So annoyed why do people do this sort of thing ?

Booked a cleaner to start this week, she messaged yesterday to confirm and her address etc.

Told me she does covid tests x2 a week

She didn’t turn up ….. then messaged to say she hadn’t had her covid test result (lateral flow takes 39 mins?) that she would be here as soon as had her result ….
Didn’t turn up i messaged to see what was happening ….
Nothing ….

This has happened before that I’ve booked a cleaner and they text just after the arrival time to cancel ? I’m fed up of it and today has really annoyed me.

The address not her address !

The lateral flow tests work within 10 mins, she's having you on, get someone else!

Inthesameboatatmo · 08/06/2021 17:14

I've had to get rid of my cleaner and am looking for another one.
She would turn up last minute or not at all ,or would say can I come tomorrow, just unreliable really.

That’s what I thought up to 30 mins ….. why confirm yesterday then say about tests today ? Just seems really odd 😞

So annoying and frustrating!

covetingthepreciousthings · 08/06/2021 17:19

Unless she meant she had to have a PCR test and was waiting for results from that?

I think she's having you on though.

She told me she tests twice a week I assumed lateral flow as I said we would all do ours as usual on Sunday night but maybe she meant pcr she said she does then routinely to be covid safe for work

I just wonder what she would gain from confirming a job then not bothering 🤷‍♀️

OK, as a cleaner a few things spring to mind.

Either the time didn't suit, amount of time given, pay, or and don't take this the wrong way but your house, that's if she viewed.

Or would the house be occupied while she would be working.

Those are the reasons I would have to not go ahead.

I don’t think it could be the time or pay as she told me when she could come and told me her rate which was fine

The house would have had just me and the babies there but she had said this was fine when arranging and then she was eager yesterday to confirm so I’m not really sure.

The house is nothing awful yet nothing special just a very average terrace but this has happened with other cleaners before so I do wonder …

And they also cancelled just after the arranged start time 🤔 I feel like did they get here and not like the look ?? But it’s nothing terrible just a very average boring house

My lateral flow tests say 30 minutes so that part is believable.

Yes but she knew what time we had booked so surely would have done her test at least 30 mins before and had a result not text me just after the start time to say she was waiting for her covid test results to come through ?

Tootsey11 · 08/06/2021 20:39

Maybe just text and ask is she still interested. Ask for a straight answer, yes or no.

Well when I text about possibly rescheduling she’s just totally ignored me so I’m assuming it’s a no. I’ll get over it it’s just frustrating

Lateral flow tests can take up to an hour (no eating or drinking for 30mins before, 30mins for the test to run)

Purpleweeks · 08/06/2021 21:09

Lateral flow tests can be easily planned around commitments so no reason for her to need to wait for results. She may need to wait for results if she had to have a pcr but she should have informed you before if she had to wait for pcr results. The fact that she isn't getting back to you now, suggests she just decided for whatever reason she didn't want the job or something else came up that she didn't want to tell you about.

ExD1938 · 08/06/2021 21:18

Did she see your house before she accepted the job?
Either was it sounds as though she's changed her mind, and anyway, if she's this unreliable at the start it doesn't look positive for the future does it?
Start looking for a new one (I know they're hard to find) but she's shown a poor attitude towards reliability. Hardly a good way to start a new job, far too casual.

ExD1938 · 08/06/2021 21:18

*either WAY

No she didn’t visit just details over text She text to confirm yesterday and seemed really keen so somethings happened !

Bottlefeeding · 09/06/2021 10:21

I text again this morning saying I hoped the results had been ok and did she want to reschedule just in case there had been a genuine problem but I’m just getting ignored so will leave it.
Not sure why people do things like this seems so rude

Maybe if she hasn't seen the house she's just worked out the transport?
But yes annoying. The being messed about is what puts me off getting a cleaner even though we could really do with o e!

SquirrelFan · 09/06/2021 10:49

This is why we have a cleaning service. Sends the same person every time (lovely) and if she can't make it, we get a call from the manager--if we have an issue (like rescheduling due to self-isolating or whatever) we talk to the manager. They are insured and send a replacement if our regular person can't come. Nobody's feelings get hurt. It costs more but it's reliable and professional. Also when we hired someone independently years ago, it felt like I was paying her to stand around for ages telling me about her personal problems. We were not friends!
