“England’s NHS plans to share patient records with third parties
55m patients have until June 23 to opt out of having their health data scraped into a new database”
🙄😤
So they want to sell our data without our consent because we are automatically opted in.
Who are they selling it to and what are they doing with it and why is anyone’s guess.
I’m opting out as soon as I have a minute to sort out the opt out form - I’m angry that I have to waste my time to opt out of something I never opted in and my data is going to be sold to random 3rd party. Regardless whether the data is going to be anonymised, the whole thing is plain wrong.

NHS Privatisation is well and truly here.

Yeah that’s bs. I actually don’t have an issue having my anonymised records shared for research/planning purposes but that’s my limit and I’ll be opting out now.

I’m Hmm at ‘publicising through flyers in GP surgeries’ - those places we’ve been actively discouraged from going in for over a year?!?

blobblob · 30/05/2021 20:30

How do you opt out?

Boopear · 30/05/2021 20:32

Opt out: digital.nhs.uk/services/national-data-opt-out

CheeryTreeBlossom · 30/05/2021 20:34

For anyone over 13 you can use this link to opt out:
your-data-matters.service.nhs.uk/

Otherwise it's a printed form to your GP.

colouringcrayons · 30/05/2021 20:35

Oh FFS. Thanks for the link.

VaccineSticker · 30/05/2021 20:36

@Boopear the opt out that you linked is not the one the article is talking about. That’s an opt for something else. The article includes a link for a form to use to give to your GP to opt out. I can’t believe how hard they are making this for us.

This the link to opt out. The one that’s been mentioned above is for something else.

I clicked on this linked and it seemed to be an opt in rather than opt out. Anyone else have this?
Boopear · 30/05/2021 20:40

Thanks. I'll hunt down the form...Angry

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 30/05/2021 20:42

Is it just NHS England that are doing this or all UK countries?

randomkey123 · 30/05/2021 20:42

I was able to opt out using that link. What a crock of shit, that's dreadful that they're selling this data.

feellikeanalien · 30/05/2021 20:43

This is seriously out of order. I would bet most people don't even know about it. Surely it has to be a breach of GDPR. Any data which relates to health would be classified as Special Category Data and the NHS would almost certainly need consent to share this with a third party.

I am clearly missing something here as it seems to be a blatant breach and I can't believe they would risk prosecution.

Seems perfectly reasonable, they are desperately underfunded and selling datasets will generate income. If you think this is what “privatisation” looks like you’re going to be in for a nasty shock when the real thing hits.

Maybe we should find them properly then Confused

FUND sorry

It is also happening in Scotland. This is a link to the form needed.

Icepops · 30/05/2021 20:50

I am confused. I filled out the online form which they said was only for anonymized data. Is there another online form to opt out too?

VaccineSticker · 30/05/2021 20:52

Yes, @Icepops
One is for GP sharing info with third parties :
nhs-prod.global.ssl.fastly.net/binaries/content/assets/website-assets/data-and-information/data-collections/general-practice-data-for-planning-and-research/type-1-opt-out-form.docx

And one for the National data base sharing your info. your-data-matters.service.nhs.uk/

OP posts:
VaccineSticker · 30/05/2021 20:54

The GP form needs printing out or emailing to the GP, making opting out much harder...

OP posts:
Menora · 30/05/2021 20:54

It is anonymised data
For research and planning purposes

They aren’t selling it to PPI firms

I haven’t had chance to look at the form yet but ‘anonymised’ is a very wide net. On your street how identifiable do you think you are if your anonymised data was sorted by postcode, birth date, sex and a random piece of medical history. For example the year I gave birth along with my postcode, date of birth and sex would make me if not immediately identifiable one of a couple.
Cornettoninja · 30/05/2021 21:00

They’ve stated commercial companies, they’re not going to decide on a case by case basis who gets to buy it are they? I’m pretty certain that would be highlighted. Insurance companies would love the chance to get their hands on this kind of information.
MintyMabel · 30/05/2021 21:01

Surely it has to be a breach of GDPR. Any data which relates to health would be classified as Special Category Data and the NHS would almost certainly need consent to share this with a third party.

Not if it is anonymised.

MintyMabel · 30/05/2021 21:02

They’ve stated commercial companies

So they can target GP practices and the NHS. Not so they can target individual patients.
