WIBU to wear gym wear

MindTheBumps · 27/05/2021 12:45

We have dress down Friday every week in the office. Tomorrow I will be pushed for time between finishing work and getting to the gym.

WIBU to wear gym clothes in the office? Black lycra leggings and a Sport Bra with a T-shirt over.

I can't decide if it is acceptable or not, most people wear jeans which seems fine to me for casual Friday.

Depends on your role / client facing / expectations etc.

Dress down day in my office is definitely not gym wear. Just get changed before you leave. It takes what two minutes?

newnortherner111 · 27/05/2021 12:47

I think you are. Leggings are unsuitable as would be jogging bottoms. Jeans are different.

shouldistop · 27/05/2021 12:48

I wouldn't wear gym wear. Can you not get changed in the toilet?

PurpleDaisies · 27/05/2021 12:48

I wouldn’t. I think there’s a difference between work appropriate casual clothes and gym wear.

HeadNorth · 27/05/2021 12:51

Could you wear the sports bra & T shirt with jeans, so you just need to pull leggings on at the gym?

TedHastingsweeDonkey · 27/05/2021 12:51

We used to have dress down Fridays but sportswear wasn't acceptable. There's a difference between causal and gym wear IMHO so I wouldn't. Used to get changed before leaving the office.

This

reallyreallyborednow · 27/05/2021 12:56

No I wouldn’t.

It takes seconds to change trousers- sports bra and black t-shirt fine, just wear jeans and change into your leggings.

Malin52 · 27/05/2021 12:56

Um no. How long does it take to get changed into gym gear? 5 minutes?

Why not Wear sports bra under 'office casual' clothes: jeans, T-shirt or shirt. Go to loo at end of day take off jeans, put on leggings keep on tshirt from day. 1 minute tops.

AlmostSummer21 · 27/05/2021 12:57

Are you always so attention seeking?

HappyGoPlucky · 27/05/2021 12:58

Flummoxed as to how jeans are acceptable but sportswear isn't. Who makes up these random rules?
I'd wear smart sportswear - in New York yoga wear is like a universal uniform. Maybe take a change of clothes so, if it becomes apparent you've made some kind of bizarre misstep in the unspoken rules of dress down Friday, you can change? Confused
Maybe you'll start a trend and everyone will wear sportswear next Friday? Grin

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 27/05/2021 12:58

Put jeans over your leggings... How pushed for time will you be? Taking your jeans off and changing your shoes surely won't take long enough to make a difference to anything... Will you want to travel home after the gym sweaty with nothing to change into?

Obviously you can wear a sports bra any day you want...

soughsigh · 27/05/2021 12:58

We had dress down Fridays in an extremely active office. Working at your desk all sweaty while waiting to cool down after a run was acceptable... but sitting around in your clean gym clothes all day was not.

I would go for the quick jeans to leggings change in the toilet but personally wouldn't want to wear a sports bra all day!

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 27/05/2021 13:19

Our office has a guideline ‘ if you’d wear it to the gym or the beach don’t wear it to the office’

fairynick · 27/05/2021 13:24

I would wear the t shirt and leggings if they didn’t look too sporty, no nike swoosh on the leggings kind of thing, with different shoes. Then change trainers, would that be an option?

Are you always so rude?
MindTheBumps · 27/05/2021 13:30

I thought it would be inappropriate, will go with the suggestions of jeans and sports bra/T-shirt and chuck my leggings on in the gym.

Trainers are fine so that's not a problem.

I always travel home in my sweaty sports kit, I literally leave the gym and go home to shower and get comfy. Most people in my gym do this, its a small sweaty run down old school gym so the changing rooms leave a lot to be desired.

fruitbrewhaha · 27/05/2021 13:42

Would you not be uncomfortable in a sports bra all day? mine are quite firm hold. eg tight.

Could you get changed at work so as not to use the gyms changing room?

MindTheBumps · 27/05/2021 14:06

I find sport bras more comfortable than underwire bras, I was gutted coming back to the office and wearing normal bras again.

therocinante · 27/05/2021 14:45

Wouldn't be an issue in our office. Someone came in in a onesie once.

What a horrible thing to say.
LittleGwyneth · 27/05/2021 14:48

Would be fine anywhere I've worked.

Surely no one knows what bra you're wearing unless you wear see-through tops? So if a sports bra is more comfortable then just wear that

BobbinThreadbare123 · 27/05/2021 15:02

It'd be fine in my place. Nobody would bat and eye. Could put a hoody on over the top (it's still cold here!)
