What’s going on with my body?

I’m 5 days late for my period and it’s extremely unusual for me. I’m usually very regular, every 28 days, give or take a day either side. I’m definitely not pregnant as haven’t had sex in 6 months.
I’ve got an eye twitch in my right eye that won’t go away. I feel drained and tearful.
I’ve also started to get restless legs at night, but sometimes during the day too.
I seem to have become really intolerant to alcohol. I had half a glass of wine last night and I’ve felt like death all day today since.

Is it a good idea to call my GP about all this?

I’ve found a well woman vitamin that has iron, magnesium and the b vitamins in. Is it worth getting them?

Buy a supermarket own version, it will be cheaper.

Fembot123 · 16/04/2021 16:43

@Concerned2306

Haven’t been vaccinated yet, I’m 31 and definitely not pregnant as no sex in 6 months.
Could you be 6 months pregnant 😌
Concerned2306 · 16/04/2021 16:56

@Fembot123 I hope not! I’ve had several heavy and clot filled (sorry tmi) periods in the past few months!

@Fembot123 Also I could feel my son moving at 6 months when I was pregnant with him.

I'm 49 and perimenopausel so my periods are busy doing their own thing anyway.
I take tesco menopause supplements, they're always on 3 for 2 offer and they do make a difference. Less brain fog and less twitchy.

tobedtoMNandfart · 16/04/2021 18:21

Visit GP & ask for blood test.

Concerned2306 · 16/04/2021 20:29

@tobedtoMNandfart what for?

OP posts:
sarahc336 · 16/04/2021 21:03

Restless legs can be a sign of low iron. Also if your run down/I'll it can affect or delay ovulation so Jayne that's why you're late, sounds like you might have some virus or something xx

ManCubsMama · 17/04/2021 07:47

@Concerned2306 I took a supplement c

EnterFunnyNameHere · 17/04/2021 08:18

Honestly OP, don't just start taking random supplements if you're genuinely feeling poorly. Go to the doctor, get some tests done, and go from there.

If you are really deficient in something most general over the counter options won't be strong enough to sort it out anyway.

What is putting you off making an appointment to ask a GP? (Genuine question, not being snarky)

GoWalkabout · 17/04/2021 08:28

I'm not an expert but I don't think the amounts in most multivits are enough to sort it.

tobedtoMNandfart · 17/04/2021 18:16

Personally if want to know your blood counts, to rule out leukaemia, and if you have any infection markers.
Then ask them to investigate thyroid and hormone levels.

Luckyelephant1 · 17/04/2021 18:29

Sounds like stress/anxiety or anaemia to me. Get some bloods done at your GP as first port of call. Have you been through anything major or stressful recently? Eg lost a loved one or changed jobs etc?

You don't need to know exactly what bloods to ask for BTW, just tell GP the symptoms and they'll decide accordingly. Full blood count at the very least.

Agree with PP there's no point randomly starting to take a supplement without knowing what's wrong first. Although taking a standard daily multivitamin won't hurt, it's unlikely to resolve whatever issues you're having.

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 17/04/2021 18:57

I’ve had all of this. It screams anaemia to me and I’m also deficient in other vitamins due to malabsorption disorder - I was your age when the twitchy eye and restless legs started and I’m extremely anaemic right now and have both. I was told to drink tonic water for the twitchy eye (the quinine helps). Get a blood test if you can. I need to take iron supplements, magnesium, b12, vit d and more but may get injections soon due to the malabsorption. Hopefully you’ll be more straightforward than me!

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 17/04/2021 19:01

I’d also agree not to supplement without knowing what you need. GP should be first port of call. I over supplemented for years and because of the malabsorption ended up deficient in some vitamins and minerals and dangerously high in others so no longer take anything without being medically advised to. The iron in multivitamins isn’t well absorbed anyway as the other contents (zinc etc) often interferes with absorption. It’s more of a marketing trick than it is actually useful to the body!

LBTM · 17/04/2021 19:06

That sounds really like I felt after a few really heavy periods. My GP did blood tests and found my iron was pretty low.

FeistySheep · 17/04/2021 19:15

Low ferritin levels are a very common cause of restless legs syndrome. Are you anaemic? Even very mildly can be enough.

Incywincyspinsters · 17/04/2021 19:18

@CouldItBeCake

I understand you’re not pregnant as I think I made fairly clear Hmm I was trying to be helpful and lend some validation to your hunch that your twitchy eye and the disruption to your cycle could be connected. Because it’s a symptom I’ve had when pregnant, and is therefore I assume to do with my hormones. But anyway... all the best.
Calm your jets. Why are you being arsey?? Confused
