Hello, Not aibu but hoping for a bit of help.

My dad went missing 22 years ago, no trace of him since.

What makes it a little complicated is he is from Paris, I was born in the UK, He came to the UK to visit me 22 years ago, then he was supposed to be travelling home to Paris, Nobody is sure if he made it home or if something happened to him in the Uk.

I recently found a picture of my dad with another man, and there is writing on the back of it but the writing has faded, At this point in time any info is better than no info.

Does anyone have any idea what is says? I'm seeing 'With a friend from Viet Nam' but that would make no sense!

Of course Vietnam was a french colony at one point so lots of french people have connections there

Could he have served in the French army? Used to be obligatory for men. They might have some records on him and whether any connections to Vietnam.

Why would it make no sense?
If there’s another person in the photo it could easily say with a friend and he may have met them at Vietnam

yeah, 'with a friend from vietnam', and the printing says 'janvier (january) 1998'

Oh yes, it looks much clearer in that last image. 'With a friend from Viet Nam'.
