurants as long as my arm after lockdown, and DH is already pleading finances/indigestion!

TheShoeLady · 08/06/2021 20:02

However, it would mainly consist of me swearing a lot, as custard squirts out of everywhere, and burning myself with molten sugar Grin

teaandcake22 · 08/06/2021 20:05

This place is in New York. I went years ago and it was amazing, one for the list!

This is so weird but I love it Grin. Hope you find somewhere, OP.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 08/06/2021 20:09

Pollen Street Social have a dessert bar where you can do just that. Watch the chef make your dessert and then sit at the bar and eat it. You can even talk to them about how they make it (or at least, you could before Covid).

If it's a kink as we suspect, the OP may enjoy that. Grin
