To be annoyed when threads disappear

IzzieStevens · 12/04/2021 21:42

Clearly I need to get out more (lockdown permitting) but it’s so frustrating when you’re halfway through reading a really interesting thread and then it’s suddenly deleted.

I have very little going on these days and I get overly invested in other peoples dramas. It’s happened loads recently where I’ll be on page 3 of a 7 page thread and then poof, it’s gone.

Lighthearted, I promise Grin

Yes! Makes me feel stupid for bothering to think and reply.

1Morewineplease · 12/04/2021 21:45

A couple of deleted threads recently were particularly interesting but, yeah... poof and no more.

VegCheeseandCrackers · 12/04/2021 21:46

And they're always deleted right when the drama starts to heat up! Lol
I think in all honesty people put things on AIBU and quite frankly aren't prepared to be told they're unreasonable!

IzzieStevens · 12/04/2021 21:48

Yes! I sometimes feel it should be renamed “I know I’m being unreasonable but I’d like you to take my side and tell me I’m not”.

OP posts:
Hippywannabe · 12/04/2021 21:50

I have mine set to show all posts so at least when I start reading one, I can get to the end of what has been posted!

BrumBoo · 12/04/2021 21:52

They generally only delete trolls and PBPs. Sometimes they delete threads as the op is getting a real shit time of it, or because people are being racists or ablist. Mostly it's to put a stop to goady behaviour though, no one needs the site over filled with that crap because a few posters treat this place like their own personal soap opera.

dottiedaisee · 12/04/2021 21:53

Yes I was watching the post today about a lady 29 weeks and high risk pre eclampsia but very reluctant to be induced...quite worried about her ...now can’t find it !

dottiedaisee · 12/04/2021 21:53

Sorry 39 weeks

BIWI · 12/04/2021 21:54

If they disappear it's because they're not genuine. Or they're offensive. Or both!

EarringsandLipstick · 12/04/2021 22:07

That's still there:

Pressure to induce due to high blood pressure - so angry www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/4217600-Pressure-to-induce-due-to-high-blood-pressure-so-angry

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 12/04/2021 22:25

Yes. MN is very holey right now. There are certain topics which seem to have a trigger permanently aimed at them, and those threads are usually peppered with deletions too.

Zancah · 12/04/2021 22:28

I do not support this new regime of completely disappearing threads instead of keeping them in situ with deletion messages. It's very annoying!

BIWI · 12/04/2021 22:30

It's not a new thing @Zancah

Zancah · 12/04/2021 22:32

But they seem to be doing it with all of the threads that are being deleted at the moment. Unless I've actually been a reporter of a thread and get the email, they just disappear.

BIWI · 13/04/2021 09:26

Yes - they disappear if they've been started by a troll or PBP (previously banned poster). There are a lot of them around at the moment!

Individual posts get deleted when they've been reported/determined to have breached Talk Guidelines - but this wouldn't mean that the whole thread is deleted.

bruffin · 13/04/2021 09:30

@Zancah

I can see the deletion messages on threads i am on or watching
Tal45 · 13/04/2021 09:37

Totally pisses me off - and so often I've just spent ages writing a long post in reply and I try to post it and nothing happens......because the whole bloody thread 'is being taken a look at'. Bloody look at it without taking the whole thing down FFS. There was one the other day that I couldn't even understand how it could be contentious but apparently they'd had 'lots of reports'. It seems to me if people disagree with what others are saying they all just report it and it ends up being taken down.

BIWI · 13/04/2021 09:37

Yes, @bruffin is right. You'll only see the deletion message if you've either posted on that thread or you've added it to your list of Threads I'm Watching

Eileen101 · 13/04/2021 09:44

YANBU, some are deleted as they get pretty good! I'm gutted when I'm halfway through a good thread and the deletion messages comes up. Like one the other day, an OP convinced that her 3.5 year old was determined not to learn as her daughter was not interested in the quiz on why snow melts Grin

TrickorTreacle · 13/04/2021 10:31

Have anyone seen that film with Syvester Stallone called the Demolition Man? It's set a few years on from now, and nothing is allowed to be offensive. That's exactly where we're heading - MN and outside MN.

Blankspace101 · 13/04/2021 10:36

I’m shocked about the amount of stuff that gets deleted from MN. I don’t spend much time online but I’ve genuinely never came across it. I can only assume it’s to protect the reputation of MN as we’ve all seen people being piled on in the past.

EarringsandLipstick · 13/04/2021 10:38

@Zancah

I think I know what you mean Zancah

You mean the thread actually disappears, you don't see the deletion messages. This happens to me on the app.

When I log in to the website, I can then see them.

EarringsandLipstick · 13/04/2021 10:39

@BIWI

Yes, *@bruffin* is right. You'll only see the deletion message if you've either posted on that thread or you've added it to your list of Threads I'm Watching
But not on the app (at least for me) in the last while, unless you're actually on the thread at the time of deletion.

I don't think it"s about reputation as much as it being against the rules to make stuff or post in a libellous way or anything else that might get the site into legal trouble

Unless you've posted on a thread you won't see the deletion message which is why posters put little comments if they think it mighty disappear, maybe test that out @Zancah

EarringsandLipstick · 13/04/2021 10:42

Do you mean on other forums?

I don't think it's too surprising that threads are deleted. It's a busy site, and of the threads posted, a certain amount will be by trolls, PBPs, aren't helpful to the OP or breach site guidelines in some way.

I think it's good MN delete threads (and posts) even if I mightn't always agree with it!
