Zoom job interview

Xboxstolemychildren · 15/04/2021 14:25

I had a scheduled job interview via zoom at 2PM and have been set up and ready waiting since 1.55pm as yet the interviewer hasn't started the meeting.
I've tried calling the office to see if there is an issue, but I'm not getting any answer now I'm not sure what to do. It isn't very professional is it?

That's weird. Have you emailed them too?

Xboxstolemychildren · 15/04/2021 14:31

No haven't emailed, but will do now.

That's very annoying, especially if you've taken time off to do it. I agree it doesn't come across well. Someone should have contacted you by now to explain why the interview isn't going ahead.

MeridasMum · 15/04/2021 14:48

I interviewed candidates via Teams recently and was a bit annoyed to have to wait 20 mins for the candidate to log on (I couldn't get her on the phone).

Then found later there had been a 'glitch' (my tech term for haven't got a clue) with the link and she was alone, waiting in a different ritual room.

We rescheduled but it was a bit of a let down for us all

MeridasMum · 15/04/2021 14:49

Virtual room (there were no rituals)

Xboxstolemychildren · 15/04/2021 14:50

Well I've left the meeting now as its pissed me off.
I sat up half the night preparing my portfolio and half the morning making sure my dc were settled and couldn't disturb me whilst making the presentations.

I cannot believe how unprofessional they have been. I could understand if they were 5-10 minutes behind but almost an hour without a word is unacceptable.

I would drop them a mail to say you were logged in and waiting, sometimes there are glitches and they could be saying the same thing about you

Xboxstolemychildren · 15/04/2021 14:54

I have emailed them to let them know I was waiting online, so will have to see what they say.

I agree. It may well have been a glitch or mistake and the interviewer(s) were waiting in another meeting wondering why you hadn't showed up.

Given everyone is probably WFH, I'd have emailed at 5 past 2 just to make sure they knew I was trying to attend.

PurpleSplodge · 15/04/2021 14:57

I suck at zoom and frequently get email telling me I am in the wrong meeting room. I just follow the links I am sent! I have no idea how I suck so badly at them!

I gave them until 10 past 2 and called with no response, then emailed at 2.30 to say that I had been in waiting since 1.55pm nothing back as yet.

Oh op that socks sorry

*Sucks

You will probably get an apologetic response from whoever sent you the wrong link!
HumunaHey · 15/04/2021 15:32

That's awful! I feel some people (both interviewers and interviewees) can be a bit blasé about virtual interviews. So unprofessional.

Xboxstolemychildren · 15/04/2021 15:37

I think what annoyed me most, is that I applied over a month ago but was only called on Tuesday to attend an interview so it was quite short notice and I was asked to prepare a lot of work which has taken up my time.

I'm hoping that there was a glitch and not something else.

I do think employers often forget how much prep is required for an interview.

I bet there will be a reasonable explanation and a rescheduled slot. Good luck

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 15/04/2021 19:05

That's really crap - I hope there was a reasonable explanation.

Could be worse, I once travelled 2 hours for an interview and the interviewer was off sick, and no one had bothered to look at her appointments.

Xboxstolemychildren · 15/04/2021 20:53

@Hollyhocksarenotmessy that's terrible.

I've still not received a response from my email, so I'm just going to chalk it up to experience and move on.

OP posts:
marshyindigo · 15/04/2021 21:04

Oh that's terrible, I know easily said and doesn't mitigate the time spent preparing but it's probably a blessing in disguise if that's how poorly organised they are. It's one thing to send the wrong Zoom link but as a panellist I'd be checking all messages/emails to find out what happened straight away.

HedgleyTheHedgehog · 15/04/2021 21:11

Probably not somebody you want to work for

BullOx · 16/04/2021 14:11

@Xboxstolemychildren sounds like a lucky escape. If they are this bad when showing you their best side, then imagine how poor it’d be working there.

HumunaHey · 16/04/2021 16:23

Did you hear anything back @Xboxstolemychildren?

Xboxstolemychildren · 16/04/2021 18:56

@HumunaHey No I still haven't heard anything back yet and I'm guessing I won't.

I won't be chasing them and I suppose I did get a lucky escape, if this is how they conduct themselves at the interview stage.
