How gorgeous! I’ve seen them once or twice but not often at all. It’s beautiful.

Blackkswann · 27/05/2021 20:24

Oops didn’t mean to add the picture twice!

I love them! Is that Wroxham?!

spanieleyes · 27/05/2021 20:25

They are native to Australia but some now live wild

Thingsthatgo · 27/05/2021 20:28

This reminds me of many years ago (I was 18). I was on a boat trip in Perth, Australia. The guide pointed out a black swan and told everyone that South West Australia was the only place in the world where you could find black swans. I was pretty surprised to hear that, and told him we saw them all the time in Norfolk! He looked really embarrassed, and said that was the only other place in the world you could find black swans! Hmm

Happycat1212 · 27/05/2021 20:29

Wow I’ve never seen one

Muddywoof · 27/05/2021 20:29

You can see a lot of black swans in Dawlish in Devon. They're lovely.

Cherrysherbet · 27/05/2021 20:30

I've never seen one! Beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 27/05/2021 20:31

I saw some in Victoria (Ballarat)

BipolarSunset · 27/05/2021 20:31

We had one round where we live. Unfortunately the white swans took a huge dislike and kept trying to attack him Shock

HannaHat · 27/05/2021 20:39

Aww lovely, I’ve never seen one before.

DD and I saw a pair doing their 'mating dance' right next to our boat when we went on the Broads a few years ago. The thing where they mirror each other, making heart shapes with their necks, very graceful - until they're ready for Mr Swan to board Mrs Swan which is less dignified.Grin

We used to have two pairs of them on the lake at the farm where we had a shoot. Unfortunately the local otters found them and killed two of them. We found them stuffed under tree roots on the edge of the river. And they killed most of the carp in the lake. We kept finding big dead carp with one or two big bites out of them. Otters are lovely but they don’t half do some damage.

Oh sorry. Blush I’m still cross about it and it happened years ago!

Faranth · 27/05/2021 21:42

I used to work at a garden centre with a big pond, there was a black swan that lived there. He was lovely, would come to his name being called.

We had a particularly cold winter one year and the pond froze for weeks, we used to lean out the cafe windows (only way to reach the water) to break the ice for him.

Pinkylemons · 27/05/2021 21:45

We have quite a few at our local park. A few years back there were only 2 but now there are a lot more. They’re beautiful aren’t they!

Blossomplease6 · 27/05/2021 21:48

There’s some in st James park in london

Candyapple49 · 27/05/2021 21:50

There are lots in Leeds Castle , Kent . The last owner introduced them and they are beautiful .

Pinkylemons · 27/05/2021 21:50

@MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig - an otter got in my friends pond and emptied it of all but 5 of her 20 + year old koi carp. He ripped them up all over the garden. There must have been 30/40 huge koi. The only upside was her favourite one was spared. She put an electric fence all round the pond and then her favourite fish decided to jump out of the pond and hit the fence 😞

k1233 · 27/05/2021 21:51

We used to have them nest on our dam in rural Qld

MayflowerMaisie · 27/05/2021 21:53

Seen them down in Dawlish, in Devon. Beautiful!

OhGodNotThisAgain · 27/05/2021 21:54

Beautiful swan. I’ve never seen one before.

The most unusual bird I’ve seen at the duck pond is a Muscovy duck. He’s just there randomly living with the normal ducks. I wonder how he ended up there.
