Best suncream for all day at school?

Last year we used Boots Once a day.

No sunburn but turned all polo and summer dress collars yellow. And DC looked greasy all day.

Any good alternatives now that the sunny weeks are upon us please?

Calypso once a day!.

Misspacorabanne · 08/06/2021 21:30

@bookh yes I use the all day 40 calypso. So far so good, but I do reapply it!

bookh · 08/06/2021 21:31

@Misspacorabanne thank you.

Lancrelady80 · 08/06/2021 21:48

Calypso once a day 40 here too. Allow lots of time to dry before dressing. We use the alcohol based one for adults too, which is great as I hate the feel of normal suncream.

cadburyegg · 09/06/2021 16:50

Thanks for this thread - just ordered some Calypso. DS1 takes in suncream but never remembers to apply it and it seems school don't remind them

cappuccinoandcats · 09/06/2021 17:01

Sports day yes but would not use for an average school day. I think kids need sunlight after the poor start to summer

mygee · 09/06/2021 17:29

We use Malibu if we need it to last all day- there's a factor 50 clear spray which is good but you can smell the alcohol in it, and it can sting a bit if you have a graze/ spot/ bite etc. We always put that one on before dressing just because of the way it feels so I don't know if it's make clothes yellow.

Then we have a factor 30 cream spray which feels nicer on the skin and smells better. I've applied that after dressing and never noticed any yellow stains.

Both less than £5 from home bargains.

shouldistop · 09/06/2021 17:53

P20 is great. Just make sure you let it dry for 20 minutes before dressing.

SlugsAreBastards · 09/06/2021 17:59

I never put sun cream on mine at school. Just made sure they had sun hats. They’re not outside for more than 30 minutes at a time are they, unless they’re doing sports day? They need some sun to make vitamin D.

shouldistop · 09/06/2021 18:05

@SlugsAreBastards just now schools and nurseries are spending a lot more time outdoors.

BlueCherryBlossom · 09/06/2021 18:13

P20, hands down.

NotATreacleTart · 09/06/2021 18:15

We use Ultrasun, we use it in Florida as a once a day, we did top up but then it is Florida so you sweat, a lot.

I burn very easily and had a basal cell carcinoma removed from my face so always apply Ultrasun factor 50. They have a tinted face one so adds a bit of a glow too.

Children do spend more time outdoors than you think in primary school, we have had them running round the playground looking up maths questions or doing their writing work outside on the school field rather than closed inside a classroom (all pre-covid) so don't just think it is play times and lunch only.

PawsQueen · 09/06/2021 18:17

@SlugsAreBastards but some people need sun cream for that 30 mins! I burn within 10 mins when the UV is 6-7

Delatron · 09/06/2021 18:35

I guess it depends on the kids but vitamin D is so important. I don’t apply for a normal school day but would for a sports day or sports camp. They are outside for such a small part of the day and this is the first sunshine we’ve had after a dreary May.

If mine were very fair I’d probably be more careful though.

Delatron · 09/06/2021 18:36

If they were spending hours outside doing lessons I would.

SpnBaby1967 · 09/06/2021 18:37

@ultrablue

Another vote for Calypso from me
Another vote from me too. Doesnt turn anything yellow, cheaper & just as good.
shivawn · 09/06/2021 18:42

Used to use P20 when I was fruit picking in Australia and never burned, would avoid wearing white. Have used Calypso too but didn't find it as good, it's fine but I would definitely not be able to go the day without reapplying.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 09/06/2021 18:47

Using wilko factor 50 sensitive skin for ds at the moment
Smother him while he's naked let it dry then he gets dressed . No yellowing so far
It's not once a day but he wears a cap and at school only their forearms and shins are exposed really if they keep their hat on .
Remember the ears!

tabctrlnoanykey · 09/06/2021 18:58

Altruist by far.

horsemadgal · 09/06/2021 22:39

@TooStressyTooMessy

Can I also jump in, I used to use the Tesco all day one and they have stopped selling it online. Does anyone know if they sell it in the shops still?

I too would much rather them use the normal suncream and reapply regularly but I know this doesn’t often happen at school.

I haven't been able to find the all day one in my Tesco this year either, such a shame as found it really good last year. I just got the aerosol one instead, it's really good as it sprays nicely and not in cloggy spurts Smile
TooStressyTooMessy · 09/06/2021 22:53

Thanks horsemadgal, I think they have stopped making it Sad.

sherrystrull · 09/06/2021 23:09

We've used the once a day soltan for a few years. It used to stain clothes horribly but doesn't do that anymore I've found. It also absolutely lasts all day.

Aalvarino · 09/06/2021 23:15

Another non-suncreamer for schooldays here. Mine aren't particularly fair- skinned though. If they were I might do different. Always suncream when full body out for hours at a time though... burning is clearly a bad idea....
