Anybody else's Home Bargains awful for queing?

My local Home Bargains always have around 2 out of 6 tills open. They, for sone reason, wait until there is a que all the way down both aisles until they open another till.
Also covid wise: it's hard to socially distance as they have long ques going down the aisle so you're more than likely going to be in someone's way of reaching for an item they want and if you try to step out of the way, you're close to someone else.

Are all Home Bargains like this?

From experience of a few different shops miles apart, this is the norm.

I love a Home Bargains shite shop!

APurpleSquirrel · 01/04/2021 12:54

This is my experience in most large stores tbh - HB, B&M, The Range, Sainsbury's, Tesco etc etc - if there are queues, they snake down the aisles. Big supermarkets handle it better just because in many you can scan & go so not everyone is queuing at a till to pay. The smallest ones that don't offer this will have big queues especially whilst most other shops are closed.

GladysTheGroovyMule · 01/04/2021 12:54

Most discount stores are like that- it means less staff so minimising costs and keeping prices down. Iceland food warehouse is the absolute worst for it though in my experience.

Woodlandbelle · 01/04/2021 12:57

Yes. The worst queue I have seen in a whole. But it's totally worth it. Love Home Bargains Grin

Bluebird2021 · 01/04/2021 12:57

so if the tills cant' all be open due to distance between them....staff safety as well as customers....what do you suggest they do?

short staffed due to colleagues...cev shielding...isolating....got covid....off with other illness (stress?) or bad reaction to vaccine....can't just magic up more staff

staff needed on shop floor to unload the constant deliveries to keep up with customer demand....(NOBODY is going out for just the ESSENTIALS Boris requested)

shop should be limiting numbers.....customers should be made to queue outside to keep staff safe inside

Dejamd · 01/04/2021 13:31

@Bluebird2021 it's not that the till can't open because at some point they do open the other tills but only when the two ques are down the aisles,
And they were like this pre-covid

OP posts:
Dejamd · 01/04/2021 13:32

@Woodlandbelle i do love home bargains but even pre-covid the queing was frustrating Grin

@Bluebird2021 you can't really police what is 'essential'

Our nearest one does this too, 8 tills but usually only 1 or 2 open. They've also changed all the tills to those short ones like aldi/lidl.

OldEvilOwl · 01/04/2021 14:18

No ours are quite quick to open extra tills when needed. I think I've only ever waited behind 1 or 2 people before getting to the till. Love home bargains

ToffeeNotCoffee · 01/04/2021 14:24

Home Bargains is so bad it's good !

I had to correct myself because I thought you meant B&M. I have to remind myself they are different shops.

I bet their trade will do right down when the charity shops open again.

Dejamd · 01/04/2021 14:59

@ToffeeNotCoffee I do love Home Bargains Grin Always spend more than I need Grin

ToffeeNotCoffee · 01/04/2021 15:19

Yep.

It's, 'I'll just have' or 'I'd better get' or 'that's a good offer'

Strangekindofwoman · 01/04/2021 15:26

Ours is pretty good. The queues are never that long tbh.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 01/04/2021 15:30

Ours is great it's the B&M next door thats crap. one till open and a long line. We avoid it at all costs.

Flowers24 · 01/04/2021 16:02

Dont care love HB!!

SpacePotato · 01/04/2021 16:08

Our local town centre one is shit because it's so small and cramped.

Large out of of town one is fine.

B+M is no different to before covid. Always busy, queues, no one distancing at all.

shop should be limiting numbers.....customers should be made to queue outside to keep staff safe inside

I agree. Once shops reopen on 12th no one will give a shit.

Bluebird2021 · 01/04/2021 16:11
@Bluebird2021 you can't really police what is 'essential'
i don't

but you wouldn't have the problem of long queues if it was shopping for essentials only. closing other shops has squashed everyone into only a few shops...so queues will always happen. if i go to any shop right now i expect queues

and they will be short staffed

42andcounting · 01/04/2021 16:20

Yes, horrific, and the two main tills are lined up to queue down the loo roll and cleaning aisles. Seems to have a higher proportion of maskless customers than anywhere else, and more people mooching. I've only been in twice in the last nine months, and I'm like a 1990's episode of supermarket sweep Grin List written in the right order, swoop, grab, chuck essentials in trolley, get gone. I miss having a leisurely mooch at all the tat, but it holds much less appeal these days Confused

19lottie82 · 01/04/2021 16:23

I was in my local B and M this morning and there were only 2 tills open and each queue was at least 8 people deep. I saw a customer ask a staff member walking past if they could open another till and they said no! I was only in for a couple of things so I put my basket down and left.

FlyingBurrito · 01/04/2021 16:25

Your Home Bargains must be very different to my local ones.

Why would charity shops have an effect on their sales?

I can't think of any cross over items, maybe a few toys but they don't sell toiletries, cleaning products, home wares, food, alcohol. Are you sure you're thinking of the right shop?

The queues in my nearest one do get quite long at peak times but no worse than other shops

Bluebird2021 · 01/04/2021 16:27

i too wondered about the charity shop comment

Hailtomyteeth · 01/04/2021 16:30

B&M is fine by me, queues are well organised. I'd like them to re-stock on the black disposable masks, though.

Hailtomyteeth · 01/04/2021 16:30

lol. Do I mean Home Bargains? Why can't I tell the difference????

STARmyarse · 01/04/2021 16:32

Yessss ours is terrible.
Also people queue down the aisles but the tills aren’t quite in line with the aisles so almost two tills for each queue but you can’t see what the situation is in the next aisle because they’re all down the aisle.
