To prefer Cava over Prosecco?

There. I said it.

I love champagne! Could drink it all day if my liver and bank account allowed, but as a substitute, I honestly do think Cava or English sparkling wine is usually so much nicer than Prosecco!

It's usually far too sweet and actually makes me feel quite sick, but everyone seems to love it....but me.

YANBU: Prosecco is massively overrated
YABU: Prosecco all the way

YANBU & YABU for me. I like Prosecco, but my true love sparkly one is Asti Blush so classy and delicious!!!

Lemonlemon88 · 01/05/2021 10:44

Sparkling wine always, prosecco is usually too sweet for me.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 01/05/2021 10:46

I enjoy both but find if I have a cheap cava it's definitely less sweet and sickly than a cheap Prosecco.

Although the headache I get the morning after two or more glasses of Prosecco is a pain like no other Confused

My absolute favourite is a nice Cremant. Nicely priced in the middle too.

BuyYourOwnBBQGlenda · 01/05/2021 10:58

Mmm cremant de Loire for me too. Prosecco has been a massive fashion and I think is now falling out of it a bit. Just seems to be the way. Everyone goes mad on something for a few years, then it becomes "too" popular and therefore intensely uncool.

DenisetheMenace · 01/05/2021 10:59

Completely agree. Prosecco is like lemonade, could easily guzzle it by the gallon. So don’t Grin

LeaveMyDamnJam · 01/05/2021 11:04

I prefer Prosecco to cava, but if not champagne, my first choice is crémant.

DazedandConcerned · 01/05/2021 11:06

Give Cremant from France a try. It’s my favourite after champagne.

8Track · 01/05/2021 11:08

Love the crisp dryness of Cava. In fact the nice morrisons chap has just brought some!

coogee · 01/05/2021 11:14

Definitely not being unreasonable. I prefer cava too. Prosecco is too sweet.

TooMuchYarn · 01/05/2021 11:14

I dont like either, but why would you be unreasonable to have a preference?!

minniemomo · 01/05/2021 11:15

Me too. A good cava is as good as champagne. Some excellent sparking wines from Chile too. My favourite tip though is look for wines from the Loire valley, cremants use the same method as champagne

LBOCS2 · 01/05/2021 11:18

We prefer a Cremant or a cava to prosecco.

I think the quality of Prosecco has diminished as it's become more popular, particularly in the last five years or so. Cremant and cava are much more consistent (and less petrol-y in a lot of cases)

sashh · 01/05/2021 11:18

I'm with you OP Naked wines' cava is as good as many champagnes. I do not get this prosecco trend at all.

lottiegarbanzo · 01/05/2021 11:20

Well of course. Cava is made by the champagne method, with a second fermentation in the bottle. Prosecco is not, it is a simpler, quickly-made alcoholic fizzy drink.

If people can't tell the difference, prosecco is perfect for them. For those who can, cava is a good, cheaper alternative to champagne.

ghostyslovesheets · 01/05/2021 11:23

Oh Yes YANBU - agree with Naked Wines Cava being lovely - I've been waiting for it to come back in stock - just got 10 bottles!

I find prosecco too sweet/light

Morrisions have a lovely one on offer right now by Campo Viejo

ItsAllAboutTheParsley · 01/05/2021 11:24

I think you are just drinking the wrong Prosecco.... can’t remember having a sweet one, we’ve always drunk quite dry varieties, I love it.
Doesn’t have to be either or though! There are good and bad examples of all grape varieties and just need to find ones you like. Have fun testing!

ghostyslovesheets · 01/05/2021 11:30

but I find cry prosecco weak and a bit sweet is what I mean - just doesn't have much punch

ghostyslovesheets · 01/05/2021 11:30

Dry! it doesn't make me cry - I'd still drink it

Lockheart · 01/05/2021 11:32

You can like whatever drink you want, why would you be unreasonable?

Titsywoo · 01/05/2021 11:33

Cava gives me terrible acid reflux so I prefer prosecco although some of them are horribly sweet now. I like some champagnes but some are way too dry for me. I love Pol Roger as it's not too heavy.

DioneTheDiabolist · 01/05/2021 11:33

YANBU OP, I've had cheap prosecco, I've had expensive prosecco and have always found them a bit boring. Give me a good cava, preferably aged in a sherry cask, any day.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 01/05/2021 11:34

Are you Anne from Motherland?!

Mapletreelane · 01/05/2021 11:34

Definitely. Prosecco is sickly sweet and has moved into the realm of nafness as people only drink it as it is popular, and not because it is tasty. A good cava or sparkling French Loire wine is so much nicer. There used to be some fab Australian sparkling pinot noir /chardonnay wines but they seem to have been crushed by the Prosecco juggernaut.

RampantIvy · 01/05/2021 11:37

Are you sure you aren't mixing up asti spumante with prosecco? I drink the extra dry and it isn't sweet at all. I find brut too dry.

blue1000 · 01/05/2021 11:39

In our house the order is:
Cremant - most of the time
Cava - only if Cremant is out of stock
Prosecco - only if given a bottle
