Anyone else almost feel they’ve forgotten how to host?

Planning bbq this weekend for friends with a toddler (we have one too)
Am planning nice burgers (bit special ones from the butcher) with salad and homemade wedges I’m thinking? What else would you include at a bbq? Starters/chips and dips, cake for dessert? I feel like it’s been sooo long and need ideas to make it special

You include whatever you fancy and can actually finish😁

We throw in some wings, just few, with the burgers, salad and wedges like you. And then make really nice toppings (caramelised onion with sumac and pomegranate molasses is awesome) for the burgers. That's it really. No need to go overboard. We don't have sweet tooth so not really dessert people.

I'd get some sausages too, might go down better with young kids than burgers.

Another vote for hot dogs!

Depends on appetites and whether you think the food would get wasted. We usually do burgers in buns, a few sausages, maybe a few chicken drumsticks, salad, small jacket potatoes (in oven) and salad.

If everyone likes potato salad I would consider doing that instead of wedges so everything can be made in advance and you’re only concentrating on the bbq.

Bbq halloumi is always a winner.. maybe on skewers with peppers, or just on its own.

This is fab - throw in a tray of legs and oven cook for 30/40 mins. Then finish briefly on the bbq to crisp the skin.

Sausages for hot dogs!
I like grilled veg like peppers and corgettes on the BBQ.
Crisps & Dips (no double dipping though for Covid).

Wedges/ chips, salad and cake would be good.
You don't want too much traipsing in and out, or food that will get ruined by going cold.

Keep it simple, it'll just be good to have company again.

I’d definitely stick a couple of packs of sausages on - not expensive, everyone likes them (including toddlers) and if you don’t eat them at the BBQ you’ve got sausage sandwiches for breakfast the next day! But I’d hate to feel I didn’t have enough food. I might also get a quiche or something that’ll do for lunches in the week if it doesn’t get eaten.

I'd do either chicken (marinated in something) or sausages, potato salad, something individual like little brownies or small cakes for dessert. Lots of crisps and snacks in case we get hungry later on. Some friends brought doughnuts to our bbq last year and these were well appreciated.

I never do fancy toppings for burgers, they never get used! Just salad and sauce

Wings!!! Nice ones - go to a farm shop if you can. They should still be cheap. Also ribs.... :O

We would have:

Crisps and dips
Burgers with rolls and cheese
Sausages for hotdogs
Steak or marinated pork loin steaks
Chicken and veg kebabs
Potato, pasta and green salads
Possibly corn on the cob
If there were any vegetarians/vegans would obviously include veggie things too but there’s none in our frequent acquaintance.
Cake or cheesecake for pudding

Tomato and chorizo salad, always a winner.

Good sausages, bits of steak, marinated chicken portions (partially cooked before going on barbecue), lamb chops. Vegetarian stuff on skewers :-). It depends what you can afford and who is coming.

Lots of salad, French bread, cheese .

Strawberries and raspberries are nice with cream.

You are making me hungry! Ages since I went to a barbecue and I love them.
