Best suncream for all day at school?

CantEnjoySummer · 06/06/2021 21:28

Last year we used Boots Once a day.

No sunburn but turned all polo and summer dress collars yellow. And DC looked greasy all day.

Any good alternatives now that the sunny weeks are upon us please?

P20 is the best here and we have a ginger majority family. Does turn whites yellow so we apply before we get dressed so it's dry.

Dustyhedge · 06/06/2021 21:43

I’ve found bad yellowing with P20 as well. I wish they’d just let us take in some bloody cream. My daughter does this at summer camp and it perfectly capable of reapplying with supervision. She’s at school until 6 and isn’t allowed to take cream. It is a real bugbear of mine.

We've been using the calypso one this last week, no yellow stains so far. It's worked well too. £5 in Home Bargains!

After years of being a P20 fan I discovered Calypso is just as good and a fraction of the price

CantEnjoySummer · 06/06/2021 21:56

Ah thanks! Good to hear about Calypso. Have been looking at it on Amazon.

£7ish on there but still a good price if it works. Will order.

Altruist. You can buy on amazon. It’s the best around and cheap.

Have had a look but it says to reapply every 2-3 hours.

Looks good for a non all day option though.

I have found Tesco does a good own brand one. No stains.

Lolapusht · 06/06/2021 22:35

Ultrasun. Never had a problem with it and we only apply once a day. Good range of options (50 spf for kids...sensitive...sports gel...”normal” etc). They also do brilliant facial sun block which is non-greasy so you can use it as a sun protection under normal make-up or moisturiser.

101spacehoppers · 06/06/2021 22:38

We live on the Med with ginger kids and I second calypso or ultrasun. Neither go yellow. Ultrasun has a nicer texture but not sure it's worth the difference in ££.

I like the adult calypso which is an alcohol based gel and non greasy (the 4yo hates this though and says it stings).

AmyandPhilipfan · 06/06/2021 23:34

I’ve used Calypso once a day on my fair skinned kids for about 5 years now and they’ve never gone even the slightest bit pink in the sun while wearing it.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 06/06/2021 23:46

We always sent £££ on ultrasun on mils 'my grandchildren could never wear cheap stuff as its not as good' recommendation. But I agree with pp's. Calypso is just as good. Saved us a fortune over the years!

Treaclepie19 · 07/06/2021 06:55

Can I jump in? With ultrasun do they do a 50+ spf that is once a day? I couldn't see one.

ultrablue · 07/06/2021 08:36

Another vote for Calypso from me

A few different options here

Boots soltan. The normal ones. I’m not sure the once a day ones are that effective and the British association of dermatologists say they should still be reapplied regularly. So you may as well get normal ones and do without the extra grease.

Boots Soltan does a stick sun cream which is perfect for kids to put on their faces and arms if needed. No mess at all as it’s solid.

Calypso for us too, only one that doesnt go yellow, its a bit harsh but really does lat all day.

Lalliebelle · 08/06/2021 08:31

Yet another purchase on the recommendation of MNers! Thank you, Calypso on its way Grin

TooStressyTooMessy · 08/06/2021 21:06

Can I also jump in, I used to use the Tesco all day one and they have stopped selling it online. Does anyone know if they sell it in the shops still?

I too would much rather them use the normal suncream and reapply regularly but I know this doesn’t often happen at school.

StrangeAddiction · 08/06/2021 21:19

Ds2 is a right pain for burning!

We've previously used Aldi's spray lotion and always been ok but we are in the north east so not always nice weather!

Sil used P20 on him a few years ago when they were on a day out at the beach and he burnt.

This past week has been lovely and I've bought Bondi Sands to try. Unfortunately a week ago he went out all day on his bike and didn't apply any lotion (I was out) and burnt again so has been wearing long sleeves during the holidays. His face and ears have been ok with the Bondi Sands so far.

TooYoungToNotice · 08/06/2021 21:21

Calypso (but we only use the once a day one) or P20. My husband is very fair with red hair and never burns with either. They've revolutionised summer and holidays for us and are a god send.

We do get yellowed clothes from both tho.

Verite1 · 08/06/2021 21:27

Ultra sun for us.

bookh · 08/06/2021 21:28

Can I just ask with calypso is it 40 you are all using? I can't see a once a day 50. I ruined a large amount of children's clothes last week with child's farm factor fifty.
