There is one in Wanstead London that has been around for a few months - must be the most photographed swan in the UK!

HoollyWugger · 27/05/2021 21:57

I've seen them at Trentham Gardens, Staffs.

HoollyWugger · 27/05/2021 21:58

The Muscovy ducks originated from escaped domestic ducks apparently.

TheTempest · 27/05/2021 22:00

Eastbourne? We have one here at the moment, princes park but he/she goes to Hampden park and shine water lake too 😍

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 27/05/2021 22:05

Black swans are an Australian species & have been introduced here.
They don't do particularly well, often get persecuted by native swans & don't really thrive in our climate unless in a place where they are reliably fed in winter.

@Pinkylemons otter numbers have risen so much since they were bred in captivity to be released back into the wild. The only trouble is they’re voracious predators but they have no natural predator of their own so they absolutely decimate the ecosystem.

Fl0w3r · 27/05/2021 22:46

We have one in newstead abbey atm

MrsDThomas · 27/05/2021 22:48

Plenty of white ones but I have never seen a black one. Beautiful!

sbhydrogen · 27/05/2021 23:04

Wow wow wow! I've never seen one - thanks for sharing 😍

Thedogscollar · 27/05/2021 23:22

Beautiful. Never knew there were black swans. Lovely looking area wherever it is.

RogueV · 27/05/2021 23:26

Wow I’ve never seen one

GerundTheBehemoth · 27/05/2021 23:31

I read this the other day about a white black swan: www.abc.net.au/news/2021-05-08/injured-swan-found-shot-in-tasmanian-great-lakes/100119666

MustardRose · 28/05/2021 00:19

I saw one on the way home from work one day. My route takes me past a river in town that has loads of swans on it, and I thought one of them looked a bit different from all the others. It wasn't until I got home that it dawned on me that the reason it looked different was because it was black!

A real facepalm moment Grin

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/05/2021 00:26

We used to have a breeding pair that regularly came into our garden. One of my cats very briefly stalked them until the male hissed at him - never seen a cat move so quickly Grin.
OP - Is your photo at Laleham?

ScabbyHorse · 28/05/2021 00:27

YANBU

littlepattilou · 28/05/2021 00:27

@Blackkswann Oh how lovely. Never seen one in real life! Smile

Mydarlingmyhamburger · 28/05/2021 00:33

You can see them at around 200 places across the U.K. still striking when you see one for the first time

girlmama32 · 28/05/2021 00:53

Our local farm has one, it always makes me sad to see because it lives all by itself. They are really beautiful birds

user1473878824 · 28/05/2021 01:40

I love this thread! More swans please!!

I love otters and their little sleepy hand holds and then I remember the article I read about how one held a dog’s head under water and then had sex with it. Sorry.

Lizzie523 · 28/05/2021 01:42

I've only seen them in Retiro park in Madrid, a few live there. Stunning.

Tavannach · 28/05/2021 01:56

There’s at least one on the Long Water/Serpentine in Kensington Gardens this year. I’ve not seen it before. But there are crowds and crowds of swans there this year.

DFWM · 28/05/2021 02:03

Yes as a previous poster said, you find a lot of them in Dawlish, Devon. They are very beautiful! I love swans, from a distance anyway...the moody buggers!

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 28/05/2021 02:14

I've seen some (or maybe the same one on different stretches of the river) in Reading. They are beautiful.

I love otters. I didnt realise they were so violent though Shock

Ophanim · 28/05/2021 02:59

How spectacular!❤️

That's interesting. I'm in Aus and had no idea there were any black swans in England.

I think I've seen more black swans than white ones! From what I've observed, the black ones are a bigger bird than the white. I wonder if it's a whole different species or same species/different colour? Off to check!

Lovely pics OP
