I have name changed. I think I might actually be going mad. I haven't told anyone this as I know they would fall about laughing but I am considering buying a baby doll. I'm 52, menopausal, my DC have grown up but have been here through lockdown, they have all got professional careers and aren't interested in having kids yet. I'm not lonely but have had a bit of a shit year as I've worked on a Covid ward throughout lockdown.
I so want to hold and cuddle a baby. I've taken to knitting baby clothes to give to the SCBU. I have a very spoilt dog and cat that are cuddled to bits. I have a lovely DH.
I don't know WTF is up with me.

Its not going to hurt anyone surely?

My rule is if it causes no harm to you or others and where apt. Cosent is involved go for it!

Redcherries · 31/03/2021 19:24

Buy one. No one should not do something that would make them happy if it has no hurt or effect on anyone else. Do it x (I don’t care we don’t do x on here)

Purplestorm83 · 31/03/2021 19:39

Could you register as a childminder or work as an assistant in a nursery baby room

Yorkiecurls · 31/03/2021 19:57

Thanks guys, I would love to be a childminder but DH is retiring soon and I dont think he would want a house full of kids as he has been a teacher his whole life.
Glad to know you dont think I'm odd. Smile

Can you volunteer to rock sick babies at the hospital? They do that here, although I don't know how covid has affected it.

littlepattilou · 31/03/2021 19:59

Not going to hurt anyone! And it sounds cute. Go for it. Smile

Soubriquet · 31/03/2021 20:00

Go for it

I really want one of the reborn dolls but one that looks very realistic

Problem is, they cost north of £1000 and I’m not prepared to pay that Sad

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 31/03/2021 20:03

Go for it.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 31/03/2021 20:06

What you do in your own home is up to you. Go for it if it will make you happy. What's the difference between that and sleeping with a cuddly toy?

Tal45 · 31/03/2021 20:10

Whatever makes you happy, it's not hurting anyone else x

Hazyjinty · 31/03/2021 20:10

S111n20 · 31/03/2021 20:16

XenoBitch · 31/03/2021 20:16

I am in my 40s and buy action figures. If it brings you joy, and is not illegal, go for it :)
Enjoy your doll. There are many doll makers out there that would be happy to discuss your requirements with them.

Walesrecommendations · 31/03/2021 20:21

I bought some Sylvanian families the other day ostensibly for my 7 month old daughter when she's older but really they're for me Do what makes you happy!

nonevernotever · 31/03/2021 20:21

Go for it. I'm your age, and the sasha doll I had as a child now has a baby sister and far more clothes than she ever did before. I read something somewhere with a doll fan saying that she had half a dozen cover stories depending on who she was talking to. For people interested in craft she played up the challenge involved in making dolls clothes etc. For others she played up the creative aspect of story telling and so on. Really, she just liked playing with dolls

Anon778833 · 31/03/2021 20:24

I love dolls. I have AS and dolls are one of my special interests. I have a particular love of American girl dolls.

Progress2019 · 31/03/2021 20:25

BakedTattie · 31/03/2021 20:49

Would you consider babysitting? Our babysitter is in her late 60’s and she’s amazing. She just loves children and being around children. Which suits us!

Toddlerteaplease · 31/03/2021 20:50

I've got loads of cabbage patch kids. I'm 39!

maddiemookins16mum · 31/03/2021 20:51

I’m 56, I’ve looked at these dolls too (but kept it to myself).
I haven’t had the simple pleasure of holding a tiny baby for a long, long time. I miss it.
