AIBU to think it's stupid to get a husky if you live in a city centre two bedroom apartment?

Because that's what my dickhead neighbours have done. Tiny wee flats, no garden, and they've got this frigging massive animal they let run around the fucking car park and on the scarce little bit of green space in front of the flats. This isn't ok is it? Not in terms of dog or other residents? Please tell me I'm not wrong.

I live in a detached house and DH and I both run. I still wouldn't have been able to give a husky enough. And I reeeeaaaaally wanted one. They are arseholes.

My wager is that it will be one very unhappy dog. Huskies need loads of exercise and are very vocal, highly strung dogs. It will probably become very, very anxious and stressed.

You are not wrong. I live in a two bedroom 8th floor apartment. We have a very small poodle cross. It works ok as he does not need much exercise and is small.

A husky would be insane and cruel.

Yes I think it's cruel too. We're not supposed to have dogs in these flats at all but housing association has been turning a blind eye to the toy ones and pugs and that. Personally I don't think they should have done because a flat is no place for a dog and there's an increasing problem with mess but you know people go a bit daft on pets and don't consider the animals or other people and that's how it seems to be. But a fucking husky is taking the piss.

Speaking as 'housing' we don't turn a blind eye but we wouldn't broadcast what we're doing. And eventually we have to decide if we end someone's tenancy, putting them into a really bad housing situation (maybe homelessness), because they refuse to rehome the dog. Would you?

Well I don't know but I think it's a bit of a fucked up situation where you've got animals that shouldn't be there being miserable and other residents worried about huskies running round the shop. Really it's better if people just don't act like twats and don't do stupid stuff like getting a fucking husky when they live in a two bedroom city centre flat. But then when they see other people having dogs that shouldn't, and nothing gets done about it, I guess there's no incentive not to, if they're dicks and don't care that it's a completely stupid thing to do.

I work in housing but not a housing association so it's my illiteracy rather than yours.

And I haven't changed my tune, I'm just explaining that your HA might not be turning a blind eye so much as not able to enforce without evicting. Believe me I've spent this week begging and pleading tenants to not have three bloody cats pooing all over the shop and the sodding off lead dog running about and the piles of poo. It's a nightmare for tenants. And the "unfixed staffy" someone has reported. And they all think we do nothing. It's half my job at the moment.

We've tried everything I can think of. And unfortunately it's the lovely tenants who ask and are turned down who would probably be excellent pet owners. And you do get soft staff who are 'being nice' and make it worse allowing smaller pets. Pet rabbits crapping on the slide anyone? I'm not even joking.

Quite a rare husky that is good off lead ime.. Maybe it will run and keep running. Report to the HA op.
Our Husky can do 10 mile walks and not flinch
Daily walks.
Poor thing.

But yes very cruel to the dog, I almost got a husky but the sheer volume of exercise they require put me off. I can’t imagine they’ll have to dog for long if they’re letting it roam around non it’s own.

We have a husky and also a malamute. But we have acres of land, live directly on an almost deserted beach (and dogs are allowed on the beach). Huskies are bred for speed and malamutes for stamina. Our husky needs hours of exercise a day. Even more than our Mal. Our husky can climb trees, jump fences, open doors. They are not called “escape artists” for nothing. We rescued both of our dogs from people who had no idea how to care for northern dogs. I’d take that one as well, OP, if I were closer.

Poor poor dog.

My old neighbors had one. The dog usually stayed outside, was often seen wandering around the neighborhood on its own (it was a safe place for the dog plus it never did anyone any harm). Still our neighbor would go on walks with it for hours otherwise it would purposely destroy things out of frustration as it had a lot of energy.
Seems madness to me to get one in a tiny flat, they will soon regret it and the poor animal will probably be dumped somewhere by them. Some people

Our neighbours (apartment building) acquired a German Sheppard pup. It lasted about a month. They were letting it pee on the balcony etc. Just not on. Pretty much everyone in the building was up in arms.

And even our tiny dog would be unhappy except our apartment is over 1500 square feet and there is quite a long hallway he loves to chase his thrown toys down. And he doesn't make much noise doing so.
