Parking

I have a ground floor flat with 2 allocated parking spaces. They are right outside the entrance to my flat/living room window. None of the bays are either marked with lines or have numbers. It really pisses me off when other people park there even though I usually only need 1 space. I feel like it’s the principle, because I pay for a larger 2 bed flat with 2 spaces - why should someone else get to use them? I have no problem if a neighbour asks or lets me know beforehand btw. It just really winds me up!!!!!

How will people know if they aren't marked?

SquirtleSquad · 03/05/2021 21:02

Are the people aware they're your spaces? Have you asked the management company or freeholder to mark the bays?

MarjorieBouvier · 03/05/2021 21:03

Then get a cone or bollard. People aren't telepathic. They won't know it's yours.

Sunny1112 · 03/05/2021 21:03

If they aren’t marked no one will know?
But if I had two spaces, only needed one, it wouldn’t bother me.
You only need one?

Planty13 · 03/05/2021 21:03

Uhh YABU if they aren’t marked. How can you possibly get annoyed? Go and mark them or ask for them to be marked.

Sirzy · 03/05/2021 21:05

Unless they are clearly marked then how can you expect people to know not to park there?

Still1nLove · 03/05/2021 21:09

Let me be the first to say, Penguin Bollard!

montessorinanny · 03/05/2021 21:11

If it is a problem park your car across both spaces. That way no one will be able to park in the extra space.

JohnNutLips · 03/05/2021 21:15

Thanks guys! I am prepared to hear that I am being unreasonable 😂 it’s a block of 8 flats on one side and none of the bays are marked - have tried without success to get bays and numbers painted. The block opposite is mixed 1 and 2 bed flat, some have 1 allocated space and some have none. The people parking there clearly know it isn’t their space. It’s a cul de sac so we don’t get passing random parking.

@montessorinanny I usually do but got back tonight and there’s already a car there

Can you stick a notice on the wall?

Sunny1112 · 03/05/2021 21:17

But if you have 2 and only use 1 is it really the end of the world?

@SquirtleSquad no wall... front door straight onto pavement and then bays. Have thought about sign or chalk on floor

JohnNutLips · 03/05/2021 21:23

@Sunny1112 it isn’t the end of the world no! It annoys me that other people feel entitled to park there that’s all

Packinbox · 03/05/2021 21:25

You are not being unreasonable but maybe mark it out so that it is really clear?
I gave up being generous with our spaces the day that our neighbour left a dirty disposable nappy in ours.

cardibach · 03/05/2021 21:27

If they are t numbered, surely it just means you have the right to put 2 cars in the car park, not in specific places in it? Having lived in flats with numbered spaces, they aren’t always the ones nearest your flat...

JohnNutLips · 03/05/2021 21:41

@cardibach the specific ones are on the deeds

SquirtleSquad · 03/05/2021 21:43

Do you have a communal notice board? I've seen some flats have a parking plan up on their boards with a polite note asking people to only park/let visitors park in their assigned spaces

PanamaPattie · 03/05/2021 21:48

Bollards.

SquirtleSquad · 03/05/2021 21:49

You can't always erect bollards or signage without the management company or freeholders permission so be careful about that

Undertheoldlindentree · 03/05/2021 21:52

Does the use of them block the view/light from your living room window?

billy1966 · 03/05/2021 21:59

Paint your flat number on ground.
Put a sign on your window in the corner requesting no to park there.

Similar issue for a friend of mine outside her house in a cul de sac in a very central urban area.

She rang a local clamping company and they were more than happy to clamp the car.
Leave a note on the windown of the car.

JohnNutLips · 03/05/2021 22:17

@SquirtleSquad no, but I have a front garden (to the side) maybe I’ll erect one!

OP posts:
JohnNutLips · 03/05/2021 22:18

@Undertheoldlindentree nope it doesn’t block the light
