AIBU to order from Ubereats?

R2221 · 13/04/2021 14:20

We usually order direct, but once in a while Ubereats sends a 50% off code so we order through them. When we go to collect, they tell us to order direct ! One even had a go at me yesterday!

I always order through uber eats. Easier to get your money back if there is an issue.

TheDuchessOfBeddington · 13/04/2021 14:53

They will be paying up to 30% to Uber eats. But obviously it makes sense for you to order via the 3rd party if you are getting 50% off. Just check though, as sometimes the prices are higher on 3rd party apps than direct.

Maybe they should do their own offers directly? Our local Indian offers 20% off booking on their website. It’s a win win for everyone.

I can understand they are frustrated if they only want Uber offers to bring in new business and not to reduce their income from regular customers but thems the breaks.

Poor form of them to have a go at you though. I would start going somewhere else if I got that attitude.

Yapplepearora · 13/04/2021 14:57

I’ve had to delete UberEats and Deliveroo as I was using them way too much and it was making me lazy.

guessmyusername · 13/04/2021 15:02

They keep sending me money off too, but the twice I have ordered an Indian takeaway, it has arrived without my dd's peshwari nan. That is all she wanted! The second time it came with the order print out and each item ticked. So uber eats where is my peshwari? The first time they issued a refund for it but the second time they declined and refused to give a reason. Fortunately I paid by PayPal and they refunded me.

StevieG55 · 13/04/2021 15:04

Same happened to me at my local takeaway. Ordered with a discount through just eat. They didn't have a go at me though just said do u know we have an app I said yes but had a discount code for just eat they were fine.

FallenSky · 13/04/2021 15:07

They can't offer a service and then get cross when people use it!

SpiderinaWingMirror · 13/04/2021 15:08

Well surely the business decides whether to offer ubereats? Confused

StillCoughingandLaughing · 13/04/2021 15:12

If you can get 50% off, what would be unreasonable about it?

Yapplepearora · 13/04/2021 15:14

They can’t have it both ways. They can’t use Uber Eats to drum up new customers but then whinge about people using Uber Eats discount codes.

roses2 · 13/04/2021 15:15

Fortunately I paid by PayPal and they refunded me.

I didn't know they accepted Paypal - thank you! I only ever order when I have a discount.

I feel bad that Uber Eats / Deliveroo take 30% but if they want people to go direct then they should offer a discount. If their price is the same of course people are going to pick the easy online option.

WorraLiberty · 13/04/2021 15:17

Yes, completely unreasonable.

Absolutely do NOT do this.

I'm so glad you thought to ask us all first or God only knows what might've happened.

Soubriquet · 13/04/2021 15:20

What’s the point in registering your business with ubereats if you don’t want people to use it? Confused

Makes no sense

I used to use a take away that you could order through justeat. They removed their business from them because it cost them money. That is their choice

Just like it’s your choice to use ubereats which is cheaper for you if they are registered with them

shivawn · 13/04/2021 15:23

I order direct unless I have a coupon code for an app. UberEats normally have higher prices.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/04/2021 15:25

Uber Eats, and Deliveroo and Just Eat have the small restaurants and takeaways over a barrel.

They use their huge marketing power to make the masses believe that going through their app is the only way to order a takeaway, so if they don't use them, they'll probably lose business. To many, if it's not in the app on their phone, it might as well not exist.

But if the takeaways do use them, they have to up their prices or give a huge chunk of their profits to the middle man.

The only people who win are the venture capitalists who finance these vultures and make millions off the hard work of the small takeaways and poor sods doing the deliveries.

Butchyrestingface · 13/04/2021 15:27

What does the food establishment say when you tell them you're simply using a 50% off code you were sent?

You missed that bit off.

merryhouse · 13/04/2021 15:36

Tell them if they don't want to pay Ubereats then they don't have to use them.

Rukaya · 13/04/2021 15:42

I've had the same...if you don't want your customers to use ubereats, don't use them. Or at the very least, offer me an incentive to order direct, giving out shite to me is not a good business model!

This is a chat forum @WorraLiberty You really should have noticed by now.

People ask questions and raise discussion points. If you don’t like them, swerve the thread.

mooonstone · 13/04/2021 15:44

One even had a go at me yesterday!

How audacious to have a go at a customer because they ordered through Uber eats. Terrible customer service - don’t go back there. Surely having customers via Uber eats is better than having loyal customers boycott you due to shitty staff

SchrodingersImmigrant · 13/04/2021 15:47

Duchess and Barbara are absolutely right.

And yes. The business doesn't have to be on it. But with the amount of people on it and not being willing to order direct, there would be no business. No one googles loval takeaways anymore. If people search they search through these 3 sites and often end up ordering there.
And even if you google "x local takeaway" you atill get them 3 and then some odd-ish pages. That's it. They took over.

Did they really "have a go" though? Or did they just again direct ed you to their own site...

Crispina · 13/04/2021 17:15

I'll try and order direct I future. I thought they'd just be paying for the delivery service for their own convenience. The restaurant we ordered from yesterday only delivers via Uber, just eat or deliveroo though

SchrodingersImmigrant · 13/04/2021 18:41

They may not have their own premises or drivers.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 13/04/2021 18:42

Clicked too early.
I know of 2 on these apps who are based in someo else's kitchen. Business within business. Thing.
