To ask your BIGGEST dream in life?

PaddleBoardingMomma · 20/04/2021 19:40

One day, a few years from now, I want to be making a living fully independently and self sufficiently. Spending my days on the beach, on the water, my evenings making jewellery to sell. A quiet simple life! I don't have dreams of mega bucks or a lavish lifestyle, just enough to get by and be happy.

What's your biggest dream? Is it within reach? A pipe dream? Are you already living your dream?

My hope for this thread is to encourage people to go for what will make them happy, and offer advice on how to reach their goals if you can!

Biggest dream is to have a book published, win loads of prizes and made into a film and me bathing in cash.

Sammiesnake · 20/04/2021 19:52

To live in a beautiful chocolate box house with roses by the front door, a piano in my lounge and my own wine cellar. We live in a very beautiful village now, all the houses immediately around ours are lovely but ours is a semi with no room for the wine or piano.. can’t be bothered with the roses either. We are renovating and have a 5 year financial plan to go for our dream property. I hope we’ll achieve it!

InsanityOf2020 · 20/04/2021 19:56

I just want a lil two bed terraced house that is mine

BuyYourOwnBBQGlenda · 20/04/2021 20:00

I don't have a big dream. I would love a big dream! I like working but sometimes think about going back to uni just for pleasure and doing a liberal arts degree. I wanted to study Philosophy the first time round but was persuaded to choose Chemistry. It's hardly a wild and unattainable one though!

I have a wine cellar and a piano, so I'm living someone's dream if not my own Grin

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 20/04/2021 20:02

I aspire to win a large euro millions jackpot. Perfectly achievable Grin

I’ll even take the chance that it wrecks my life.

FindingMeno · 20/04/2021 20:03

To travel to exotic places.
I might get to do it once or twice, we'll see.

OlympicProcrastinator · 20/04/2021 20:03

To live in a small stone cottage overlooking a river or bay. It will have flowers round the outside and look like something out of a fairy tale. It will have a little fire and be all cosy in the winter. And a bench in the front garden.

When I’m not there I’ll be in a water bungalow with my DH in the Maldives or Seychelles, reminiscing about when we raised kids together and planning our next holiday after we return to aforementioned cosy cottage.

Sammiesnake · 20/04/2021 20:07

@BuyYourOwnBBQGlenda what about the roses? Grin

Shopliftersoftheworldunite · 20/04/2021 20:12

I want to see so much more of the world. That’s my dream. Just to travel and spend time in places that are different to my home. Take a few cheesy selfies, eat some local food, drink a few glasses of wine. Just to sit with a coffee and look around at somewhere new and different is one of my greatest pleasures in life.

Covid has really fucked me up. I live to travel. I work in a school setting so I try and go away every school holiday and not knowing when I will get away again is killing my mental health.

MissConductUS · 20/04/2021 20:14

I want to visit the UK in a few years when DH and I are retired and meet some Brits face to face. Smile

I've been watching Secrets of Great British Castles on Netflix, so I want to see some castles too.

1Morewineplease · 20/04/2021 20:19

A bungalow, near a quaint market town, but rural, with a flat garden that I can use a wheelbarrow in ( I can't at the moment due to bloody steps) and with an annexe for my dear mum.
Oh... and a utility room.

IDontDrinkTea · 20/04/2021 20:21

I want to be old, still married to DH and with children who want to visit me. As in they come to visit because they enjoy being here, not because they feel they have to out of duty. And I’d love grandchildren who feel the same although I’m aware that having grandchildren or not is not down to me

sessell · 20/04/2021 20:32

Seems like I am living many people's dream. Self-sufficient, with my own undemanding business, a wheelbarrow, piano and roses round the door. But I am missing my DH who died too young. If he hadn't it would be perfect. We knew how lucky we were. Still, for the future - all that plus a few more friends and travel. And also to do something worthwhile, not sure what yet, but something that makes me want to jump out of bed every morning.

BuyYourOwnBBQGlenda · 20/04/2021 20:55

@Sammiesnake lots of roses and 4.5 acres of land, half wooded. But not chocolate box cottage unfortunately! Was a self build by previous owners a few decades ago and we are getting stuck in to re-renovate.

All sounds very fancy on paper but we moved from a v. expensive area to northern Ireland and got a bit carried away.

Sammiesnake · 20/04/2021 21:13

@BuyYourOwnBBQGlenda sounds lovely Smile

@sessell sorry to hear about your husband

1Morewineplease · 20/04/2021 21:23

Yes @sessell I'm also sorry to hear about your husband.

Skyliner001 · 20/04/2021 21:26

To live happily and healthy to a decent age, I have enough money, and enough love. I don't need anything else material, but I would love to keep my health

flowerycurtain · 20/04/2021 21:27

I'll know I've achieved the pinnacle of my dreams when we have concreted our farm drive.

Hughbert · 20/04/2021 21:27

To get a mortgage before I'm too old to be eligible for a little house with a little garden.

TulipsHyacinths · 20/04/2021 21:29

I don’t even know how to have a dream.
I think I dream of feeling peaceful within my self: having days waking early, drinking tea from a cup I love, walking to work and admiring the flowers in the park on the way.
Having days where I don’t stress about what colleagues think of me or mistakes I make.
Evenings either having meals with close friends and family, or happy at home solo, listening to Radio 4 as I cook something delicious and healthy and then watching an interesting film.
Getting enough sleep. Reading a lot. Maintaining friendships. And one day travelling again.
But now...I just feel so flat and like I don’t even know what my dream might be.

HazelBite · 20/04/2021 21:29

The biggest dream is to go to University and get a degree however I am nearly 70 so its pretty unlikely.

iamthesandstorm · 20/04/2021 21:33

live on Or by a canal

inmyslippers · 20/04/2021 21:35

Work part time but live comfortably. Have a rescue dog, allotment and a lush garden. Lots of trips to Lake District

TulipsHyacinths · 20/04/2021 21:35

@HazelBite my Grandma did a degree with the Open University when she was 73! She absolutely loved it and stayed in touch with friends she met on her course for many, many years afterwards.

Please don’t think you’re too old! It enriched her life, and I’m sure it will yours too!

iamthesandstorm · 20/04/2021 21:38
