Are ring doorbells worth the money?

Hello lovely mumsnetters! Our doorbell was lying on our doorstep this morning after the really windy weather during the night & dh says its full of rainwater & broken. We are thinking of getting a ring doorbell to replace it, & I wanted to ask those of you with experience of them if they're any good please?

100% yes.

Hillsandthrills · 28/03/2021 17:22

Yes they are worth every penny. The app is great and it’s good to have peace of mind when you’re not at joke.

Newnormal99 · 28/03/2021 17:27

Really like mine. It's the pro so has pre record so if this something triggers but goes you can see. I work 2 floors up so it's great for telling delivery drivers I'm on my way down! Or telling my daughter to let herself in. I did that from sainsburys today!

Oldbird69 · 28/03/2021 17:31

Thanks for the replies, sounds like we'll be getting one Smile

Yes, with bells on!

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 28/03/2021 17:35

Yes, we got one last year, the 3+ and bought the chime pro to go with it. Its great. Charge lasts a couple of weeks depending on usage. However I'm thinking of getting a spare battery too so one will always be charged.
You do get 30 days free for the video playback but after that it's 24.99 a year if you want to be able to view your videos or £80 I think if you have more than one device. We also have an outdoor camera so we pay the higher amount.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 28/03/2021 17:39

We have one on vulnerable relative's door. Brilliant at keeping dodgy doorstep folk away

LadyCatStark · 28/03/2021 17:39

Yes definitely although you’ll get a bit obsessed with watching it 😂.

orpah · 28/03/2021 17:42

I don’t see the point in it but DH loves it

Newnormal99 · 28/03/2021 18:04

Oh yes definitely a spare battery as pp said. It takes hours to charge so much easier to keep one pre charged and swap it over

DarlingWithoutYou · 28/03/2021 18:15

Yep! And get the spare battery.

Berthatydfil · 28/03/2021 18:21

I have the eufy it’s great

MadisonAvenue · 28/03/2021 18:23

Yes, we’d be lost without ours.
We have a Ring camera trained on our drive and back garden too for extra peace of mind.

Am I the only person who thinks they're crap? I know I'm not as I've read all the same problems I have with it on ring forums. Basically mine is wireless which was my first mistake because thieves use WiFi jammers round here which has meant my car has been broken into twice and it didn't record anything. The picture over night when it gets cold is basically not viewable as it completely frosts over. On a busy road like mine the battery lasts less than a week. And lastly when someone rings and you try and answer on the app it takes so long to load that they've gone already. Rings answer to this is for the user to download the 'rapid ring' app which is just as slow to load as the full app. I wish I'd never bothered getting one and I cant understand why everyone raves about them!

GooodMythicalMorning · 28/03/2021 18:33

I have a Eufy doorbell its fab, and you have the home 2 inside your house so no yearly payment for storage of your data.

Blublubblubbing · 28/03/2021 18:33

Also you can't change the battery on mine it is rechargeable but you can't take it out

MaliceOrgan · 28/03/2021 18:36

Does anyone else have a long lag/delay between the doorbell being pressed/rung and the alert coming through? Sometimes I have answer the door before the proper alert goes off.

TokyoSushi · 28/03/2021 18:38

Yep definitely worth it, we love ours and have none of the problems mentioned!

Bexily · 28/03/2021 18:38

No we found it to be rubbish as well. Had it two weeks, boxed it back up and sent it back. It took 2 mins from someone ringing the doorbell to alerting us. Wouldn't buy another.
VeganVeal · 28/03/2021 18:42

Got mine free with BT. Its ok, dont really look at it much, but good to see if DH has popped out for a crafty fag. Have mine wired to a transformer so doent need charging, otherwise it'd be a pain.
Surprising how many people still knock the door rather than using the bell though
7/10 for me

VeganVeal · 28/03/2021 18:43

ps have it connected to Alex so she announces a visitor, which is good if we're in the west wing

VeganVeal · 28/03/2021 18:43

Alex is the butler

KatherineJaneway · 28/03/2021 18:46

I think so. It allows you to see who is at the door and talk to them if needs be. Helpful I'd you need to see who has been on your doorstep.

However I would suggest you buy a second battery. Mine takes hours to charge so I have a back up battery to use.

Florin · 28/03/2021 18:47

We have a camera at the door which is connected to our phone and alerts us for £20 something I don’t really understand why you would pay for ring?

Ratched · 28/03/2021 18:47

I have one, wouldn't bother again.
Very expensive doorbell. By the time anything pings up on my phone, the caller has left, or is leaving.
By the time Alexa announces soemone at the door, they are halgway down the hall, coat off and drink in hand ( not really, but you know what I mean).
I was so excited getting one, but meh.
