What’s going on with my body?

I’m 5 days late for my period and it’s extremely unusual for me. I’m usually very regular, every 28 days, give or take a day either side. I’m definitely not pregnant as haven’t had sex in 6 months.
I’ve got an eye twitch in my right eye that won’t go away. I feel drained and tearful.
I’ve also started to get restless legs at night, but sometimes during the day too.
I seem to have become really intolerant to alcohol. I had half a glass of wine last night and I’ve felt like death all day today since.

Is it a good idea to call my GP about all this?

How old are you?

I (obviously!) believe you that you’re not pregnant, OP. But I do wonder if it’s a hormonal thing because I’ve had a twitchy eye in both my pregnancies.

Have you been vaccinated I have heard that it can interfere with menstrual cycle

Report

Concerned2306 · 16/04/2021 13:58

Haven’t been vaccinated yet, I’m 31 and definitely not pregnant as no sex in 6 months.

I would definitely ring the GP if I was you. The majority of your symptoms would align with anaemia for a start - which is at least one thing they could test for and treat!

But basically you're feeling crappy, why wouldn't you ask a professional? Smile

My periods stopped for 4 months after I had covid. My only other symptom was fatigue. Could this be a possibility? I had a positive test in December and they have only just returned.

I understand you’re not pregnant as I think I made fairly clear Hmm I was trying to be helpful and lend some validation to your hunch that your twitchy eye and the disruption to your cycle could be connected. Because it’s a symptom I’ve had when pregnant, and is therefore I assume to do with my hormones. But anyway... all the best.

Are you stressed with anything I sometimes get horrendous twitch in my eye

I agree with this. Restless legs and twitchy eyes are symptoms I've been getting while pregnant.

OP, we're not saying you're pregnant but that it could be a hormonal problem as it's hormones that cause these in pregnancy, ie similar issues with hormones but not pregnant

@CouldItBeCake sorry I didn’t mean to come across as rude, there could certainly be a connection, especially if it’s hormonal in origin.

@Lou98 good point, I wonder what exactly though? Low progesterone?

Low magnesium can cause muscle twitches, you may also have low vitamin b12 levels.

Hi OP, are you stressed or anxious?? My eye twitches when I'm having a really bad patch of anxiety and stress ect can make time of the month play up.

Report

Concerned2306 · 16/04/2021 14:56

@Cas112 I’m quite stressed about missing a period/being late.

@Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin I’m thinking of getting some magnesium spray and seeing if that helps at all

I had eye twitches, sometimes in the corner of my mouth on the same side too, a magnesium supplement alleviated it completely.

Concerned2306 · 16/04/2021 15:01

@ManCubsMama do you recommend a spray or supplement?

I have the same symptoms as you but I am older. I think its probably hormonal-I can't stop the eye twitching. I've had it before but usually it goes away very quickly...

Concerned2306 · 16/04/2021 15:04

@jadedagain have you missed a period too?

Not sure how many mg are in a spray but it’s 300mg per day of magnesium you need.

Second (or third?) the magnesium. I felt like this at the start of the year, had bloods done including vitamin d and my vitamin d was shockingly low which seemingly had also made me calcium and magnesium deficient (they all work together). Was put on a vitamin d loading dose along with magnesium and my calcium + magnesium rectified, vitamin d is going up slowly but surely and I feel quite a lot better. Taken a few months though.Get some bloods done and push for vitamin d to be included in that as it isn’t normally.

Yes to magnesium. Supplements are fine (I don't see the pount of the sprays and they did not work for me) - lack of magnesium is implicated in the restless legs, the twitches, and the intolerance of alcohol. I use a quite cheap one from Amazon and I can drink moderately without any ill effects now and almost never have leg cramps or restless legs any more and both of these were horrendous before. I take potassium too - I find the two work together better than either alone OP. Both from Amaz. I'll post links to what I take if you're interested?

Dry skin too ( I was wondering re peri menopause as I'm 44 but clearly not the case for you)

Anxiety can cause these symptoms I have had them all.
