Dar Lee yah

ErrolTheDragon · 23/05/2021 16:21

'daahlia' sounds very hyacinth bouquet to me. Trying to sound posh but failing.
Afaik there's no derivation for the name other than the flower so it should be pronounced the same.

OverByYer · 23/05/2021 16:22

For a name Dar Lia
For a flower Day lia

Tal45 · 23/05/2021 16:27

Why would you pronounce the name differently from the flower it's from?
Day lia

Mydogisagentleman · 23/05/2021 16:29

Daily err

Toilenstripes · 23/05/2021 16:31

Dal yah

3CCC · 23/05/2021 16:32

Day Lee Ah

ShutUpAlex · 23/05/2021 16:32

My partner and I have only ever heard it pronounced Dah-lia, not day-lia.

It’s for a middle name, but we’re not sure if we want to use it if people would pronounce it daylia as we really don’t like that.

Dale-ya

ErrolTheDragon · 23/05/2021 16:34

How about Thalia? (Nicer flower too.Grin)

ILoveShula · 23/05/2021 16:34

Use Fuchsia instead. it's Fewsha not Fooks-ya.

Serpenta · 23/05/2021 16:36

As others have said one is British pronunciation and the other is American

Day-lee-ah - UK (eg. Bertie Wooster's Aunt Dahlia)

Dah-lee-ah - US (eg. The Black Dahlia)

andtheweedonkey · 23/05/2021 16:36

Day-lee-a.

PanamaPattie · 23/05/2021 16:37

Dar-lia, never heard the Day way.

How about Daisy instead?
Staffy1 · 23/05/2021 16:40

Day-Lia.

ForestYeti · 23/05/2021 16:40

Dar-lia

Doesn't this sound a bit like failure? Haha don't name a child that!
secretburper · 23/05/2021 16:42

My friends mum is Dah - lia

otterbaby · 23/05/2021 16:43

Dahhh-lia

@Namechangedlady I think that one is pronounced tall-lia?

allmycats · 23/05/2021 16:44

As others have said
Plant Dayleeah
Name Darleeah

Happyoldbat · 23/05/2021 16:49

I say Daylia for both plant and name, although I’ve only heard the name used for Bertie Wooster’s aunt. How about Zinnia? Everyone can pronounce that.

Babygotblueyes · 23/05/2021 16:49

But have always loved the other pronounciation.

Concestor · 23/05/2021 16:51

I've never heard it as a name, only as a plant. I'd think it rather an odd name especially pronounced "wrong".
