WIBU to wear gym wear

MindTheBumps · 27/05/2021 12:45

We have dress down Friday every week in the office. Tomorrow I will be pushed for time between finishing work and getting to the gym.

WIBU to wear gym clothes in the office? Black lycra leggings and a Sport Bra with a T-shirt over.

I can't decide if it is acceptable or not, most people wear jeans which seems fine to me for casual Friday.

Well, presumably no one would see your sports bra, so definitely go in to work in that.
Do you have any nice joggers you could put on over your leggings for the office? You know, 'athleisure' rather than obviously sporty ones. Then take them off for the gym. I'd wear that with a nice hoodie or sweat top (probably not a logo one or anything that looked too scruffy).

@PurpleDaisies

I wouldn’t. I think there’s a difference between work appropriate casual clothes and gym wear.
Depends where you work, obviously. In my office gym wear would be fine. Anything short of actual pyjamas wouldn't be an issue.
Zealois · 27/05/2021 15:41

This really does depend on the office. In my office people often wear gym wear for the morning and change after they go to the gym at lunch. My office is extremely casual.

Divebar2021 · 27/05/2021 15:44

Well I wouldn’t in my office no but it would depend on how casual everyone else was. If other people wore holey jeans and flip flops then you could probably get away with it if the top half was longer and fairly neutral ( plain sweatshirt ). If it was more smarter jeans / shirts / blazers then I would say no. How about a jersey dress over the leggings with trainers then you just have to change into a T shirt?

Divebar2021 · 27/05/2021 15:45

What people wear in NYC really only matters in NYC.

misspattylacosta · 27/05/2021 15:54

It would be completely unacceptable in my office too.

"Jeans" can mean anything and everything. Camilla wearing jeans has a rather different look than one of the Kardashian wearing theirs Grin

MindTheBumps · 27/05/2021 15:55

It's quite split for fine and not fine.

Think I will go with T-shirt on top and jeans on bottom that's a good compromise. The leggings are Lycra so obviously gym wear but a T-shirt is just a T-shirt.

I will be vigilant to see what everyone else is wearing though for future reference.

@therocinante

Wouldn't be an issue in our office. Someone came in in a onesie once.
Just snorted at this!
IntermittentParps · 27/05/2021 16:08

therocinante, Grin Do you work at Perfect Curve from W1A?

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 27/05/2021 16:13

Hilarious

Hfjshdhs · 27/05/2021 16:16

I wear gym wear literally all the time, non stop (though exercise every day and have two kids so my excuse is that I need it on so I can go for a run as soon as I have the opportunity). However I was told off for wearing leggings into work on dress down day. I was super annoyed about it, they were Sweaty Betty power leggings so certainly not manky seethrough ones!

honeybuns007 · 27/05/2021 16:18

You can easily dress up leggings like this.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 27/05/2021 16:20

I’d go for plain black leggings and a baggy T shirt. Nothing too obviously sporty. That won’t stand out too much in the office and will also be OK for the gym. If jeans are OK then surely leggings are?

misspattylacosta · 27/05/2021 16:21

If jeans are OK then surely leggings are?
why? Confused

MiddlesexGirl · 27/05/2021 16:22

I'd like to know the magic that gets a sports bra on (or indeed off again) in seconds!

OrangeRug · 27/05/2021 16:24

We have casual dress Fridays too and I always wear gym wear - nice leggings and a vest top or loose gym top type thing.. Oh and I always wear sports bras or bralettes anyway. I dislike underwire bras. I'm really baffled at all the YABU votes.

SpacemanDad · 27/05/2021 16:25

Wear smart casual to work and take the time to change at work then run faster to get to the gym on time, win win all round ;)

BlackberrySky · 27/05/2021 16:26

It takes 2 minutes to change. Just do that before you leave the office.

That's quite impressive. OP could wear the whole gym shebang and just throw a longline blazer over the top!
MindTheBumps · 27/05/2021 16:29

That outfit looks smarter than me on a non casual day!

The sports bra wrangling is what takes the most time. Although comfy when on, getting into the things is a manoeuvre and a half.

I sometimes wear gym gear to work......normally if I've cycled in and can't be arsed to change. My manager is often in gym gear so don't think anyone cares!
