Is this a boring gift choice?

It's my friends 30th birthday next week.
She is notoriously difficult to buy for.
She has booked a hair apt for may and she never ever gets her hair done as it's quite expensive.
I had the idea of getting her a gift card for £40 for her birthday.
Or is this a boring gift?
I don't have a clue what else to get her
I was thinking perfume but she probably already has lots of different scents.

Aibu to go for the boring gift card present?
I know it's not very imaginative.

Sounds perfect.

Alreadyinmypyjamas · 06/04/2021 15:07

I'd be happy with that!!

Chickychoccyegg · 06/04/2021 15:28

Thats a lovely gift, not boring at all

Warrickdaviesasplates · 06/04/2021 16:01

That's what my brother got me for my 30th! I was thrilled as it made such a nice change to have something just for myself that I probably would have put off otherwise.

Great gift idea in my book!

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 06/04/2021 16:05

No that sounds like a nice gift

Shufflebumnessie · 06/04/2021 16:06

I'd be delighted with that!

Concestor · 06/04/2021 19:37

Honestly for a special birthday is be disappointed with a gift card. I find them devoid of thought. Surely you can think of something she would like and enjoy?

What are her interests? Could you do an experience with her like take her to lunch or the theatre when we are allowed? (Do a card telling her what the future year is to give her on the day.)

Or a lovely piece of jewelry she can treasure as her 30th gift from you? A bag?

I'm sure we can help you come up with something.

Flappityflippers1 · 06/04/2021 19:39

A gift card toward getting my hair done would be very appreciated here!

Does she like beauty treatments/massages? You could possibly book her a treatment?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 06/04/2021 19:41

I'd be delighted! Love getting my hair done but hate the bill at the end of the appointment!

CroutonsAvatar · 06/04/2021 19:42

That’s honestly really thoughtful! And at least something she’d use! Not boring at all. Practical and shows you listen and care. Smile

milinhas · 06/04/2021 19:43

I’d like that - does her salon do other treatments too? If so you could give it as “here’s a bonus manicure / massage / hair mask treatment to add to your hair appt” to make it more of its own thing?

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 06/04/2021 19:46

I think that sounds great.
Is the hair appointment on or very close to her birthday? Could you arrange for a glass of champagne while she has her hair done?

nellywelly34 · 06/04/2021 19:48

Such a great idea and it's not really like a gift card from a shop where she will have to go and choose what she wants you are buying her money towards a haircut and some 'me' time! that's a lovely gift.

belle002 · 06/04/2021 19:51

I think calling salon and arranging champagne and an extra special treatment for hair that she’s not expecting would be a sweet idea, if her hair booking is around her birthday? Then you have the surprise element and it feels more special.

Spied · 06/04/2021 19:52

I'd love that.

katy1213 · 06/04/2021 19:53

I'd much sooner that than something 'imaginative.'

PinkBuffalo · 06/04/2021 19:55

That sounds great (I say that as a hard to buy for person 🙂)

AmelieTaylor · 06/04/2021 19:57

I'm not one to talk really, as I'm spectacularly dreadful at present giving

However, I feel she's already chosen to spend the money getting her hair done, so I'd choose a different 'treat'

Would she enjoy doing something with you like afternoon tea/lunch/river cruise with champagne/ or a different treatment like getting her nails done?

Hagqueen · 06/04/2021 19:58

I’d love it!

Honestly, It does depend on your friend. I wouldn’t want a trinket or nic nak, I prefer to not add clutter to my home and really am very picky when it comes to personal style.

I’d rather a practical gift that I’d actually use!

Moonface123 · 06/04/2021 20:01

I would be really happy with this. There is nothing worse than being given something you don't like,.it don't have any use for.

CheshireDing · 06/04/2021 20:06

Sounds great to me, my mum does this sometimes for my birthday.

I would MUCH rather this then something bought for the sake of it then then just clogs up my house.

Great gift I say

Aprilx · 06/04/2021 20:16

I would be be underwhelmed to get a voucher for a hair appointment that I had already made for myself and so had already budgeted for. A voucher for or towards a spa treatment perhaps somewhere I had never been would show a little more thought for me.
