Does everyone know this? Or just me who didn't know?

If you get your dirtiest, greasiest most burnt oven shelves and stick them in some grass cuttings overnight, you can wipe them clean the next day!!!

WTF!

I did it yesterday thinking it was some sort of late April Fools Joke. But ... IT WORKS!!!

Anyone else not know?

Does it have to be fresh grass cuttings?

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/06/2021 08:30

It's in Nancy Birtwistle's Clean and Green book. I may try it too.

Twoforthree · 03/06/2021 08:32

Does it have to be grass cuttings? Can I just leave them on the lawn overnight?

Whereismymojo · 03/06/2021 08:32

What?!!!

ChicChaos · 03/06/2021 08:38

Isn't it the moisture that cleans them, not the grass itself? I saw this tip years ago in the original Flylady book.

NoMoreHGTVPlease · 03/06/2021 09:00

Utterly random. How was that discovered? Frustration at cleaning the oven so yeet it into the garden, then calm down the next day, go back out shamefully to collect said oven glass and.. oh my goodness, its clean!?!

LaTomatina · 03/06/2021 09:03

Wow!!!!

SinkGirl · 03/06/2021 09:04

Our lawn needs mowing - can I just lob them out into the lawn? 😬

RampantIvy · 03/06/2021 09:05

I didn't know this. I will keep the cuttings from my next mowing.

BeastOfBODMAS · 03/06/2021 09:08

I never thought to do this with an oven, but when camping I have always boiled up some grass to clean the pans. Can’t recall where I learned this

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/06/2021 09:12

Well I didn't tell you because I didn't know.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 03/06/2021 09:15

I'm gonna try this - but it's only for the racks right? Not the inside?

kittie01 · 03/06/2021 09:19

Wth! I’m going to try this, sounds odd but if it works

RedSquirrelsAreAwesome · 03/06/2021 09:49

This is mad 😂
Would this work for a barbecue grill too?!

knittingaddict · 03/06/2021 09:55

Putting them in a large sink or container overnight with biological washing powder works brilliantly. More convenient too, but not so environment friendly.

thereisonlyoneofme · 03/06/2021 10:04

Well I wish Id know before I had the garden slated last week

Drybird2020 · 03/06/2021 10:18

I'm cutting the grass today so will try this and report back.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/06/2021 10:26

Wow. I cut the grass the other day so have a bin (council provided garden waste bin for the benefit of the sustainability police) full of cuttings, I could just lob all the racks in there. Must remember to remove them before it gets emptied though.

VeganVeal · 03/06/2021 10:46

Someone came around last week and told you how crap your garden looked?

How rude

BlueDucky · 03/06/2021 10:49

Who discovered this?

NoProblem123 · 03/06/2021 10:51

Mind Blown !

Gonna try this later (with all my burnt pans !)

EBearhug · 03/06/2021 10:53

Who discovered this?
Someone after a barbecue, I reckon.

AngusThermopyle · 03/06/2021 10:55

This is interesting.
Is it to do with heat?
I know when i pile 3-4 mowing containers into our compost heap it gets very warm.

bookworm20 · 03/06/2021 10:57

Never heard of this before. Will definitely be trying it.

Wondering if I can just lob a load into the actual oven Grin

BrightYellowDaffodil · 03/06/2021 11:04

Does it work on oven doors? I can't see through mine...
