To not feel young anymore at 26

Beatinghearts · 26/04/2021 14:10

I’m always told I’m still young. I don’t know if it’s because my life has been chaotic that I don’t feel it.

OP posts:
AnneLovesGilbert · 26/04/2021 14:12

You are young. What do you think feeling young feels like?

CounsellorTroi · 26/04/2021 14:12

Don't be ridiculous OP. You are young and you've got your whole life ahead of you.

skirk64 · 26/04/2021 14:13

You are still young in the grand scheme of things. To an 18 year old, 26 is "old" but to normal people you are "young" until about 30.

alabaster11 · 26/04/2021 14:23
Confused
Voomster953 · 26/04/2021 14:26

You’re old to an 18 year old. You’re young to a 40 year old.

What are you hoping for from this thread?

DilemmaADay · 26/04/2021 14:26

I don't know OP, I think a lot of it depends on lifestyle. I know 2 women at work...
One was married with 2 kids at 26 and very settled, the other is 34, has just got back from a year working abroad with work, and is off backpacking with a load of old uni mates next year.
I don't know why, but I see the 34 year old as bring more young and youthful here.

ThorosBeta · 26/04/2021 14:27

I’m 43 and I still don’t really consider myself to be “old”. I probably should do!

I’d give my high teeth to be 26 again.

katy1213 · 26/04/2021 14:28

Grab it now - you'll never be younger than you are today. Cliché but true.

MimiSunshine · 26/04/2021 14:32

You know the saying “youth is wasted on the young”?

This is a great example, you don’t feel young now because you feel older than you did 10 years ago. A lot has changed since you were 16 and basically only had getting to school on time and exams to worry about.

In another ten years time you’ll again look back and realise how much youth etc you had at 26.

ParkheadParadise · 26/04/2021 14:33

You're young.
At 26 I had an 11year old dd, I thought I was old.
At 43 I have a 5-year-old dd, I'm bloody ancient.
Wish I was 26 again.

MyBabyBoyBlue · 26/04/2021 14:34

I'd give anything to be 26 again!! I remember feeling old at around 27ish and if I could go back and shake some sense into my 27 year old self, I would!!!

stackemhigh · 26/04/2021 14:34

What's your AIBU?

Too much vague-booking.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/04/2021 14:35

I'm 30 and my colleagues in their 50s all call me "young Wax" I feel young!

Popcornbetty · 26/04/2021 14:36

Sorry i took one look at that and laughed as I'm in my thirties! Believe me in 10 years time you'll look back at old pictures and think bloody hell hpw young was i then!! It hit me when i started to look in my 30's and can't pass for in my twenties anymore!

Regularsizedrudy · 26/04/2021 14:37

Yabu

Imissmoominmama · 26/04/2021 14:37

I understand- there have been times in my life where I’ve felt older, especially when I’ve been under a lot of pressure.

I’m 54 now and am going through one of my young phases- loads of energy and little stress.

Youthfulness is a feeling that waxes and wanes- it’ll come back.

stressbandit · 26/04/2021 14:37

I feel the same it's so weird I see people who are just going to uni now and things and I think fuck that was ten years ago for me. And I'm 28 this year. I get it but I can't explain why it annoys me I know I'm young but I'm not proper young anymore.
I think it's because I feel I've missed out on so much, I've never been abroad, never been on a girls night out, never been on a girls weekend. Cringe how many times I've said girls but that's how I feel 😂.

Lubiluxe · 26/04/2021 14:40

I'm 28 and consider myself a young person

Lubiluxe · 26/04/2021 14:40

You've only been an adult for 8 years!

Popcornbetty · 26/04/2021 14:40

@stressbandit so sorry you've never been abroad or on a girls weekend. Could you go in later life? It's never too late!

stressbandit · 26/04/2021 15:08

@Popcornbetty I am defo doing that soon. hopefully sometime this year would be nice.

user1491404899 · 26/04/2021 15:26

I'm 34 and I feel young!

Whanganui · 26/04/2021 15:29

Aaaaw OP you’re just a babe in arms.

stressbandit, you still have plenty time. I didn’t go abroad until I was about 40, but I’ve made up for it since.

Pedalpushers · 26/04/2021 15:32

Aged 32, putting on weight around the middle and having just found my first grey hair, I'm dreaming of being 26 again.

Brainwave89 · 26/04/2021 15:35

Interesting. So I am now in my 50s. When I got to 30, I felt it really hard. Like I was moving from where would I go out on Saturday to what colour should I paint the lounge, and I felt my best days were behind me. At 40 I did not care. I felt much more comfortable than when I was 30. At 50, I again am starting to feel a bit old and it feels like a life change is on me again. My take is that different ages hit different people in different ways. With hindsight though it is just life.... and it will all be just fine.
