Hello, Not aibu but hoping for a bit of help.

My dad went missing 22 years ago, no trace of him since.

What makes it a little complicated is he is from Paris, I was born in the UK, He came to the UK to visit me 22 years ago, then he was supposed to be travelling home to Paris, Nobody is sure if he made it home or if something happened to him in the Uk.

I recently found a picture of my dad with another man, and there is writing on the back of it but the writing has faded, At this point in time any info is better than no info.

Does anyone have any idea what is says? I'm seeing 'With a friend from Viet Nam' but that would make no sense!

Does anyone know what this says?

The only bit I can see looks like et nous which is french for and us. Or possibly and we if there is a verb after it

Youdontknowwhatyoureonabout · 07/05/2021 22:11

The t of the with isn’t like the ‘viet’ t. But it does look like viet -sorry no help.
If you take a photo of that and edit it darker does the writing show up better?

greymayday · 07/05/2021 22:11

I see exactly what you see OP. Does the man in the photo look like he could be from Vietnam?

Laiste · 07/05/2021 22:12

'With a friend from Viet Nam'

I see that too OP. Pretty clearly.

Hope you find what you're looking for Flowers

LubaLuca · 07/05/2021 22:12

It looks like 'With a friend from Wet Nain/Novin' to me. I'm no help, sorry.

CSIblonde · 07/05/2021 22:14

The top line looks like with a friend then an ink blur where a word was. The 2nd line looks like Vi et nous , 3 separate words . Are there any French missing person's websites you could post the pic on. Google search etc.

WinstonsWeirdVole · 07/05/2021 22:15

I see exactly what you see OP.

Me too OP - it definitely looks like that sentence in English (rather than anything in French)

I really hope you find some answers Flowers

Solasum · 07/05/2021 22:15

I think it says ‘with a friend .... et noir’

StoneofDestiny · 07/05/2021 22:16

With a friend from Viet Nam

ShagMeRiggins · 07/05/2021 22:17

I’m sorry you have endured/experienced the disappearance of your father. That must be incredibly difficult.

I’ve nothing to offer on the photo. Many possibilities and questions, but I won’t speculate. Flowers

Post on Reddit under missing persons. They'll be able to help!

FAQs · 07/05/2021 22:20

Have you got some tracing or baking paper where you can trace the letters with a pencil onto to make it a little clearer?

sherrystrull · 07/05/2021 22:20

Definitely looks like 'with a friend from Vietnam'

Newkitchen123 · 07/05/2021 22:20

The bit that I thought was nous could also be vous if its a v not an n
Also if its a v it could be voir which means to see
Not sure if any of that helps or makes it worse!

CSIblonde · 07/05/2021 22:24

ARPD.Fr. It's the French missing person's website. Good luck OP.

Em308 · 07/05/2021 22:27

Long shot but try shining a uv light on it.

Emmelina · 07/05/2021 22:28

I see what you see. Maybe the friend came from Vietnam, or he met someone there? Did he serve in the forces over there at some point? Maybe fellow military?

AnnaSW1 · 07/05/2021 22:33

I see with a friend from Viet nam too

Retrievemysanity · 07/05/2021 22:36

With a friend from Vietnam

StoneofDestiny · 07/05/2021 22:37

France and Vietnam had a strong link

Twinkie01 · 07/05/2021 22:39

I thought at Nous meant and we (from GCSE 100 years ago) would be weird to swap from English to french though.

Also strange that you'd not write Vietnam as one word.

speakout · 07/05/2021 22:41

"Viet Nam" spelling is used by the UN and the Vietnam government itself.

Monkeyrock · 07/05/2021 22:41

Why would it make no sense? “Viet Nam” is just a traditional/alternative way of writing Vietnam.

Although the i and e in 'friend' is also spaced out just like in Viet. I think it's just how the writer writes ie. with a relatively big space between.
