To think that women should help other women when they are attacked by men ?by men

Awful scenes from Portsmouth at a rally to violence to women. Men verbally and physically attacked women for holding a banner saying woman, adult human Female. They were egged on by the crowd including women. Rather reminiscent of witch hunts of the past. At such a vigil, what was going on and why did women not stand up for others or to stop the men?

Which demo was this?

Also, I’m not sure you can criticise other women...

why did women not stand up for others or to stop the men

ButIcantsitonleather · 28/03/2021 03:24

I may have misunderstood your post there. Are you criticising the women in the mob for not preventing men from attacking the women in the demo? Either way, blame the men who are the ones attacking. In all senses.

Ineedcoffee2021 · 28/03/2021 04:05

So women should risk being attacked themselves?
Stuff that
If you attend any kind of public rally, its at your own risk and you shouldnt expect others to risk themselves for you, male or female

Cokie3 · 28/03/2021 04:20

YANBU I don't understand the responses here. Women should be defending women. What is so hard to understand about that? Women march as a collective to support each other. It makes no sense to say we shouldn't expect other women to come to our aid. What is the point in marching then, if your view is 'I'm all right, fuck you'?

Cokie3 · 28/03/2021 04:21

All for one, one for all. That is the entire point of a pro-women's march.

NiceGerbil · 28/03/2021 04:26

Do you have a link?

Without context it's hard to say.

You're on AIBU so maybe you want yes no based on OP.

But if eg it was 20 women from a Jujitsu club who were 30 years younger than me... No. I'd keep a wary eye.

Need link vid pls

NiceGerbil · 28/03/2021 04:28

This appears to be about a specific thing.

And no I wouldn't expect a 90 yo woman to steam in.

Too vague. More specifics.

NiceGerbil · 28/03/2021 04:29

I've googled Portsmouth women's march.

Nothing from today.

Links pls

Shaggervalley · 28/03/2021 04:33

I have commented on this on the post on FWR ,OP ,if you are interested . I'm absolutely disgusted with what happened today and wish I had been there to defend these women. There was definitely women goading men on to attack these women which is not feminism in any shape or form and I wish they got this through their peasized man pleasing skulls. If you know the women who were attacked at Portsmouth RTS ,please tell them ,I'm really sad and disgusted at what happened to them .

NiceGerbil · 28/03/2021 04:46

Can't see the FWR thread what's it called?

Shaggervalley · 28/03/2021 04:48

It's on the Reclaim the Streets has been captured thread . Footage of what happened near the end .

NiceGerbil · 28/03/2021 04:50

I'll have a look thanks

NiceGerbil · 28/03/2021 04:55

Clicked a couple of Twitter links can't see anything?

Can you post here pls?

stopchewingeverything · 28/03/2021 06:14

Please stop placing the blame on women here for failing to stop the men attacking women. All blame lies firmly with the ones doing the attacking...men.

Shaggervalley · 28/03/2021 06:22

Thecatonthemat · 28/03/2021 10:45

I posted late . In no way was I not blaming the men that attacked the women, but was horrified by the women giving their support to the men. Thanks for putting up the link Shaggervalley there is no excuse for male violence of course. No I don’t know these women that were attacked, but if this is Reclaim the Streets in action we need to be very wary..

Chanjer · 28/03/2021 10:58

Men shouldn't be attacking women but it seems a stretch that women aggressively opposed to the message on their banner are going to jump in to protect the people flying the banner

Thecatonthemat · 28/03/2021 12:27

So they would rather support men being violent to women than admit that the banner is stating the truth. Really?

OP posts:
Thingsdogetbetter · 28/03/2021 12:34

The 'truth' of the banner is not relevant. You confusing two issues.
Anyone, male or female should defend a woman whether they agreed with the 'truth' of the banner or not.

Chanjer · 28/03/2021 12:47

Really?

Well, clearly

Not saying I approve at all. People shouldn't be attacked for making a statement. Just saying that it's unlikely you'll find allies in the people that are already doing a hard disagree with your stance

This is a written account by a woman who was there. It sounds like an absolute witch hunt. There is no excuse .

Thecatonthemat · 29/03/2021 00:58

Yes Mif4 you may well be right. But why can’t we peacefully protest about male violence to women without being shut down? When are we going to see men standing up and saying...yes I did that and my friends did that?

You do realise this is hardly a feminist statement? “Their pea sized man pleasing skulls” is a disgusting thing to say about women.
ContentsMayBeHot · 29/03/2021 03:39

From what I can tell from that firsthand account you posted, they attended a vigil that was extremely clear it was trans inclusive, then unfurled a banner in protest of speakers saying TWAW, then were heckled by the crowd and removed from the event.

I assume this is broadly what they expected would happen when they started protesting.

This thread seems deceitful.
