to want a 2 way zip?

I'm trying to buy a new waterproof jacket. The mountain walking kind. Since I last bought one, all the main manufacturers seem to have done away with two way zips. No use to me as I need extra room around the bum. (I'm short and wide and like to do things like ride a horse in it...).

AIBU to think I should be able to find this for less than £280?

I agree. I love a two way zip! They are essential IMO.

I had to wear a coat with a one way zip yesterday and it was rather snug over my coronavirarse.

Lands End still use them I think - the Expedition parka which I have (and is excellent) is on sale here

Rohan do them, so do Jack Wolfskin.

But decent mountain gear won't be cheap. £200-300 for a good quality waterproof is about right, really, as you want it to be waterproof to 20,000mm (the hydrostatic head) as otherwise it will leak after a while.

I used to sell them for a living so I'm a bit nerdy when it comes to waterproofs and outdoor clothing

I’ve got a winter coat from trespass with a two way zip - they might do a raincoat?

My winter coat is ancient but has a two way zip.

So far I have tried - Mountain Warehouse, Cotswold, Berghaus and Trespass...

Seems that 2 way zips on hip length coats are not popular at the moment...

I'm a dog walker and can wear mine all day and it's never let me down. I've had it six years now and it's still good as new. I wash it with Nikwax fairly regularly though - maybe every 6-8 weeks but I wear it daily.

Patagonia have 2 way zips. My winter coat would have been unwearable last year without it.

Unfortunately not, the entire zipper needs to be replaced which isn't cheap on a waterproof jacket - you're looking at around £40 minimum.

My regatta one is hip length with a 2 way zip.

Protected Species have recently done a version of their waterproof parka (and a jacket on another page) with a 2-way zip. It's not cheap though.

Actually the jacket doesn't seem to have the 2-way zip, only the parka. If you go for it, I'd size up, Protected Species cut for a athletic figure rather than a pear shape.
