WWYD, Strange Comings and goings

I live on a 'private' new build estate, private land which has not been handed over to highways and maintained by a management company that all residents pay for. Disclaimer: I'm not a snob honest!

Lived here for 5 years with no issues. Over the last 3 weeks I've noticed a car park outside my house (against covenants as parked on pavement, but this is generally ignored by all so 🤷🏼‍♀️). The car pulls up at 11pm ish and then driver and passengers park I and bundle into a second car and drive off , not parking up elsewhere. Around 1 pm the second car returns and the reverse happens. Day in day out. One if these cars is untaxed. Last night one if the cars returned with a new car in convoy, new car parks up and 4 people get out, all including g the driver are inhaling 'balloons', then they transfer to the other 2 cars. Rinse and repeat.

WWYD? Its annoying me, I pay my tax etc, dont drug drive etc... It's also taking up any visitor parking. Honestly dont want to come across stuck up but getting right up my nose and I cant explain why?! I'm getting old!

There's not really anything you can do. You can report the car as untaxed but it won't stop them doing what they're doing, you can report them for drug driving if you provide the number plate but that won't stop them doing what they're doing. You could go to court to request an injunction against them going onto private property but I doubt you'd get it and it's very lengthy and expensive.

Cockenspiel · 28/05/2021 21:59

Sorry if I’ve misunderstood.. But a car pulls up and parks (outside your house) with people in. They all get out and get into a second car that had just pulled up nearby and all drive off for a couple of hours till they return, then they all drive away? What do you mean inhaling balloons? Confused

Custardo · 28/05/2021 21:59

they are inhaling Nitrous Oxide by the sounds of it - this is police issue it doesnt matter about highways and covenants -report it

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 28/05/2021 22:03

Yes, nitrous oxide.

I'm thinking theres little we can do....

Basically one car pulls up at 11pm parks up , everyone piles into car number 2 and drives off (not up the road but off the estate), then at 1pm car 2 pulls up and the reverse happens. However yesterday we also had car 3 and the balloons

QuestionableMouse · 28/05/2021 22:08

Report it to the police.

toocold54 · 28/05/2021 22:10

The only thing I can think is it’s a group of friends who meet up half way and just go in one car instead of 2 separate ones. I assume it’s the untaxed car they leave which would be ‘smart’ if they are driving around and scoring drugs in the middle of the night.

OhRene · 28/05/2021 22:14

If you don't want to be reporting them for possible drug driving, (but you should) just stick a sign at the bottom of your garden saying CCTV in operation.
They'll pick a new place sharpish.

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 28/05/2021 22:17

OhRene, I have CCTV that's how I know all of this! Apart fr all the shouting and door slamming (doesn't bother me overly, just aware theyve rocked up), cameras are obvious....

OP posts:
OhRene · 28/05/2021 22:19

Maybe you should still put a sign up, right beside where they park. And if you have cctv of them inhaling balloons then give it to the police. They know when and where these guys will be, it's an easy win for the coppers.

quizqueen · 28/05/2021 22:21

How do you know a car isn't taxed when no tax disc has to be displayed nowadays, out of interest?

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 28/05/2021 22:23

@quizqueen you can check for valid not and tax online these days 😉

Get the management company involved. They should report the untaxed car and report the drug driving to the police. That's what they are there for - to manage issues on the development.
I'd also report myself direct or through crime stoppers. The more complaints then better.
Anybody got it on their cctv/Ring doorbell.
Once they know the police are involved it will stop and they will go elsewhere - they won't want to be 'done'.

Custardo · 28/05/2021 22:25

well you can tlook up the reg - which is what one woud do if they were bothered

so if you are bothered - which you are - call the police

StoneofDestiny · 28/05/2021 22:25

I should say untaxed cars are usually taken away by the police - that might shift them elsewhere pdq

motogogo · 28/05/2021 22:25

If untaxed report. You can also report for antisocial behaviour but they might not be interested

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 28/05/2021 22:26

@OhRene, you'd think so but its probably class rather minor in comparison to other crimes nowadays, i was thinking it was all a little strange up until now but the NO inhaling has irked me...

OP posts:
OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 28/05/2021 22:26

Unless they are balloon modelists 🤷🏼‍♀️

Haudyourwheesht · 28/05/2021 22:53

I thought nitrous oxide was legal?

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 28/05/2021 22:55

Nitrous oxide might be a legal high, so is alcohol. How is it legal to drive under the influence????

OP posts:
OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 28/05/2021 22:57

The driver was using, pulled up with it in his mouth and reparked it whilst inhaling. Sounds far fetched but cctv doesn't lie.

Walkingthealleyway · 28/05/2021 23:00

It does sound very strange. Can you speak to your local PCSO?

We had a similar situation a couple of years ago, only it was happening during the day. A couple of cars would park up in our road, the occupants would get out and then disappear up the alleyway opposite my house and then about 15 mins later they’d come back and drive off. This went on for several weeks, started off once every two weeks to almost everyday with another car’s occupants and a pedestrian sometimes joining them. I spoke to the local PCSO and he said he’d look into it, I never heard back from him but the people disappeared shortly after that.

Haudyourwheesht · 29/05/2021 06:52

Sorry, I wasn't considering the driver aspect, although it won't be illegal for the passengers. I was just wondering if I'd misunderstood. Our local park quite often has little piles of canisters.

Wigglegiggle0520 · 29/05/2021 07:06

If you don’t want to call police directly submit an anon crime stoppers log every time it happens. Include descriptions and registrations of the vehicles.

StoneofDestiny · 29/05/2021 07:11

Have you reported them yet? With registration numbers of all cars, and timings of comings and going's, the police will find it easy to investigate.
